3 likesThe Hermie Issue bugs me alot Reaf, see the thing is these plants were all done in a batch : From this batch of plants 2 Hermied on me. 1 x Killing Fields was a freak from a seedling, just kept it going to see what happens. Tossed it once it sexed herm. The one Herijuana which Hermied, was a different type of herm. Agree with you there, that was a light stress hermie. Was also the smallest plant from this group of seed started together in pics above. Also first to enter flowering from group. Anaesthesia plants entered flowering with the heri or soon after, hoping none of those 3 turn on me!!!! I must monitor them closely, be on guard for nanners! That KF plant had two open sacks when I discovered it BUT! Seeded bud not the end of the world, the seeds will be used to make smoothies!!! From the above batch that started together these 2 grew huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Killing Fields Sannies Jack

3 likesThanks Chronic, those are some nice compliments to hear but be careful bro, I'm still learning too!! lol. I will try and give you some tips from what I think I've learned. Of course the Powderfeed has been an incredible base and I know it can be used with amazing results on its own, but I use some additives as well and don't always keep it simple. I like to experiment and I feel there are a few things you can't put into one powder, and I like to show that you can not only keep it simple, but play a little and get great results. BUT without the PF as a base, the additives wouldn't work like they do. That said, I'm saving my first only Powderfeed grow for the next contest. If you are going to follow data and methods from anything, I'd say the best plant I did so far was the Big Bang auto from this grow. I made some changes based on mistakes I thought I'd been making in the past and I think the results show they worked. One change was soaking the seeds in r/o water plus only a tiny bit of Cal-Mag Plus @ 105 ppm and pH'd to 5.9, in the past I used 290 ppm bottled mineral water. Theory is that the seeds have everything they need inside them for the first couple weeks of life and soaking them in water with too high of an EC or ppms can disrupt the hormones and natural germination process, also the r/o water is definitely clean, and I add just a tiny bit of Cal Mag plus so it's not totally dead, plus it allows me to read the pH and fix that as well. I think by giving too high ppm water at the start hinders root growth because if the food is there already why grow a ton of roots to look for it? The amount of roots poking out everywhere from the Big Bang auto were enough for me to test the theory further and I'm waiting to see how the 5 seeds I planted 48 hrs ago turn out with the same method. Another reason I think for the yields is the root mass that develops in the bigger pots. To help with this I use an airy medium mixture (50/50 - Pro Mix High Porosity soil-less peat mix/Grodan rock wool Grow Chunks) with clay pellets on the bottom for drainage (plus lots of extra holes drilled for drainage) that really allows easy root penetration and the roots form colonies around the rockwool chunks. When I transplant I use a micorrhizae root powder which really helps grow a healthy root zone. Then the clay pebbles on the top help to prevent the medium from getting compacted when watering plus nice tiny feeder roots will develop just below the pebbles, and also they help keep nute water from splashing up onto the leaves. The bigger pots should help with the yield for sure, it will be a good experiment to see if you can beat the 10 plants with the 4 in the bigger pots. About the inlet fan, it was just last grow that I installed it, before that I did the same as you and opened the vents to allow passive intake and things were going ok I think. But even with the small 4 inch fan I think it definitely helps with air exchange and providing fresh air for the plants. I lay hose in an 'S' shape and have slits cut in it so that the air is diffused and distributed throughout the canopy and not just pumped in one end and sucked back out the top. Ya I didn't win the cup lol..but I appreciate your vote! I have a few ideas as to how I can maybe/hopefully place better next cup, I'm still learning like I said and I'm very appreciative of 7th. Ghost had an awesome grow as well and it's got to be tough to decide with 2 sites, lots of grows, and many aspects to be considered, I'm happy for him and if Gonzo's pics are any indication he is gonna have a blast! Anyways bro, thanks for the interest, I've blabbed on enough but hope I maybe gave some insight, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask! Good luck with your 4 ladies and let me know how they turn out Peace

3 likesI'm glad you enjoyed the pics of the NLA Dust. I think I should take more shots in the sunlight like that, it was getting really warm though so I moved the photo session to the kitchen stove light, which is so much less natural. In a few months once the buds have cured even more and changed enough to be worth more pictures I will take a few new ones, all in natural sunlight this time. I'm REALLY wanting a new camera, but the ones I want are too expensive and to spend money on myself with Christmas coming would be selfish Thanks for the kind words bro and for the luck! Thanks S.P.!! Glad you enjoyed the grow brother! It's funny I laughed when I first started growing and bought that "treasure chest" to hold my bud jars in thinking "I've got waaaaay more room than I will ever need". It's amazing what Powderfeed can do eh? Thanks man I appreciate the nice words and the visit! Best of luck with your 1st grow! Shit man, thanks a lot for that but it's the genes and Powderfeed that deserve the bow I just added some love lol Thanks mykol I know you only like super strong regular photo plants but I swear bro you should put a Super Critical auto or 2, or even a Mango auto or 2 in one of your regular gardens sometime. You will be happily surprised I think and you can get a good yield in a really fast amount of time! The BB auto is amazing as well, especially medically, but if you want heavy indica then I say Super Critical auto. Best of luck finishing your outdoors, a super nice garden man I am more than enjoying them and they improve in the jars all the time, thanks Fran I thought they smelled good 2 weeks ago, now, wow, they are really coming into "maturity". Another huge win for Greenhouse, and me one happy as f*ck fan!! PEACE

