3 likesFIM Your Way to Multiple Colas! by Sirius Fourside FIMing: The act of pinching or cutting a young cannabis plant in such a way as to force it to grow 4 main colas instead of one. FIM is used as a word itself, but is actually an acronym for “F**k, I missed!” So what exactly is FIMing? FIMing is an easy way for growers to dramatically increase their yields while also making the plant more manageable for limited spaces. I know that sounds too good to be true, but it’s definitely the case! The problem with the natural growth pattern of the cannabis plant is that it tends to be shaped like a Christmas tree. This is inefficient, and not very good for indoor growing since the main cola will typically receive much more light than the rest of the plant. When you FIM your marijuana plant, it grows 4 main colas instead of one (this is where the extra yields come from). Next, the grower would typically tie those 4 colas down a bit to help force the plant into having a flat canopy. This allows you to lower your lights and makes it so most of the plant is receiving a higher overall amount of light. Whenever you see a picture of a marijuana plant with multiple large buds that are at a similar height, the grower almost certainly used FIMing or another technique called ‘Topping’ to achieve this. At this point, choosing whether to FIM or not might seem like a no-brainer, and I agree that it’s a technique that most growers should employ. However, nothing is absolute, and there could be a few scenarios where FIMing isn’t for you: If you’re doing a tiny microgrow, such as in a computer caseIn tiny stealth microgrows, there isn’t always room for an effective FIM.If you’re doing '12/12 from seed'Your plant will get close to skipping the vegetative stage, and that’s the only time to FIM.Auto-flowering strainsIt's generally a bad idea to top OR FIM auto-flowering marijuana plants, as they don't have enough time to recover before they start flowering, similar to plants grown 12/12 from seedYou don’t like having lots of weed at your disposalI know that sounds like a joke (it was, a bit), but some places have limits to the amount of weed you can possess, and FIMing could actually get you in more trouble in some cases because of all the extra buds you will produce.FIMing vs. Topping First, what is ‘Topping’? Topping is a technique similar to FIMing, wherein you cut a young cannabis plant to create extra colas. However, unlike FIMing, the Topping technique produces 2 colas instead of 4. This article is about FIMing, and does not go in depth about Topping. FIMing can be a superior choice in many cases. Why FIM instead of Top? FIMing is less traumatic to the plantWhen you FIM your cannabis, you only need to pinch the newest growth, which doesn't really stress your plant much. With Topping, totally removing the newest growth is necessary, which is a stressful event for young marijuana plants. FIMing barely slows down plant growth; Topping slows down plant growth considerably for a short period. When you FIM your plant, you will see recovery move at a much higher speed than with Topping. When I FIM one of my plants at the beginning of the day, I can usually already see it adjusting by bedtime. FIMing creates 4 main colas at once, while Topping only creates 2.Double the main colas…no explanation needed! It’s easy to FIM a plant more than once! I wouldn’t necessarily advise this tactic for growers who are new to FIMing, but definitely keep this in mind! You can FIM your cannabis plant more than once, and with some Low Stress Training, you get plants with dozens of colas like the one to the right. How to FIM Your Marijuana PlantsThere are three important factors we need to pay attention to when FIMing your plants for the first time: Pinch vs. Cut – What method do we use to remove/damage the new growth and force new colas? Amount – How much do I pinch/cut? Timing – At what point in the plants development do we FIM?Pinch vs. Cut When you’re FIMing your plant, you have the option of either cutting off a piece of the new growth or pinching it. Both have the potential to work equally well at forcing the plant to create new colas. However, I strongly recommend pinching your plant instead of cutting it since pinching leaves more room for error. Another benefit of pinching is that it leaves the damaged foliage on the plant. This way, your girls at least have a chance to continue using those leaves if they can, whereas with cutting they don’t have the option. Here’s a case: In my last grow, I saw a few weird looking leaves that appeared to be chewed-up. Upon further examination, and judging by where I found them, I determined that they were actually pinched leaves! The plant kept those leaves, and used them to make energy all the way til harvest! Amount When FIMing your plants, the amount you’ll want to pinch is actually quite small. You’re basically pinching the tips of the leaves of the newest growth on the main cola that hasn’t ‘stretched-out’ yet. See the picture further down for a good example. Timing The first pinch or cut in a FIM should happen when your plant has 3-5 nodes (or sets of leaves) in total. Once that initial FIM has been completed and the plant has recovered, a grower can use his/her discretion to determine when to FIM again as it’s mostly based on plant health and desired shape. Just remember to make sure your plant looks healthy and recovered before FIMing again! copied and pasted from - http://www.growweedeasy.com/fim-your-way-to-multiple-colas Topping a Plant 1. Locate the very top of your plant and cut through the main stem just below the newest growth. This should be done after the 3rd or 4th leaf set but can be done at any time after the 3rd leaf set. 2. Shows Plant Top cut off and where the 2 new Branches that will form a "Y" in the main stem will grow from. 3. Shows the newly topped plant after 2 days of growth, notice the Y in the Stem Forming. copied and pasted form - http://www.cannaversity.com/cannaversity/article.php?id=091 Fimming After seeing and hearing many questions about the FIM method I decided to do a tutorial on this method to show exactly how it is done and the results that can be achieved. FIM stands for Fuck I Missed and im not sure how it got that name because its very simple to do. I use this method all the time to help create a wide canopy with many branches and colas. Some people FIM each plant more than once to create even more colas and branches and it works very well for them and has very minimal stress on the plant. I usually FIM plants when they are about 10-12 inches tall (I have done it on both taller and shorter plants) but the earlier the better. As long as the plant has at least 4 true sets of leaves it can be FIMmed successfully. All FIMming should be done at least 2 weeks before turning to 12/12 to maximise the growth potential of the new shoots and maximise the benefits of using this method. #1 Locate the very top of the new growth. #2 With a clean, sterilized scissors, Fold the fan leafs over and cut approximately 80% of the new growth off the plant. #3 This is what it should look like after the cut has been made. #4 View of the Cut section after 2 days growth, showing the 4 new growth shoots (branches) I sometimes dont even use scissors and I just pinch out some of the new growth with my fingers. Heres a few pics of another plant that I pinched with my fingers. This plant has been neglected throughout its short life so far and it has been sitting under a shitty fluro light so it would be doing much better under some decent lighting and better conditions but it gives you an idea of the early progress. You can see the dot where the FIM was done. 4/6/09 Now you can see how many new shoots have started to form and you can get some idea of how many main branches this plant will have This is the difference between FIMming and Topping: copied and pasted from -http://www.marijuanagrowing.eu/tutorials-tips-tricks/the-fimming-tutorial-t36632.html Peace Lams

