Nice one SukonmiSkunk, plenty of tips there. It's freakishly hot up there for the moment, so I'm thinking to set it all up over the next month or so and plug it in once the weather gets a bit cooler.
Found this by Danny Danko on High Times which has a few more ideas, http://www.hightimes.../read/beat-heat not sure I like the sound of water cooled lighting though!

i Install ducted air cond for a living.. well i did(25 years in the trade).. and it will always be way hotter in your roof space than it is out side.. general rule is about 15degrees Celsius hotter.
how is your roof space set up? is it just a roof space.. or been converted to a spare room? Is there going to be light leaking out from your roof tiles/tin? you dont want to be walking down the road and your house looking like a disco ball with light beaming out everywhere.
That size is about the the same size as my growdrobe with a 400 so you should be fine with the light under normal conditions, but being summer.. and the roof being around 15c hotter.. i think youre going to have heat issues. with that said.. i think for the rest of the year youll be fine. The next issue youre going to have.. is where are you going to be bringing air in from?, if youre using the roof space.. and intaking air from youre roof space.. it will be hot air not cool.. causing issues. also you will need to run a filter on your intake air. The dust that floats around in the roof space is a lot more than a bedroom and will definitely need to be filtered.
Is the tent the best option?
The space is a converted room so hopefully light will not be an issue, I'll check it out though just in case. Good point about where the "fresh" air will be coming from. Also, good point about whether the tent is the best option. Alternatively, I could just put the plants directly in the room under the lights, this might help a little with the heat over the summer. The room is not so big. I would just need to make sure there are no light leaks when I have the exaust air coming out of the skylight in the roof. There is a big wooden beam running down the middle of the room so I can easily suspend the lights etc from there. Will save a little bit of cash on the tent to boot
I'm liking this approach, gives me more flexibility to scale up too
I wonder would having the space open make any difference due to the light that would have been reflected from the interior of a tent? Maybe I could knock together a makeshift frame and put some white plastic on it to help reflect the light but still keep it open. It's a rented house so I'm afraid repainting the walls is not an option.
hi man, well like you said the most logical would be to setup the room first and see how it goes, if you are able to run it at night without no one seeing etc, an opened window should do the trick and pu you around 26° which is suportable for the girls
if you start to go above 28° you can think about starting to buy an aircon, up to 30° they handle it if you have a good airflow and you can also add a little CO2 to help them handle the heat. but as you migh know the more you keep the temps around 25° the happier they are
they will just not die if you have higher temps it can be done but won't be the best results, but it's only for the season it comes back to normal a little later and you will need a heater
:Pgood luck
Thanks Dust, good to know that the worst thing that can happen is a lower yield. Thanks for the CO2 tip. I met a guy in Spain a few weeks back who explained to me how to make a simple CO2 "machine" from some coke bottles, bicarbinate of soda and some vinegar. Now's my chance to give it a whirl

Ha yeah, in a few months I'll be posting questions on how to raise the temp!

I'm in the process of planning a small grow tent in my loft. It's the only place where I have space to do such a thing.
I found a tent that fits in my local grow shop. It's 120x60 with a height of 160. I cannot go any higher thanks to the sloping roof. They suggested a 400W HPS which seems right to me, not that I have any experience of growing under lights.
Before investing I have been measuring the temperature up there. It's summer in Belgium and the temp has been reach a max of nearly 30 degrees C in this room during the day (usually more like 25-27), when the lights will be off. In the night it goes down to 20-22 degrees. The guy in the growshop said the bulb should raise temps inside the tent by about 5 degrees.
I'm wondering if I should get an aircon unit to keep the temp down in the outside room. The space is not so big so will not be a huge drain on energy bills. Alternative would be to set it up and see if it works ok and invest in aircon if things are are really too hot. I could also aircool the hood, though I heard this may not be good for the bulbs.
I'd be really keen to hear what more seasoned growers think.
Cheers

