  1. Dear friends, I've promised you some pics but didn't have the time to up them. Since then some time passed and I took more and more shots so I decided to put up a grow journal although the grow is already over so it's more like a grow report. This was my first outdoor grow after 6 years (grew some 2-3 times back then) so there were many mistakes involved and I'd call it a fail but I harvested! ..and that's what counts. I started with: • 5x Aurora Indica fem by Nirvana Seeds • 5x Urban Poison fem by Nirvana Seeds • ( 10x freebies) I treated the seeds with wet towel method, all seeds germinated except 3 AI that I watered too much (I had to leave them for one week and overestimated their water needs) and they rotted. Although, I did it way too early as it turned out later on. Seedlings were extremely weak with long long stems, laying on the ground, it was pain looking at them, I had to provide them with support. They were on the window and the sun wasn't that strong back then so that's why this happened. I moved some of the freebies and all UP outside on the spot, the rest under 250W HPS in a tiny closet, where they recovered. When the 9 plants started to run out of space, I planted 6 of them outside at a different spot, leaving 2 freebies and 1 AI indoors. As it was my very first attempt at indoor growing, I left them on veg phase for too long and had problems with insufficient space and light burn was a threat since some of them were almost touching the light (which couldn't go any higher). The freebies turned out to be some crazy sativa-dominant plants that filled the closet with long branches and very small buds. Also, I apparently gave them too small pot because I could observe the signs of unhappy root system, as I've seen it a couple of times before when I was late on re-potting. The plants were suffering severe heat stress and combined with the small pots they didn't seem to want to finish so I harvested them early to stop their suffering. The freebies' harvest isn't worth mentioning and the AI yielded something between 20-25g. Meanwhile, in the outdoor garden, 2 out of 5 UP got killed by deer. They pulled them out of the ground and I haven't found them. The remaining 3 were laying all around the spot, so I collected them and replanted again (I was lucky it was raining all week long so they didn't dry out laying on the ground with bare roots). Turns out that this spot was way too guerrilla and while nobody could see anything from anywhere, the Sun couldn't see the plants either. So I took 2 of the 3 remaining UP and planted them elsewhere on a sunny side of the hill which turned out to be the best spot of all. The soil there was very heavy and clayey. The plants were stuck. I guessed the roots had no oxygen and that's why they refused to grow. I took the plants out of the soil again, put some regular peat-based light substrate into the holes and planted again. Within the next week one of the plants got murdered by the bloodthirsty deer. Luckily, they didn't see the other one. Next week the plant finally started to grow at a rather rapid rate. Somewhere around this time the 3rd UP that was left at the original spot got pulled by the deer too. There was only one freebie left at that spot, which turned male later on so only 1 UP remained from the whole batch. It grew and flowered very nicely despite the low quality soil, in the final phase of flowering it got mold but only a tiny bit, not more than 5% of the flowers were infested. Not gonna say more about it, you'll see it in the pictures. On the other spot with 5 freebies and 1 AI, 3 of the freebies turned male. The rest didn't want to flower at the end of September. I think this was caused by the strange freebie genetics + over-fertilization with N + too early planting. They all grew around 3m but nothing of them. AI did flower, but with rather small buds. I think AI is not good with colder climates such as mine, also as the year came closer to its end, the sun went lower and this spot didn't get enough light in the part of the life cycle where the plants needed it the most. The soil was rather dead, the root system wasn't as rich so the plants were often bending down to the ground which happened to the AI when I wasn't around and this resulted into her getting attacked by mold. I was able to save like 70-80% of the flowers to it wasn't that bad. More in pictures. The lesson learned from this grow: NEVER DO A FREEBIE AGAIN. 2.
