hey everyone, ive read alot about l.e.d grow lights and peoples l.e.d setups and just wondered what the best manufacturer was.

you see alot of them cheap pannels on sale and i would never buy them id rather buy into something good as im interested in doing a little closet l.e.d grow for fun as i have the space.

i have one l.e.d truncheon its a 150w red i bought just as an added extra to put around the bottoms of the plants on leafy indicas

does anyone know if this is a good name in the l.e.d world i just bought it on a whim really then

read theirs alot of stuff thats not even gonna penetrate the plants as the leds are made cheaply

i may be running this and it does nothing ive never gone without it really so havent seen the difference

Hey Nutes

LED lights is a subject i have taken a lot of interest in and is something i have personally researched.

I have placed the following lights companies in order of my personal prefence

4 http://www.prosourceworldwide.com/ - Make the UFO range (these are the real deal UFO not cheap knock offs)

The Hydrogro "Penetrator X Pro" lights are very highly thought of and have been proven to produce good results. This what I am personally going to buy. Quality isn't cheap but they are the market leaders when it comes new inovation. A good number of grows on other forums, with good weights and smokes.The Penetrator X Pro range uses a secondary lens which refocuses the light and produces better depth penetration of the light.

Magnum 357 A good light with lots of proven results, there are many grows on many different forums producing a good quality smoke.

EVO fairly new to the scene but using high Wattage LED's This is what our Mr X uses and he has reported on ICMAG that he has achieved 2.4 grams per watt with them. That a high yeild per watt even when it comes to HID! Though there has been discusions about the LED driver (quite a technical discusion on ICMAG forums which were a bit beyond me), the LED's nearest to the power source are brighter than the ones at the furthest point away from the power source. Something i hope EVO will rectify in the future.EVO offer 60 and 90 degree convex lenses. Which i am guessing do the same job as the refocusing lenses in the "Penetrator X PRO".

Prosource 90W &180W UFO LED these are good LED lights and not the cheap imitations from china. A reputable company with a good product. These are the real deal UFO lights with good results on other forums.

As for your inqirery about Kessil LED lights it seems that they make single colour LED lights which would seem that they are to be used for supplemental lighting ie used inconjunction with HID's etc. Here is a review for you http://ledgrowlights.../kessil-review/

When buying a LED grow light it is important to note that the wattage shown is not alway the wattage drawn. The reason is if you power an LED at it's actuall Wattage rating the life is shortened and will fail earlier, so they are often powered at three quaters to a half the stated wattage so to have a long life and not fail. Some companies do state actual draw. I have provided links to show actual power drawn.There is a lot of reading that can be done, some of which i will try to compile when work allows (I'm very busy at the moment).

Try to check out as many LED grows here and other forums as you can, proof is in the pudding.

LED lights are generally better used by small grows at the moment but as tecnology improves and price drops i think larger set ups will start to use them.

From moment I bought 3 computers, the price was special for the purchase in a joint purchase, think of around € 180 one but I think the purchase of three coming out on the 160 €, I really do not know but I think in site offers prices.

No, actually the international price is cheaper, I've put in the link.

And yes, the LED is expensive, but we'll come cheap with all that you save with light, there is not a system for paying a little and save from day one, but with the 2-year duration of the warranty, you lamps are free.

yeah i will have to do a calcul some day to see how long it would take to get in budget. but for that i would need to know the exact consomation of the leds and of my actual lamps, just thinking of it makes me tired lol, but will have to do it someday, anyway for the moment it's more a money question than a willing problem ;)

I have gone to the Onviled web site and i see there are 7 lenses. So i imagine they are using star chips with 3 LED's per chip.

I have included a picture of what a 3 LED star chip looks like. In the centre of the chip are 3 LED's packed in close together.

So it seems that each light is made up of 3 LED's per chip @ 2Watts per chip x 7 lenses = 42 Watts per lamp.

Can you tell me what the actual draw is per lamp?

LED Lights do not draw the same amount of power as the total wattage of the LED's.

The reason for this is, that if an Led is used at full capacity it will get hot and the life span is drastically shortend and so will burn out quickly.

This is a contentious issue in the LED industry and now manufactures are stating to state actual watts drawn.

I would imagine that although each light is stated @ 42 Watts it probably is drawing something like 35W.

Taking my asumption @ 35W x 8 (the number of lights i counted in your picture) total Wattage output would be apporx 280 Watts.

Well done, some excellent buds to be proud of.

My only complaint would be the manufacturers need to tidy the electical leads up to make it a real class product.

I am wondering what the bits sticking out of the leads are ( they look like microphones, lol).

I am guessing they are on/off power switches.

If they are i would say they have no place on these lights as they are controlled by a timer ion grow room situation.

Would it be possible to supply the size of your grow room and the actual watts drawn per light (if possible) along with finished dry weight.The information will really help show how they compare to other LED lights.