It's been a while. The plant is still happy. I've mixed feelings with this hempy bucket. On the one hand it's super easy and clean. I left the plant for 10 days and it was in great shape when I returned. I took these pics the day I got back. However, having to use non organic nutes is a bit of an issue for me, as I'm growing for myself I want the nicest taste and to know that what went in was all natural. That said, it's been a fun experiment. If anyone knows an organic option for a hempy bucket I'd love to hear it.
These were taken about 2 weeks ago. Now the buds are filling up nicely and I've been flushing for about 10 days, no sign of yellowing leaves yet. I may have started the flush a bit prematurely, things seem to happen in slow motion on the windowsill

Will follow up with more pix just before I harvest. The buds are getting heavy so the plant is now supported by bamboo canes. I imagine I will harvest in two phases. The top flowers are much more advanced than those at the bottom.

That link didnt work but i google searched the name of the tents and got it that way. yeah those tents look nice and hardy. whats the price range on those? i know on ebay you can find some really cheap ones. just make sure you dont get ripped off
theres alot of cheap fakes out there
happy highs bro
Oops yeah sorry, a "." found it's way into the link. I edited the post. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I found the Roof Qube's here - http://www.chrissiesgarden.co.uk/roof-qube-86-c.asp
seem to cost 165GBP for a small one (120x120) and 275GBP for large one (120x240) plus shipping. I think the small one would fit in my space
Cheers, and continued good luck with the grow!2 people like this -
Looking good, my those plants are bushy

Bikesnweed grow tents are pretty good investment i think, Im using a brand called * secret Jardin * and so far its got me through 4 grows in one year so they are well worth the money and save alot of hassel trying to make DIY grow rooms smell proof.
Thanks for the tip. By coincidence, I think that they are made not from from where I live, my local growshop stocks them. The trouble I have at the moment is, the only space I have to erect such a tent is under a pitched roof and I couldn't find any secret jardin tents that fit. I did find these though http://green-qube.com. I hope they work as well. Cheers.

Will do, glad to find a fellow windoswill grower! This has citrus lime smell to it. Which I hope will translate to a nice taste. The only other sativa like strain I grew in the windowsill was GWS auto, I couldn't find them again this year online so maybe just a fly by night pollen chucker
Had a pretty good yield given the grow setup. The high was not so strong but pleasant enough. I'm hoping this one will pack a little more punch, seeing as though it's won a cup an all. Best results in the windowsill so far have been with AutoMazar, if you are into indica's I recommend it. I like the idea of throwing a light into the mix. I wonder if it would be possible to hook up a light meter to let it kick in when the light levels are low?

Hey bikesnweed looking cool man, I just got my 10 pack of SAS from bigbuddah to go in a small hydro setup

You have to let me know how she smokes !!

Will do Organicz. Smelling very nice right now, I just hope the Belgian sun is strong enough to make the most of the flowers that are starting. If you're growing indoors then I'm sure you'll getter better results than my windowsill, you may be finished before me
Would love to see the grow pics as a comparison. Cheers -
Ahoy brother.
Your plant is looking good. I'm just waiting for spring to arrive, then I'm gonna try my hand at hempy grow.
I've got 2 Santa x Chaze Auto's that I'm using o make some fem beans.
What type of nutes are you using???
I read everywhere that hydro nutes is used, but I'm not a chemical guy. Or atleast I try not to be. I did some research on worm farming and came across a read that said that if you added 1 handfull of worm compost to warmish water, 5L, and chuck some molasses in your good to use in hydro setups. Well, after you strain it properly of course. So I wanna give that a go cause I have my own worm farm going already.
Your thoughts on that ???
Hey Stinky Pete, thanks man
Thanks to Dust too for the encouragement!I’m using Grow, Micro, Bloom 3 part hydroponic nutrient from Advanced Nutrients. To be honest I was lazy and asked the guys in the local grow store what they recommended for a hydro grow and that is what they recommended. He said I'd have issues with algue if I went bio. I'm pretty busy at the moment so wanted to keep things simple.
Would love to hear how things go with your hempy bucket and especially if a good bio alternative would work with it. My previous experience is with a soilless mix based on a recipe I found on HighTimes.com. I was using bio nutes for that, but had issues with bugs, smell and dirty drain off water. Wife not too happy with that in the house! Terrific smoke though
How I wish I had a greenhouse.I'm happy with the growth I'm getting from the hempy but the leaves feel a bit papery to me, felt a lot more healthy with the soilless mix. I know where you are coming from about chemicals. I should research more but now I have loads of chems to use up.
I guess life is all about comprimises... cheers

