Yes Mycelia produces Co2 but I would like to see the results in a controlled environment. I can't imagine that a fully colonized myco bag could raise the ambient Co2 enough to make a calculable difference. Even if you were looking at Co2 to raise the ppm in a very limited grow space because the plants devour the ambient gas, I can't see it being capable of keeping up. I won't make an indefinite statement as to it's claims and ability without control data, however I am very very doubtful.

I'm going to have to agree with dust. I've used them as a normal rig before but if you have the opportunity to get a ducted hood with a wider reflector for around the same price, snatch it up!

Starting a new grow of 16 Masa Critica BCN. The description raises a lot of hype of high yield with short flowering time but with taste, aroma, and potency. I purchased this strain with the intention of using it in a low clearance for root to fruit, aeroponic, vertical, scrog but decided I would also run some through ahead of time to size it up against with my most successful to date growing method and the BDS Special and Kush plant I've been harvesting with great rewards! Anyway, here is the 1st tote, already starting their week of Veg before flower in their habitat. Already, they're quite healthy with a very short inter-node space. They're a 75/25 Indica dominant Big Bud crossed with Afgani Skunk These plants are currently under a 600w MH being moved there from a table with a 6 bulb T5 seen here: I just finished the other growing chamber this evening so I have the opportunity to show you a little more of how I assemble it. First, this is made of a 27 Gal tote which I purchased in the US at a Home Depot. I modify the top of the tote as seen here: Notice above, the very edge of the lid is black and the majority of the lid is white. As the lid starts out as Yellow, I paint it black to block out light and then paint it white to reflect light and avoid unnecessary thermal energy in my res. I just ran out of white paint for this lid so I'll finish it next cycle. In this design intended for a very short veg period, I have 8 3" net pots with neoprene plugs and two 1 7/8" holes for wires, gauges, air hoses or whatever else I need to pass into the res. I use a basic window and door self adhesive seal found in the weatherization aisle of Home Depot like this one which can be peeled into two separate seals which cover two boxes. It also makes it easier to turn corners without creasing the seal. Notice the light blue mess around the outside of the seal? That's OSI Quad petroleum based caulk. I use it often on homes and is an amazing product! Sticks like glue and remains permanently flexible. This stuff is blue, left over from a house I worked on. I'm lucky that 3" net pots with the lid available to me is perfect for this lid and hole size to easily be able to chisel out a retaining notch where I can clip my net pots into which secures the plant for the duration of the grow! I built this pvc manifold and attached it to a 395 gph submersible pump. When left on the floor and the A/C running I can maintain a res temp between 63*F and 70*F I will be using the entire GH Flora Seriese and additives but I suppliment with super thrive, House and Gardens root stimulater, Shooting Powder and Cal Mag if necessary; I have a relatively high ppm in my well water tap at 240-280 ppm and don't normally need it unless using coco. Most of the GH Flora nutes will be at or near 1/2 streingth as it always seems high for some reason. Beginning PPM is around 800 however 250 of that is from the well water. PH is currently set to 5.6 and I'm fine with anything from 5.5-5.8 at this time. My next cycle to compare is likely to be with the powder feeding line. I hope it can show up the GH stuff so I can KISS! I use two large air stones for the res Lastly, I swear by this short cycle panda timer where each slot represents approximately 40 seconds. I start with fresh clones at 40 sec on / 40 off and gradually work up to 1/6 on up to only 40 seconds every 20 minutes later in flowering. They are part of the reason I can get this on only my 4th day. I will be filling up this new unit with 8 more of the best of the critical mass plants from this cloner which a friend got started for me. I will keep you guys updated on my progress as I can. I hope you enjoy the show!

Interesting! With all the loosening of laws in the US, I wonder if this is something that might be explored more into in the near future. I would love to try a Weed honey!