2 likesHey Greeno, ya man the results from the NLA plants keep surprising the hell outta me both trichome wise and also yield wise, especially since I have had a bit of a rough go with a few plants between one sprouting but not opening, and the accidental topping of one plant the first grow, which still turned into a super resinous 2 main cola plant. Then past grow the NL was the runt of the litter for most of the grow and had issues to start but turned out to be one of my favourite plants..only got maybe 20 g's left of her if I'm lucky as its a great daytime strain..but watch out it makes you soooo damn hungry! I mean like 9 am and I have the munchies! I still love the Super C auto and the mango auto tho too, and I like the Big Bang auto for medicinal value during the daytime, it's not killer potent but potent enough and man what a yielder. I've got 2 SLH, 1 Trainwreck, and 2 El nino vegging right now in the tent. All but 1 El nino are just over 2 weeks old now, it is about a week behind, had a trainwreck that didn't germinate and I wanted 5 plants so planted another El nino. I am hoping to get the journal up tomorrow, I have been super busy and not really taking many pictures yet. I did try something new and FIM'd the one super healthy SLH. With the height difference between EL nino and SLH I thought it was a good time to try out the technique. Anyways man, thanks for asking, and really nice work on that chemdog, bubba, platinum grow..respect bro, that's some killer bud as usual. I'm looking forward to your FBK grow, it might be my next grow, we will see! Peace