  3. Hi Everybody, I'm doing my annual grow outdoors organically here in the UK, and now I am a member of this forum I can share some of the stages with you up to date. I found this seed in the top of an old grinder that I found in the cupboard, so I really didn't have a clue what kind of genetics it was, but I'm sure I would have kept it in there if it was a really nice smoke, when i get them I usually chuck them. I germinated the seed back in July just to give it a shot and see how it went as i hadn't purchased any seeds like I usually do. So i potted the seed into some nice soil, and a few days later it emerged out the top, with the seed case still intact around it which I thought was a bit odd. It started to sprout up nicely and was looking healthy. After a good few weeks it began to look rather Sativa like, and about two months later started to shoot white pistils so it was good news. And now it has really started to flower up with some nice white clumps of pistils and the leaves are starting to turn very frosty. Its got purple lines on the lower half of the plant so maybe it will have some nice purple nuggets forming. I'm rather excited to see what this one turns out like! I'm suprised, it looks like a hot climate plant and the UK certainly isn't the best for that. I hope that it will finish flowering at the end of October/Start of November, so my fingers are crossed for the next few weeks. Sorry some of the pictures are in Thumbnail form, don't know what went on there. I'll ad some more pictures up over the course of the next few weeks.

  6. Hi guys how are you? Well, I just want to share some pictures with you, since it make me really happy to be able to grow plants again after almost 3 years of forced layoff. The last time I grew outdoors my plants were taken away by the guardia civil in Spain and it took me more than 2 and half years to finnish with the issue. Off course 100% acquitted. Well, that´s it, I´m finally back and by the way it was almost 10 years that I grew plants in argentina the last time. The pictures are really shitty due to the fact that nor the camera or the cameraman are good. LOL GWS: 35 LTS. 8. 9. Growing cannabis outdoors "Growing cannabis outdoors has been mans traditional method of growing his favourite recreational and medicinal herb for thousands of years. Nature has provided cannabis with the adaptations and hardiness needed to grow in many regions. Specialist selective breeding by the more professional seed suppliers has produced some truly outstanding varieties that will produce excellent ganja in non-tropical northern European climates and even thousands of metres above sea level. For those growers that don’t wish to grow indoors or in greenhouses, outdoor growing is a great and easy way to produce your stash. Growing cannabis outdoors with good quality seed not only gives amazingly powerful weed but it also produces some of the best tasting weed with deep flavours and rich aromas. The outdoor grower typically grows from April/May to October in the northern hemisphere. Outdoor growers often germinate the seeds indoors and give their plants a headstart by growing them indoors under lights for a few weeks. These plants are often gradually acclimatised to outdoor temperatures before being permanently planted outside as established plants in time for the summer. It's also possible to start growing cannabis outdoors in the beginning of April, the first weeks under a piece of glass or in a greenhouse. The yield per female plant is between 100 and 400 grams for the different strains. Most of the plants have yields in between. Yields are especially dependent on sowing time, nutrition, and sunlight. All "indoor" and "outdoor" varieties can be grown outdoors in more Southern latitudes. For this reason, the harvest time under natural light is also given for all the "indoor" varieties. Greenhouse varieties and Indoor varieties can be grown outdoors in Central and Southern Europe with very good results. In more Northern latitudes (Scandinavia) only the outdoor varieties that are harvested early can be grown outdoors. Most "outdoor" varieties cannot be grown indoors, unless mentioned in this catalog. One of the most important factors for the outdoor grower is to correctly prepare the site. The ideal grow site should get unrestricted sun for as much of the day as possible. Protection from strong winds will also shield your crop. A grow site will often benefit from shelter; a small earth bank, a fallen tree stem or thick bushes can not only protect the plant from prevailing winds but it may also protect the plant from animals and unwelcome human attention. Having a close source of water, such as a nearby stream can make it easy to get water to your crop during hot weather. Many outdoor growers will use organic fertilisers such as bat guano, worm castings, bloodmeal, bonemeal etc to improve soil condition before the grow starts, perhaps digging in plenty of compost as well. More proficient outdoor growers will test the soil when preparing the site and fertilise it accordingly. Professional soil testing kits can be bought from garden centres which will indicate the soil type, the pH and factors such as sand content, loam and clay content etc. There is no ‘perfect’ soil for growing in and different varieties will often perform well in a range of conditions so long as nutrients are present, drainage is good and pH is within 5.8-6.5. For some people, outdoor growing means a secure and private part of their back garden or even a balcony. In some parts of the world this is too risky, so growers will choose a private and often remote spot in the countryside where they can grow. Internet maps or local knowledge can be used to find private sun-facing locations. Some growers