Too many plants?

20 posts in this topic

Hello fellow growers, I'm currently flowering 12 Neville's Haze plant under a 600 hps in 3 gal pots. I have a CAP XXXtreme 8 reflector thats measures about 43 x 30 inches. I figured it could cover a space of 6 x 8 feet due to its large dimensions, that's giving each plant a 2x2 ft space.

My question is, does it have enough space for each to grow healthy or will they get cramped up? Should I have went with 9 plants or less? Does this affect yield? I was expecting at least 2 oz per plant.

When I put them to flower they were about 3 ft tall with a width of about 18 inches. I'm using the FULL line of Fox Farm nutrients with Humbolt County's Bushmaster, Snow Storm, Purple Max, and Gravity.

I have done "learning stages" grows before, I learned alot from my mistakes, and I feel like I got it right this time. I just think I over did it a bit. Any advice for my future grows and the one I'm currently in? Thanks for any input.

Do you know more or less the Metric values of your room?

Normally 600w hps, is the best for let's say 1m². 1mx1mx2m, but it is also efficient in 1,20m rooms, and in those 1,20m rooms you can put more or less 12 plants so i guess it must be what you have ^^

So yes 600w for 12 plant, is a fair setup, the best would be a little 200w extra and you would be top of the notch ;)

Thanks for the reply Dust, sorry for the confusion. I'll rewrite it in metric.

Hello fellow growers, I'm currently flowering 12 Neville's Haze plant under a 600 hps in 12 liter pots. I have a CAP XXXtreme 8 reflector thats measures about 1 x 0.76 meters. I figured it could cover a space of 1.8 x 2.4 meters due to its large dimensions, that's giving each plant a 0.6 x 0.6 meter space.

My question is, does it have enough space for each to grow healthy or will they get cramped up? Should I have went with 9 plants or less? Does this affect yield? I was expecting at least 2 oz per plant.

When I put them to flower they were about 1 meter tall with a width of about 45 centimeters.

I think it should be alright. They're hazes so they're more likely to stretch upward than really "bushing" on the side so to say. Be worried of the final height rather than the size per plant i believe.

Again i dont know much people will give you better answer.

For my next grow i plan on vegging one plant for three month using a lst method and then i'll put 1 or 2 other babies i'll have vegged for 3/4 weeks in a 1m² tent.

I would go up to 6 maybe 8 plants if you dont veg them to much (1/3 weeks) for 1m² 4 or less if you go over 4 weeks veg but again it depend on the strain, the cheese killed me in sog but they could be arrange in a nice scrog i'm sure, the kushes were perfect for sog, the trainwreck can be lst'ed nicely etc...

I've never had any haze (except for the moby dick but she doesnt seems to grow like the A haze according to the grow video) so i couldnt really say about them...

Peace!

Thanks a lot for the metric version man, wasn't asking for so much but it's perfect like that ;)

So if iunderstood right you are using 1,8x2,4m of your 3x3m room with 1 600HPS?

If that is so, i would suggest to try to close your 3x3 room in like 2x2 and you would have a better use of your light i think.. but i don't have such big rooms so can't say it's 100% sure cause i haven't tested ^^

Like Ghost said, hazes should grow to wide, more in height, so i think they would feet in 2x2.. try to imagine it in your room and tell me if it sounds good ^^

Good luck ;)

Thanks for the comment GhostdoG, I'm definitely less worried now, next time I'll put 9 plants under the light to be on the safe side but we'll see how it goes. I'm probably going to do a kush type next time because it takes too long to flower haze. I'll post back in a couple months with a grow report to show how it went.

Thanks again Ghost and Dust, and good luck with your future grows.

Cheers man, best of luck to you too, those long time flowering plants often worth the wait ;) (In general most strain i'm interested in need at least 9 weeks...so if you have a plant or two that goes up to 12 in the tent you won regret it, i'm really tempted to grow some hawaiaan snow she's amazing! hehe)

Peace!

It is okay to start with 12 plants. You can get the same yield with 4 plants and big pots and large elbowroom - there is no definitive answer to your question as you can see. If you manage to grow the Haze with an even canopy 6 or 8 plants might get enough air around the stems/roots - 12 I doubt it..So just go ahead and keep them as long as they outgrow the pots. They might stretch like crazy in bigger pots;more than 2 gallon pots per plant is too much.but I really don't know - haven't tried it out ..Best try a Scrog or something else that keeps them from stretching out. Good luck

I had started with 6 or 8 and pick the best 4, 5 or 6...

so true ! 12 on 1,20 is 10 centimeters per plant - no idea if that works...

lol bam stoner, you don't grow in 1,20x 20 room usually ;)

In 1,20x1,20 you'll put 4x3 pots raw, that makes 40cm by plant more or less ;)

And i think he gots a room of 3x3 so the 12 plants should be fine, it's only th lights i'm worried a little about, but still they will make it with 600w, just not at their maximum yeild maybe.

He got 3 by 3 meters ? That is a different story altogether - I just fight cramming 3 large ones and a mediocre big and the AB on stands plus a small Arjan Haze 3 in a round 1 gallon pot in my grow room and that is not small but problem is not broad enough.for 2 plants from front to back, works only sideways.... results in narrow clad stems - Took out the JACK last night and loosened up the branches and the plant looked twice as large easily - nice one with a sweet sensi smell - Wicked !!!

So next time it is 3 big plants - not more for flowering !

No, a single 600 W hps will NOT be enough for 12 x 3 ft plants at all. Especially if there mostly sativa. No matter what kind of reflector you have a 600W will barely do a 4ft x 4ft area and your plants are already 3 ft high so everything more than a foot away will not receive enough light. Trim your bottoms all the way up to the main colas and ditch half your plants outside or grab a second light. If you squish all these plants together you will be at risk for mold, only producing a bunch of scraggle and jungle mess.

You'd be better off with two plants topped and trained.

im with j. a 600w only can do about 4x4 ft of canopy. at 2x2 each, 4 plants is max. i use 2 x 600w and i do 6 plants in a 6 x 4ft canopy.

Hi guys, everything seems to be going ok with the neville's, except for the heat. It's in week 8 so far, i guess i have another 6-8 weeks to go. I will be getting another light in the next week, so I will finish off with 6 plant under each light, I will report back when everything is finished to show everyone how things went.

As for my next grow, I was thinking of putting 5 or 6 plants under each light in a 1,2m x 1,2m. My question is what size pots should I use a 7 gallon (26 liter) pot or a 10 gallon (37 liter) pot or bigger? Should I still expect the same yield?

U can afford same yeld or even bigger or less, depends what are your goals in grow except the final one, nice own smoke. Consider toping, lst or even scorg to get max from your plants. Be well!

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