3 likesSenior Pablo, Your photos and your plants are absolutely wonderful. I know that was a lot of hard work. Nice Job. If you want tall plants, stay with Sativas or with Crosses/Hybrids having high Sativa percentages. Indicas are almost always smaller plants. Just be aware that the body and psychoactive affects of the two types are different. Sativas generally produce a more exciting mental effect, sometimes resulting in creativity, excitability and unfortunately sometimes a paranoia-feeling. Indicas generally produce a more relaxing body effect, sometimes including a relaxing mental effect. This is sometimes referred to as "couch-lock", where one sits and isn't motivated to do anything for minutes or hours at a time, basically zoning-out on Television or watching plants grow or watching drops of water evaporate. ;P Knowing this, many home-growers decide to grow both types so that they have an exciting smoke for the morning to get their day going with a bang, then a nice relaxing smoke for the afternoon or evening to throw off the stress of the day or to get ready for sleep. Greenhouse Seed Company in particular (and also some other seed companies) has both Indica and Sativa types, as well as various Crosses/Hybrids. The descriptions of the strains include the THC to CBD (sometimes CBN) ratios as well as the Sativa/Indica ratios. Sometimes the descriptions include the perceived psychoactive effects. If you haven't already seen them, I recommend your viewing a couple of the Strain Hunters' Documentaries: India Expedition and Malawi Expedition (I think it was the Malawi... Anyway, it was one of the African expeditions.). In these documentaries, one can see some excellent specimens of some truly HUGE plants. I don't remember for sure whether seeds were collected from those specimens or whether those specimens were grown from Greenhouse seeds, but it may be worth your asking Greenhouse Seed Company if you could buy some of those seeds. Your LIZARDS !!! WOW, that's amazing what lengths the lizards will go to to get to the plants. Please, please, if it's not too much trouble, include a photo of one of the lizards. It doesn't have to be dining on one of your ladies; I'm just super-curious to see the animal. As far as your early flowering goes, I think lamsbread is right. With a constant year-long 13-hour daylight photo-period, I don't think you will be able to prevent early flowering. Maybe you could possibly delay the start of flowering one or two or three weeks if the nutrients during the Growth Phase were tailored PURELY for growth; that is, by reducing or eliminating the nutrients and minerals that would normally encourage or facilitate flowering. When the plants flower anyway, or when you decide it is time for the plants to flower, then flush away the pure-growth nutrients and begin the Regime of N-P-K and Micro-components suitable for a healthy Flowering Phase. Obviously, this would mean that the soil selected to begin with would need to be either without nutrients or with reduced or eliminated P-K components (such as Cocos or Vermiculite/Perlite or Sphagnum Moss or some similar nutrient-poor substrate); meaning further, that you would be solely responsible for supplying all the right nutrients to the plants at every feeding. I don't know for sure that this procedure would work to delay your flowering under a continuous 13-hour daylight; it is only an hypothesis, and it might be worth testing against a Control Group of the same Strain. I would certainly be interested in the results if you were to conduct such an Experiment. If you wish to learn more about N-P-K and their scheduled ratios for the 3 Basic Phases (Growth, Flowering, Final-Top/Flush/Harvest), then research the schedules available online from BioBizz and from Advanced Hydroponics. There may also be info available from HESI Nutrients, from General Hydroponics, from Greenhouse Powder Feeds, or maybe also from Fox Farms/Happy Frog of North California. If nothing else, the preceeding can serve as a list of trusted nutrient suppliers. Sorry, I haven't yet found any Holy Grail collection of Information of exact science on NPK for the Stages of MJ. Nor have I yet found any NPK and Phase-specific Information from Greenhouse. It could be that such Information is so sensitive that it is treated as proprietary information (secret Information necessary for the recipès of the various feeding formulas). However, if anyone else reading this knows where to find NPK and Phase-specific schedules for MJ, I would certainly be happy to receive it. I hope this helps, Senior Pablo. Good Job, and enjoy your harvest. 'sapean