prefer the seclusion of high altitude mountains for complete peace-of-mind and security. A new technique is to grow cannabis plants in large soil-filled sacks that have been hoisted into the tree canopy. This technique allows growers to choose locations that may be closer to home since the plants are completely invisible to people passing nearby. Yet plants grown in this way benefit from all-day sunlight and can be grown relatively close to cities and villages without raising suspicion. Just make sure that the sack is securely fixed in place. Those lucky enough to live in a Mediterranean climate with a private sun terrace are ideally placed for convenient outdoor growing. Those growing outdoors on their own land will be able to ensure that the plants receive the water and nutrients that they need and should be guaranteed the very best results assuming they originally invested in quality seed stock. Those growing on their own land may have the option of growing the plants in plant pots or rooting them directly into the soil. Plant pots have the advantage of being portable but may need regular watering in hot weather. The experienced grower will often avoid ‘black’ plant containers which get very hot in direct sunlight. They will also avoid putting plant pots directly onto a hot surface (e.g. tiled terrace) which will stress the roots. Those growing plants rooted directly into the soil will often get the best growth and yield so long as the soil is in good condition and the spot receives good sunlight! Those growing outdoors may not always be able to visit the plants regularly so a grow spot has to be chosen which is private, sunny and with some protection from animals such as rabbits and deer that will happily munch the plants if not kept away. Some growers surround their secret grow spot with branches and undergrowth to conceal the crop and deter grazing animals. Other growers deliberately plant thorny plants (blackberry plants etc) around their grow area to provide lasting and effective protection. This technique usually involves systematically surrounding the grow patch with a thick, tall and impenetrable barrier to humans and animals. When done properly there is absolutely no way that anyone could guess cannabis plants are growing nearby. Often the only way into the centre of such a grow is by crawling along the ground through a single secure route that can be easily covered and hidden. Visits to the grow spot will often involve checking the plants for pests and treating them accordingly. In dry weather water may need bringing to the plants. Some outdoor growers transport the original soil to the grow site, often it will have been pre-enriched with e.g. worm castings and perhaps water absorbent gel crystals will have been added. Water absorbent gel crystals can be bought in many garden centres and absorb excess moisture swelling into large water retaining gel particles. These then slowly release the water during dryer times. They allow plants to thrive with additional water reserves for their roots even in drought conditions. When growing cannabis outdoors think carefully about the variety. Not all strains are suited to outdoors, so read the reviews carefully and choose a good seed supplier. The best outdoor strains were often developed over a period of several years, selectively breeding those offspring that displayed the best suitability to outdoor conditions as well as retaining premium potency levels. This is a full time job that requires an expert ability not just to create premium outdoor strains but also to stabilise them. Sometimes the hardest part of outdoor growing is selecting the right location and preparing it for the cannabis plants/seeds. Often the outdoor grower will have several different grow locations and accepts that losing the occasional plant is an occupational hazard. Once the spot is ready it will often be used for many years of harvesting by the outdoor cannabis grower. Outdoor growing is challenging but fun, it may require ingenious thinking and professional preparation but when done correctly the outdoor grower can experience the thrill and satisfaction from harvesting all his herbal supplies free of charge, the way nature intended." I highlighted what I tought best, after a few outdoors I'm into... source: http://www.dutch-pas...nabis-outdoors/ Take care
  10. A project I have spent 2 years on, this is 3rd generation. This is the most uniform and the keeper for the next and final cross back with original C Q male. Flowering began early July. Aiming for harvest between 7th-21st September. It will be a seed harvest rather than sensi. Next year I am going to grow the seeds from this and hopefully have a stable outdoor skunk for uk growers FINALLY. Who knows, perhaps available to the masses in a year, let's see. Enjoy the ride. Il keep checking back to answer questions and mingle. Peace. X
  11. Hello everybody! Long-time grower and activist, former MMJ dispensary owner. I've been growing indoors and outdoors since I was 15... in my 30s now. I have definitely done my part to legalize cannabis here in Colorado but got burned-out by the greedy politicians trying to make money off medicine. Now it's legal for recreational use and I don't mind the taxes on this as much as I did having to tax the sick and disabled. I've been off the radar for a couple years now... this summer I will be growing ........ .. ...... .... . Looking for some local help with genetics since Greenhouse Seeds won't ship to the U.S.. Interested in auto-flowers but skeptical because they sound too good to be true. Since I am at about 2200m above sea level I am looking for some Afghani strains so I can harvest before the snows in October. Would like to connect with other growers in the Pikes Peak area.