Cannabissapean, on 31 Jul 2015 - 03:17 AM, said: Really nice set-up man. Love the aeroponics set-up, and the description of your future aeroponics idea. You do take things seriously. Looks like you are completely sold on the nutrient family "General Hydroponics". Some of your pics aren't opening for me (maybe my Explorer); do you have a picture of the Blue Labs pH Controller? Which model do you have, and let us know if it works well for you. Thanks. Hey, in your post on 29 July at 12:51 PM, in the 5th photo, I see a plant that seems to have leaves with only 3 leaflets; none of the leaves seem to exhibit the 5- or 7-leaflet characteristic. What is the strain of that specimen? For those Hunters who are curious, here is some info with pictures about Pythium Root Rot on marijuana: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=228590 If the link fails in the future, simply search with an engine "Pythium on marijuana"... Thanks for your kind words! The plant you described is the unknown Kush hybrid I spoke of prior. Flowering, it can be seen in the 1st of the flowering area pics. Its buds can be seen cured and close up next to the super thrive bottle with the big knots. The leaf structure on many of my plants right now unfortunately dropped down to three leaflets. They have seemed to do it after stressing. Some of the plants you see that are stretched and may look like they had bug damage or a nitrogen deficiency were stationed outdoors to be planted but due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to get back to them in a timely manner so they were quickly overtaken by native grasses and slugs. They were brought back inside to be nursed back to health (I have a very effective pest control program that does not include any chemical spray indoors to where I need not worry about bringing contaminated or infested plants back inside). As far as the other 3 leaflet plants go, they were all 5+ at one point. I recently mixed up my own organic soil for the 1st time and made some errors resulting in dangerously low PH which I'm only just now getting back under control. The other large mother (BDS Special) plant in the black tote pot is the last of my problem children. They are both pretty old plants and have supplied me with hundreds of clones each. I expect the Kush hybrid to be back to 100% soon and pushing out 5 point leaves again. There is a picture of the Blue Labs controller (last pic in my last post with pictures). If the image does not show the model is "Bluelab Ph Controller 716342. I've found that PH has almost always been my biggest problem since I got my environment under control. In addition to my mycology endeavors and this, I'm also an independent residential contractor and own an online retail store so I'm an incredibly busy person. I'm doing my best to automate at least my flowering room so my nutrient solution attention is reduced to under an hour a week which is very doable with the PH controller, a few reservoirs and potentially the Powder feeding regimen. That brings me to my final response. I'm sold on the GH nutrient line as a multi-step approach due to it's low comparative cost and results which I seem able to get some pretty incredible yields while other gardeners I know use other brands and can't seem to produce nearly the same amount or quality. That said, I've been observing some of the grow journals here and I'm really impressed with the beautiful plants and yields being produced of the Powder feeding line. Coming from you guys, it shouldn't surprise me though it still manages to. I intend to source it locally if possible soon and give it a test run. If it does for me what I'm seeing it do for others - it will greatly streamline my process, simplify my routine, and save me a lot of time and headache! I have high hopes for it.

The paper is the template I made up for the baffles where lots of holes will be drilled in them to redistribute the solution into more of a "rain" type pattern when running. The rest of the time, the roots will hang in the air. There will be a screen around the columns where the plants will be weaved through. I'm really excited about this design. From everything I've personally experienced to date, I have high expectations of its potential. I hope to be able to keep it enclosed and supplement with CO2 but we'll have to see how cool I can keep the cool tubes and ambient temp under control. I currently have 11,000 BTU of AC running between the two rooms but I'll be running 3400 watts total but the ballasts are also within the air conditioned space. I know I'll need to upgrade my cooling capacity but we'll see by how much. It's not as simple as the 3k btu to 1k w formula. The new Blue Labs PH controller makes me about the happiest guy in the world and was well worth the $430 USD I paid for it if it works! lol. I currently have a pretty sizable investment into this 80 unit. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.