2 likesBuenas!

2 likesthank you very much dust!!! this week I will make some more pic with a better camera. too bad that lizards still found a way too munch abit on my ladies.... one day I came there and I saw 1 eating one of my girl... I was really wondering how they got in my construction so I rollt a big joint and sit down and watch what happens from a distance. what I just made me shock!!! men!!! lizards can almost fly I can tell you now!!! these little fckers just climb in a big tree and then jump into my cage from like 2 meter of distance.... WOUW.... they go extreme!!! so now I cut more trees so they can fly in anymore. but they still had me good. that why a lot of my girl have some damage on the leaf... not nice for pictures... about the harvest: offcourse im really happy that it all work out but I didn't start planting for this result... the plants indeed stayd really small after they start showing flower... It really demotivated me a lot but I learnt from it and now the next session I want too go BIG!!! and that where I really need you guys help for. Who can give me the right info for picking the right strain of seeds!!! the BIG problem I have here is that we always have 13hours of light every day, hole year long. thats why my plants went into flowering stage so early I think. or dos someone think it could be of the NPK already was in the soil from when they were still young??? and offcourse it always super hot here. around the 32C. witch way do I have to look? more sativa or indica. a friend of mine ones planted skunk #1 and that work out pretty good he told me. now there is some early skunk and Mexican sativa on the way. I orded this a few months ago but now Im not sure if they will grow good here... but I hope with the right information I can order the really right seeds from greenhouse seeds!! Soon more pics will follow. P'z

1 likeyeah at the cup there was no strawberry on the menu it was louds 7/8 instead of it on the menue.... well due to the news from the netherlands that the voting to ban weed over 15% thc out of the shops i will make some trips over before july for sure.

1 likeAloha dust, Excellent points my friend. I tend to look at a hydro system or a soilless substrate like an aquarium with small tender fish that do not like radical changes in pH or EC. I root cuttings at EC .6-.8. They take 6 days to root and then the feed is increased to 1.0 EC for two days, 1.2 for two days and more can be added up to 1.8 depending on the growth stage and the strain.

1 likeDepends what brand you want and where you live -most shops will ship internationally but prices are better if you order inside your country.. Anyway the most common bongs are ROOR, Weed Star + Bam Bam Bhole in my neighborhood. The type for daily use not the glass art types .. If you want ROOR try their online shop, if you wat cheaper quality Bam-Bhole.de in berlin will hep you and finally my choice is WEED Star. good glass, percolators and all that for reasonable prices. These bongs do work real fine without costing you the real big bucks. Of course ROOR is worth the premium - if you got the spare change starts around 80Euros for the Little Sista ..Just google Glass Bongsand you will get countless web store adresses.. http://www.head-shop.de/tree/3041/Bam-Bam-Bhole-Glas-Bongs/ http://weed-star.com/ http://www.roor.de/

About us
Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.
Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
