Hello hunters, so here i am to announce this very sad news that some of you must know already, we have lost a hunter but will keep fighting! Respect my brother Franco is an icon and helped change so many peoples lives. He will deeply be missed as a brother, father, son, friend and so much more. "Cannabis is my passion, my bread, my home. I feel it is my duty to make sure this amazing plant is preserved and enjoyed. I am a smoker, a grower, a breeder, and a strain hunter. For life."Franco, the Strain HunterMay 20th 1974 - January 2nd 2017

I, too, have dropped a seed in memorium of Franco. I'm sure that Franco was actively planning a number of strain-breeding projects, but one in particular, of which he may have been especially proud, was the SLEX (SuperLemonHaze x ExodusCheese). At least he seemed very excited about it when he was interviewed recently by Zamnesia Magazine. The testers here in StrainHunters have been very happy with SLEX. The initial SLEX grows have already been harvested, and the smoke-reports are now being posted with positive opinions. I will be ordering the SLEX for sure, as soon as it becomes available for sale. By the way, if you don't know already, there is a Condolences Board opened if you wish to leave a message of condolence for Franco's family and friends, or a farewell message for Franco. On the page showing various pictures of Franco and displaying his life's philosophy, before you click on the link to the actual Condolences Board, first simply scroll down below Franco's pictures, and then you can read Arjan's special message to Franco and to us, Franco's friends, the StrainHunters. Here is the link to the Condolences Board: http://www.greenhouseseeds.nl/franco/ Thank you , too, Arjan for the reassurance that Franco's legacy will continue. Hang in there, buddy. We're with you.

We all loved him, brother. His passion was certainly an inspiration for me. I am so happy to have gotten to know him, even if it was only through the grow session videos and the documentaries and an occasional reply in the forum. So, now his dream lives on in us. I am proud to be a Strain Hunter... Let's carry on his work... And thank you, Dust. Your comment confirmed what I had hoped for, that we will fight on. It would be a shame to not carry on what he had started. I want to do my part. My thoughts are also with his family and friends. And he has lots of friends. Our hearts are heavy with grief, but time will heal.

Hey hunters no pics this update, i will how ever get myself to start off the actual grow diary's soon.... time is a mofo so back why i nearly cried... This morning after the standard ritual of going downstairs to make a cup of tea...no Englishmen jokes the kettle was half-way through boiling when my Electricity goes completely.... I enter freak out mode! i run to the fuse box everything is ok..... Panic sets in! many thoughts race through my brain.... almost uncontrollable to what might have happened and what might happen.. I waste no time in wondering, I have girls to take care of, I run to my grow room and start dragging my girls out of there tents and putting them anywhere where there was light and not noticeable through windows, On beds on top of bookcases there was plants everywhere and i still had one tent to clear..... but no more space... I had no choice..... time to check out this darkness period before switching to 12/12..... This will be my first time of using this technique and i wanted to try it but not under these circumstances and not with 12 of my best plants that's for sure! So with everything as stable as it could be I run to the nearest house and ask the all important question "Is your electricity out" They look at me with a face of confusion "did you not get the letter" 'No, what letter i replied..... Turns out the Electricity board had sent out a letter two weeks ago explaining that the electricity would be out for about 8 hours!!!!! 8 HOURS!!!! So with that i say my goodbye's (i rarely see them) and run back to my babies.... I spend my time on fully checking every plant which is out and all are 100% healthy, i roll and spliff and read about 30 pages of my book and to my surprise the kettle finishes boiling I HAVE POWER! so was only 4 hours of darkness when my girls should had light, but i figured 4 hours is still too much so i will continue with the dark period.... its all about experimenting after all BUT just so happened to be the day where i was going to transplant the rest to there final flower pots and feed the rest which will no have to wait till the next opportunity the moon gives me, So now to read up about this whole darkness period. has anyone done it before? best for 24hours or 48? I will post up pics soon.... all i will say on them is that there....BIG Peace Edit- few pics of the ones not in darkness.