  12. hey everyone, i watched the grow sessions by Arjan and Franco and apart of being great and very informative the made me question how come outdoor yield (in most strains) is much bigger than indoor's? at the grow session u can see the huge differences between hydroponics and soil . the hydro ladies grow much vigorously and the yield was significantly larger compared to the soil beauties. if so, it seems like a plant that grows outside should give me the same yield as the one grown indoor in soil .. right? well.. i suspect the answer is not right tho.. because everyone knows that outdoor yield is almost always bigger than indoor's.. depending on the strain of course. so is it the sun light that does the magic ? the longer veg stage ? maybe both? an explanation would be appreciated. thank's alot
  13. hola les presento desde uruguay mis dos nenas, están empezando la primer semana de flora
  14. Hey guys, welcome to my grow journal for the Outdoor World Cup! Originally i thought about starting this journal after my seeds arrived. But they are not here yet and it is June/15. I ordered the free kit with power feeding. So I do not know yet which strain i am going to get. But i can give you already some information about the equipment i will use for the seedlings and early vegetative phase indoor. Lets start with the room. My tent from Grow Lab is called GL 100. It has an area of 1 square meter (100cmx100cm) and is 2 meters tall. Inside there is a reflective foil everywhere. You have a lot of holes for you your air and water tubes or for cables. From the outside it is black and it offers you two windows to watch your plants while the tent is closed. Like that you can make sure that your air circulation stays as usual. The air circulation is made by a System Air RKV 200E2-A1 LTI as outtake that has about 770 m³/h. For the intake there is a small axial fan. The System Air fan is connected to a cooltube reflector called Sputnik. I have the large one with a 150mm connector. This reflector is really awesome. It is cool and really big. The surface is covered with a nice reflective material. Compared to other reflectors the Sputnik offers the most light in the middle of the reflector. It has the perfect size for 1 m². The reflector is already a nice tool to keep the temperature low. But for the perfect adjustment I use a G SE Fan Controller that offers me to the fan speed, the temperature, the humidity and the negative pressure. The intake fan as well as the outtake fan are connected to it. The electrical power for the light inside the reflector comes from a Lumatek ballast. The Lumatek is one of the new generation ballasts that are more efficient and allow you to change the W. In my case i can switch between 400W, 400W SL, 600W and 600 W SL. SL means Super Lumen and should increase the power by 10%. So it is 400W, 440W, 600W, 660W. The ballast will run a 400W MH light with 440W/400W LS. The soil i use is called BioBizz Light Mix. Allright! That´s my setup! Now I have to wait for the seeds! As soon as they arrive i will start germinating them. And ofcourse i will take pictures and use them in my next update for you guys! 16.
  17. This is / was my first grow. (Pictures are in REVERSE ORDER) I received my Northern Lights #5 from a local dispensary around the 4th of July 2012. I knew it would be hard to get a good crop from 2 plants in such a short time but I decided to give it a go anyway. I let the plants go until October and only added white LED to keep it at 12/12 light and to stay warm. I grew a single stalk on each plant and attempted to take a few clones, none of which survived (The clones pictured are new and rooting just fine). After the grow was complete, I dried my flowers in a Cedar lined closet. I left the secondary bud on my main plant and cut 90% of the bud off the top, the last 10% I attempted to re-vegetate in 18/6 LED. It worked.

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