2 likes29/09/13 – This is it!! Well, tomorrow is the last official day of the contest and I thought I would share some curing bud pictures and thoughts on them for anyone still interested in this grow You will notice I also included a picture of the Big Bang auto roots to show that you can use bigger pots and still fill them with roots!! As always please scroll over the pictures for names. I’m sorry if things are a little vague with the reports, but when I have this many different plants to do reports on it is difficult without smoking or vaping each one to go into great detail from memory on the spot (I do keep some notes as I go luckily) but I will do my best to give as much info as I can and if anyone has questions I can go into more detail It would be awesome to have the time to spend all day (or a couple days lol) really just sitting back and smoking/vaping and creating very detailed reports. Wouldn’t that be a dream job eh? Lol Thank you everyone VERY VERY much for following, and a HUGE thanks to Greenhouse and Strainhunters for another awesome contest and a chance to not only enter the best and most unique contest out there for growers like us, but for a chance for us all to learn from each other and become better growers. Peace, good smoke & health to everyone!! Northern lights auto – A nice auto option if you want to grow a strain that has some sativa influence and is overall...**EDIT..just realized I ended my thoughts and words here so, CONTINUED 3 days later lol...I was saying overall the NLA so far has been a strain that has surprised me and despite a few issues with it over 2 grows (mostly of my own screw ups for sure!!) it still has proven capable of producing both big and resinous plants and is a definite strain going into the next crop. Smell & taste – smells VERY sour like the regular photo version with a spicy incense background. When you grind it up you also get a coffee bean like aroma. Taste is incense and light hash, with a little bit of sour fruit on the exhale and is a pleasure to both vape and smoke flavor wise. Effects – Good to increase hunger as it makes my stomach growl like crazy if I have it first thing in the morning. Strong in both body and mind as the GHS catalogue says, excellent during the day, while not a total sativa effect it is still motivating and energizing with no burnout. I find it motivating and great for school or if I have a lot to get done and it seems to work well for pain and hangovers!! Lol Super Critical auto #1 – She was the first to be harvested and 50 days of jar curing is improving all aspects as time passes. She’s is a different pheno than SCA#2 that doesn’t lean as heavily towards the indica side. Lighter green in colour than her sister and smells different as well. Smell & taste– The buds surprisingly have been developing an incredible STRONG skunky lemon smell that I haven’t experienced until this plant, with that floral sea salt background that has been present 2 out of the 3 phenos I’ve had over 2 crops. Effect – This is a better plant for daytime use if I need to use it for pain than the SCA#2, it is still strong but I harvested her a little earlier in maturity than the other so I could use it when the pain got bad without knocking me out. Super Critical auto #2 - I gotta say that the Super Critical auto #2 again has proven itself a VERY nice plant to have in the medicine cabinet with some amazing feedback from a couple other medical users/growers that I shared a little with recently who loved it. When you break into nugs it’s sooo strong smelling you can’t get away with rolling a joint and not stinking up the entire house and it continues to mature very nicely. Smell & taste – Complex and strong! Sour, floral, skunky with a little sea salt and interesting (good interesting) cheesiness in the background as well. Via Volcano this plant produces a very heavy vapor produced without having to load up the chamber. The taste is just as complex as the smell and very similar. Effects – Excellent for pain, muscle tension and sleep. Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit your ass down and munch out or are ready for a nap!! This is a heavy indica that easily keeps up with the Kush’s out there, and if used before bed it’s lights out within 30 mins to an hour for me. Sweet Mango auto #1 - This pheno has a very different bud structure than other SMA’s I’ve grown with less compact but very large buds, a massive main cola, and towering calyxes and although she is maybe my least favourite plant as far as potency, she was a very pretty plant to grow with beautiful red fans at the end. Overall I am still very happy with the results. Smell & taste – When you open a jar of this stuff you take a second whiff to make sure what you’re smelling is actually weed! The aroma is a rich, creamy, sweet mango/orange/guava fruit smell and when you bust up a nug it just gets stronger and a little bit of pine smell comes out as well. My wife says it smells like Campino candies if you have ever had one. The taste in the volcano is similar to the aroma and the pine comes out more again. Smoking this one is smooooth and very enjoyable right to the end of the joint and leaves a nice mild flavor on your tongue. Effect – As I mentioned this pheno does not seem to be quite as potent (but potent enough!) as the SMA#2 plant/pheno in this crop, yet the effect is still long lasting, but that is fine because it is more relaxing and while it can play head games it is not as trippy as her sister. It isn’t going to knock you out but I think it’s great for chilling, watching a movie, listening to music and just letting the stress of the day melt away. Sweet Mango auto #2 - Very to super dense, tight, mainly roundish indica style buds with some decent sized primary colas. The main cola cut up to where she all joined together was not all that big but weighed 10.8 grams dry. I also want to note that even though very dry and completely smokable it is very tacky and sticks to the scissors when cut up. Smell - Just like her name, sweet mango, then a more powerful candied mango/cirtus smell once chopped up and man it fills the house quickly!! One of the coolest smelling strains I’ve smelt, and far better than the 1st crop of SMA’s I grew. I’m really looking forward to her once she cures even longer, and I will try and let some cure long term (4-5 months) as she is my favorite plant so far. Taste - Vaping in the volcano brings out maximum taste right now and is completely smooth even on the last run of the bowl at the highest temperature I use – it is sort of tropical & mildly sweet, like a sweet tart, but still needs time to develop. Smoking her taste was smooth and slightly sweet with thick dense smoke. Effects – This is a very potent plant and the fun starts with a sativa-like energetic effect, along with some light in the head feelings that are a little bit trippy/spacey. Not necessarily great for focussing, it is hard to remain on track and I would much prefer to listen to some nice tunes than to plan anything important I’ve even found myself forgetting about the volcano bag beside me, or to brew the next bowl! I find it to be a mood lifter and while at first it does not make me want to sit down, it does seem to make my head buzz nicely with a slight droopy feeling behind my eyes that seem to want to go out of focus, and a very relaxing feeling in my body. As the effects progress it hits me more in the body and is great to relax tight or spasming muscles and for pain. It is very long lasting and easily can take you through a 3 hour movie even without wanting more. Good for the afternoon and evening or whenever you don’t have much to concentrate on and want to relax and let your mind wander. I would say it is about a 70/30 indica/sativa ratio. Big bang auto – (If you look back to the post on the 13/09/13 there is more detailed info )This plant is starting to cure nicely and the smell which has been incredible from the start continues to improve in all aspects. I now know why Dutch pharmacies sell the regular photo for pain and I will be planting 2 of these next grow for sure! The tight round buds are the densest I’ve grown yet and are truly like rocks in the glass jars. Smell & taste – The smell is getting stronger and it kind of reminds me of a fruity tootsie roll with a sour background. There is a little bit of banana still but not as strong as before. Taste in the volcano is smooth and similar to the smell. Effects - It is already proving to be much stronger than I anticipated when I decided to plant her and it is absolutely phenomenal at relieving muscle tension, nerve pain, headache, as well as stomach upset!! In the evening it is great to relax and later on to prepare for sleep, but it is not a heavy indica in the sense that I can use it during the day for pain or stress and not want to fall asleep. I often mix it with some Northern Lights auto and I get both amazing pain relief and I’m still full of energy and ready to go thanks to the sativa influence from the NLA.

About us
Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.
Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
