Re-legalisation Petition in South Africa

There is currently a large movement in South Africa to re-legalize marijuana (also known as Dagga in SA) for all purposes (personal, medical and industrial). The two main parties involved are NormlZA and the Dagga Couple.

The Dagga Couple has started a process in the Constitutional Court (highest court in SA) and will have a hearing in the next 2 years (if everything goes according to plan). After that the parliament has to be convinced to bring in the necessary changes in law and regulation.

For this we need as many “signatures” as possible. The main focus is on South African citizens, but being backed by a large international audience will only work in our favour.

We are holding Hope for them although the government here is unlikely to change its policies - considering that it is a traditional plant here and it is persecuted as hard here as anywhere else. You would imagine that with a cultural inheritance of using this plant there would be some leniency - unfortuneatly not.

It seems about normal in this country for it to take about two years or more before a matter is escalated to the constitutional court

Yes, everything is a bit slow in SA. But they might even drag it out longer (becuase it's weed).

Meanwhile they will fast track the development of the state presidents new home at an exorbitant cost to the tax payer and then classify the whole thing as a 'state secret'

Things are changing slowly but surely. Today was a smoke off petition( ? ) in Johannesburg and 21 Sept there will be a cannabis march in Cape Town. Can't wait to join in on that 1.

I am willing to wait a few years for the government to eventuall wake up from their lazy bo chairs and start seeing what this plant can do for our country.

And when that day comes........

Two years later and we still we're we where afew years ago. S.A sucks funny enough cops in cape town are more likely to arrest you for weed then beating your wife and kids, the sad reality