Salute fellow growers ?? Experiencing extremely hot weather then extreme rain so having an issue with stabising the humidity. Started the ladies training program me - aiming for a frame of two tops on the one and four on the other tree. This marks 1/3rd of the way through their vegetation schedule. I'm impressed as for being in veg they have an intense strong scent. BW

BMG, I must say, I love that you are asking me these questions, because I thoroughly enjoy passing on what I know, or if I dont know something, by participating here, I learn a lot. But I also look around, and I can just imagine all the big guys, the true professionals are all laughing at me. There are lots of truely professionals among us here in StrainHunters. I am a grower, but on a small scale. Some of the others in here have huge rooms, and there are others who may not have big operations, but they have much much more and richer experience than I do. I started my first seeds back in ~1979, but I didnt know a thing about growing, and they all failed and I stopped. After that, I pursued a 20 year military career followed by 13 years of career-changing. I returned to the growing scene in a big way when I discovered StrainHunters November 2013. I was enthralled with StrainHunters and I jumped in with both feet, and I never looked back. I am a cannabis enthusiast through and through, though I cannot claim to be as dedicated as Franco was, nor as dedicated as Arjan or the other StrainHunters and employees SH/GHSC; because they earn their living from the industry. I work in a completely different industry for my living, and I love it. But I love the cannabis culture and the technik that surrounds it as well. I just wanted to be completely honest with you, and not mislead you to think that I am some guru. I just enjoy studying cannabis and the technik, and passing on as honestly as possible what I have learned. And I enjoy helping others also discover the technik and this wonderful forum. The real experts here have left their legacy within the forum in the grow journals and in the Grow session videos with Franco and Arjan. That is where the knowledge really is. Oh and not just the great journals, but also the grow journals that contain the big flops are important. By seeing the mistakes of others, we can also learn, without necessarily suffering the cost or loss in order to learn what not to do. OK, to your questions... Grow phases, basically they all over-lap. As soon as the seed stands and the chlorophyl can see the light, it has begun the vegetative phase. We just sort-of split-up the vegg phase into sub-sets for the purpose of discussions. I like to think of the seedling stage as from stand-up until the cotylins dry-up or die or fall off. It's only a reference point. I usually don't worry too much about nutrients while the cotylins are full; too much nutrients can kill a seedling quickly. But when the cotylins begin to fade or yellow or fall off, then that's a good time to slowly introduce nutrients, half-strength for the first feeding, wait and read the plant, then increase a little more the next time, then full-manufacture-recommended strength. I've never heard of "pre-veg", I dont use that term. ******************* Remember, the first couple sets of leaves are often funny looking. No big deal.

That is possible. It's up to you. It's your post. Just understand, if you want to delete a picture completely, you may need to delete it from two places in the original post. When you open the post with "Edit", you may find the picture among the thumbnails under your comment, and you may find the same picture where you had placed it inside your comment. You will learn this when you start editing your posts. It's actually fun if you like messing around with such things. In fact, I encourage you to practice this. The more you understand about picture management and editing, the better you will become with your grow journals. You can also import text documents and graphics. The following is for anyone who reads this... Here is a fun exercise for you. To see an example of a very creative and entertaining grow journal, take a look at the journal created by "Gonzo" or "Gonzo's Ghost" (forgot which), the journal is called "Gonzo's Money Maker Adventure". This journal won a prize. You'll laugh your eyes off. Just click on my Avatar, look in my profile and find my friends or followers. Find Gonzo and click on his Avatar, then you'll be in his profile. Click to look at his activity; you'll need to search waaay back in his history, but eventually you will see the words "Gonzo's Money Maker Adventure". Click into that, then click into page 1, and you'll be at the start of that journal. Have fun. If you do the above exercise, you will learn a lot about navigating in the forum. You will be well on your way to begin mastering the forum. Just please remain kind and courteous, friendly and helpful to others. That's what we are all about here at StrainHunters.

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