Apart from the messy wires, I am really impress by these LED lights and as you say they can be raised or lowered for individual plants which is very cool.

I like that fact that if you buy multiple light they give you a disscount.

Thank you for sharing and bringing these lights to our attention, I had not seen this make before.

Although I wouldn't buy a dog and bark myself.

If someone wants me to buy thier product, I want it plug and play with no messing about.

I am a firm believer in buying the best i can and will pay that little bit extra for a quality product.

Just with a little effort these lights could look alot nicer, when i look at them and all those wires all over the place i think "slackers", which doesn't instill in me any confidence that this is a company that pays attention to detail.Attention to detail is the cornerstone of quality, everything in it's place, correctly assembled and using quality parts.

I hope they sort it out because they grew some nice buds.

The assembly is not a star, is an aluminum disk PBC.

There are cables, but as you can work without wires? or you can configure each independent group without wires? Opposite is a light compact because the compact lights draw little flowers on the sides.

Power consumption is 42W and 40W comes to chips, there is always a little lost, is never 100%, for example, the hps is a loss of about 50W in ballast(450w total).

An LED is also provided a greater margin of labor, ie, if the recommended maximum is 350mA, 375mA can work well, but it is best not to over-350mA.

Ovniled have those up.

Other teams in the market, for example, when you measure UFO 90W consumption is approximately 73W, and part of this consumption is by fans, other part is lost by the driver to arrive led perhaps about 60W.

It may seem a bit ridiculous the system, but the design is based on efficiency and configurability, it could make a pretty design and very functional. ovniled not use fans, is more expensive to cast and machined aluminum, but more efficient, all electric power is for the LED.

One could do without cables, just a nice light, but it would be impossible to regulate the height of each LED independently.

That you see in the cables, a fuse, but with the new systems no longer need, because they are connected in series, if parallel, you need a fuse because the failure of an LED, derives all power to the other groups.

In the pictures see 8 groups, surely 9 groups (3 lamps), then, 14w per group, 14x9=126W

Each lamp have 3 groups and 42w really, 14w each grup, 3 lamps have 126w and 9 groups.

Let me start again.

on the pcb will be 7 locations where a 3 led chip will be soldered. These chips are called star chips because they look abit like stars. This picture at the bottom of the page shows what a star chip looks like, in the centre are the LED's in this case 6. If you have 3 LED's on each chip @ 2 watts per LED, the chip will have 6watts of LED's. 6watts at 7 locations, one in the middle and six in a circle around it.This is the same configuration as the lenses.

so i sumise that 3 LED's per chip = 6Watts per chip x 7 locations = 42watts (3x2=6x7=42). I could be wrong and there could be 21 LED's in clusters of 3 at 7 locations = 42watts.When you look at the light, pictured at the bottom of the screen you can clearly see 7 lenses.

I realise that these are soild state lights with passive cooling through the fins so no additional power is needed for cooling by fans.

I like the design, no problems with the light at all, just the messy wires.The individual wires could be in a plasic cover like the one goint to your tv, especially as the fuse is no longer needed.

When i was refering to 8 lamps that was in the grow room picture. I calculated that 8 lamps(units) @ 42wats per unit = 336w. I then assumed that because LED's that use permenent draw and so for run at less than full potential, due to the fact that the life would be greatly reduced and would cause early burn out.

I in fact really like the look of these lights and in no way was i disparaging about them , except for the messy wires.

I only asked for more detail so i would have all the facts

I thank you for bringing these light to my attention.

I am always interested in seeing new LED's as a consumer i need to know as much about every light i see from different companies so i can acurately compare them.

This are lights from lightmaxx. I think this is the best and cheapest way to use LED now.

Some lights are active cooled and some passive. You can change the color over the buttons at the back of the can or over DMX (full power)

How you can see its pretty bright (if you look into it you see stars for a while ;))

Want to grow with them but i dont got the time.

I think the most interesting are the RGBW 8W.

The price is unbeatable for this power so have a look and try if you want.

Hi welcome on the forum, good tip there, we would need to know if those spectrum are suitable to indoor growing, and see the power used too cause most of the time those kind of light ain't really cheap to use, perhaps now they are with the led technology tho ^^

But theoricaly i'd say it's a good idea ^^

the question is what is the best Spectrum ? They got RGB (RedGreenBlue) and RGBW(RedGreenBlueWhite).

The power usage is between 30W

depends on the light you'll take and the money you'll spend.

I phoned with a guy of the Company and he dont got the Data of the LED-chips.

So i found a discription at wikipedia

In the Shops the most rgb chips got red ca. 624nm, green ca. 515nm, blue ca. 470nm but i dont know if this are the right data.

But i think if you use a RGBW light it must be nearly the full spectrum.
