90w led grow

9 posts in this topic

Hello SH family, I am currently doing a small CFL closet grow. I have 6 13w CFL bulbs over head and two 24" tubes to provide some side lighting. But it does not seem to be giving my ladies enough light, so I was wondering if replacing the over head with a 90 watt led light may provide better results? Had anyone experienced with them before? I know a HPS would be the best way, but due to power restrictions it's not a option at this time. Thanks in advance!

Yeah like tok said it will probably a little bit stretchy, but with leds and cfl you can keep very close, so keep them as close as possible, move them daily if needed, and you should handle that ;)

It will also depends on the LED panel you will take, some will be working better than others, but i can't say which ones ^^ We do have a few posts on LED and on how to buy a Good LED panel.

Good luck man

I have grown with a 5 band (robw) 90w ufo led. I myself could not afford the equipment nor the electricity. I loved the way the led vegged. My blue cheese would have super fat fan leaves. In fact I had some candy Kush that the spectrum actually started turning the underside of the leaves purple. I could never get my plants to yield properly during flowering. Definitely use both the fluorescence and the LED. If possible add a 250 watt HPS in the flowering chamber. I run a perpetual harvest so my setup is a little different. Keep the LED about 8 to 12 inches away from the tops. Keep them short and spread them out,by that I mean open up the center of your plant. Tie the sides down a bit. Pack as many as you can fit in there and hope for the best. I gotta say though. I recently upgraded to a 600 hps air-hcooled, thanks to the weed gods and good friends. And the difference is striking at least double what I was able to get with the led. Look for a 250 watt or a 400 watt HPS just for flowering and it should give you nice bang for buck! Hope it helps.

the pictures made me think that you should start from scratch again, 5th week of flowering? don't bother wasting anymore time. I can not see you getting anything worth while form those plants in the pictures. The fan leaves are all gone and yellowed off, I can not tell if they are going to survive the next week or not. So start again you will be better off.

Get an LED if you have to but make sure its a full spectrum so you got both veg and flower covered. Again as some of the others have said, go get a 250w - 400w hid HPS ballast and bulb. If you can not afford it then get 2 - 90w LED. Together you will be fine.

If you are flowering now in those pictures then again I would just start over. They are not going to produce now. So sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Good luck

If you continue that harvest I can't see more than an ounce coming out of all of those plants combined. At this point you have come so far in terms of time that I would just bite the bullet and finish the plants for the sake of pride, but next time consider getting a HPS bulb for flowering. LED does work, but the price of a decent flowering LED with enough power not to stretch the plants would be quite high. Spending even 150 dollars CAD will give you a HPS bulb and fixture as well as giving you MASSIVE yield in comparison to what you are getting there.

Also, if you are worried about power, consider that a 400W bulb would cost you only about 4 cents/h to run even in countries with extremely high prices on electricity. During flowering this would only cost you 48 cents a day...is this too much? Even on a 70 day plant this is a total cost of less than $34.00, which is actually less than the average price of a 5 pack of seeds lol.

The one benefit of an LED however is that you don't get the massive heat output that comes from HPS bulbs. This is extremely useful if you are using a grow box or stealth box, but you seem to have plenty of space for an HPS setup. If you have any questions about any of this feel free to ask as i'm always willing to help.

Thanks for the replies guys!! I did go ahead and finish out the grow with these. I got a whopping 3 grams!! Haha, it was a nice little joint. I have definitely learned from that grow and I'm currently waiting to gather up the gear and give it another run. Building a motorcycle has taken over my priorty list and my wallet at the moment. Again thanks for all the tips and advice. I will defiantly be getting more knowledgable input on this next go so I don't waste time and resources.

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