I’m in the process of constructing an 80 unit root to fruit vertical set up with 2x 600w hps and 1 600w mh. No emitters, simple fence post design with gravity irrigation through a series of baffles which keep the water dispersed evenly. I expect to have it all set by the time the clones seen in those pics above are all ready to rock and roll. Some of the progress so far -

I hope you like what you see! Please forgive the BDS Special in flower (last pic) It was before I got my A/C into that room and suffered from a pythium attack. Unfortunately, I though I had a day or two and prioritized it below where it needed :-(

newyorkfungi started following Bees using Cannabis pollen to make Honey with THC
-
That's an interesting question. I'm aware of Rhododendron pollen carrying poisonous alkaloids which are retained in the Honey but THC isn't also an alkaloid to my understanding as it's a cannabinoid. It would seem data on the THC and CBD content of Cannabis or the testing of Honey harvested from a hive of Bees on a Cannabis field. Hopefully someone with a more detailed understanding chimes in!

newyorkfungi started following abstract light cycle 16 on/12 off
-
I'm going to guess it worked out based on other information I've gathered. I've recently designed a system which is controlled by a home appliance networking program that has unlimited adjustable values for whatever variable you design. In addition, in my location, my outdoor BDS special clones begin to show flowering growth in the 1st week of August. That means the plant recognizes the cycle change in the last week of July when (according to my local news weather almanac) the photo period (sun rise to sun set) is actually 14H 41M (not including twilight). In addition, with a Latitude of 43.3, the photo period does not actually ever reach 12 h until 9/26. Again, I am collecting this information from a local weather station almanac however if sun rise is calculated by the sun breaching the horizon and the sun setting by it waning over the horizon, this leads me to believe the industry standard is a "safe zone". Now we should all know this will be different for different strains at different latitudes, however I also get a feeling the photo period can be pushed well under the 12 hour dark periods for many strains. I expect to take a slightly more modest approach on test run cycle with a photo period of 14 on and 11 off and see how things work out with several different strains varying from 100% Indica to 100% Sativa and also hybrids in between. Now, I understand I have no post count to speak of; however I've waited many years to contribute online until I grew confident I could hold my own carrying meaningful debates, and offer factual information discovered and proven in controlled environments. I'n conclusion, I hate being wrong so much I would rather not speak than chance embarrassing myself. You'll learn this in time. I'll report back when I have meaningful data to contribute on the matter. Cheers!

newyorkfungi started following Defoliation - A New Supercropping Technique
-
In my limited experience I've have had great success with pruning off leaves I felt were either shading nodes that would be more productive with direct light than the leaf could offer, lower under-performing leafs, or leafs which were victim of a nutrient imbalance. I've personally felt anything other than an optimum leafs would cause the plant to use more energy in an attempt to heal the damage than to simply divert that energy to more effective production. This is of course only after your deficiency is addressed. I hope this is found helpful!

Hello everyone! wanted to start by saying I'm a self identified Mycologist and that i consider myself a talented cannabis cultivator who has spent many years researching, learning from both my own mistakes, and those of a small group of dedicated cultivating friends. I take my growing pretty seriously and I learned the hard way quite some time ago there really is very little room for slacking if I expect to produce high quality cannabis with bag appeal! I make sure I offer the proper equipment and environment, even if it means constant improvement of the area. I've personally grown in many different grow mediums and systems to include Soil and soil organic, Coco coir, Outdoor Guerrilla, Deep Water Culture, and a whole lot of experience with Aeroponic and Aero / DWC mix. I've used, developed, and built several different Aero apparatus designs of varying sizes, efficiency, and complexity. That all being said, you guys at GHSC are my freaking heroes! In my honest opinion, you guys are the industry standard. The quality and stability of your genetics are what I've come to expect from a seed provider and am often (Not always) reminded of that often when straying else where. Your support to the community, industry, and for your product has been priceless and valued highly! You are an inspiration and make it easier to remain steadfast to approach cultivation from a scientific method position. I'm a very motivated, passionate, and competent person and am glad to have you guys setting the bar I can always aim for even if unattainable this late in the game. I'm looking forward to further growing as a grower with you guys and offering what I can in return to the community. I hope to be able to visit your shops some day! Cheers!

About us
Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.
Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