One week later, probably not much change. Seems to have stopped stretching as the buds start to grow more. Photos were shot on my iPhone 4S using Camera+, with no lens but a bit of post processing using Snapseed.
She's about 80cms tall. Too big for the windowsill so sits by the window and under a skylight. When I'm not at work I get to shift her around as the sun moves.
Here's the view from the top.
And here's one from below with the sunny skylight.
A close up of the crown.
Trichomes forming on flowers and sugar leaves. x6 digital zoom (the max).
Should get a good few grams out of this. Not bad for the cost of a seed.

Love it, can't wait to see more

They did another one back in April called "B.C. Bud", only it's not on YouTube yet.
I've put all three parts on my website for ease of viewing - http://headhaze.com/...e-news-b-c-bud/ (hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by sharing this)
I recommend watching all three

This is one of my favourite weed documentaries I've seen because it shows what will happen in a legal market. Enjoy!

I love the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers! I did a dissertation on them at college. I have a compliation of all their comics, essential reading for bathroom breaks

Found this in YouTube - dated 2006, seems that it's taking longer than they expected to make

Here's a couple more....

Here's a plant i've been growing on my windowsill. It's about 7 weeks old. Strain is Super Automatic Sativa from Big Buddha.
I don't have a garden or anywhere for a grow room/tent so have been experimenting growing on my south facing windowsill. This is my third season but the first time growing SAS. It's looking a bit lanky but there are plenty of buds starting to form. The weather has been terrible here so I'm suprised at how big it's getting. Too big for the windowsill! My major problem is that the window faces out onto the street. I've hung some netting over the window to disguise it but it must stop some of the light getting in which may explain the lankiness.
This is also my first time using the hempy bucket hydroponic technique (with 3 parts perlite and 1 part vermiculite). I like it a lot, was using a soilless mix before and it was too messy for a windowsill. The plant is bigger than previous grows, but hard to judge if it is the medium, the strain or the nutes that is making the difference - probably all three. I’m using Grow, Micro, Bloom 3 part hydroponic nutrient from Advanced Nutrients.
Here are the pictures so far.
Thanks for checking them out. Would love to hear any tips or answer any questions. Cheers.

How about the party on the island in St Vincent? Arjan and Franco made a quick exit before things got out of hand. I wanna watch them all again now

Critical, Crimea Blue (heavy) and Candy Kush (absolutely sublime) have all been good for helping me sleep.
I also picked up a strain once from Eindhoven call "Sudden Death". I was a bit nervous to smoke it! Turned out to be more of a "Sudden Couchlock", which may be what you are looking for.
As r4nd0m says it helps to take the whole picture into account when dealing with sleep issues. Lots of exercise works for me and avoiding coffee and alcohol. Also, try researching Sleep Hygiene, strange way of calling it but it helps you get into good habits to sleep well. Here's an article on wikipedia about it - http://en.wikipedia....i/Sleep_hygiene

Awesome pictures, those plants looked really happy in the UK sun

Just wondering, where in the UK you grew these? Don't have to disclose your location, North, Middle, South would be sufficient. Reason I ask is my pops is located in the North East and he seems interested in autoflowering plants, it'd be good to point him in the direction of a strain that would work for him. He'd never bother with lights but I'm sure would be happy to grow in the back garden. Cheers.
