lumen vs heat

Recommended Posts

what might be better ,

having a higher lumen but therefore more heat in the room.

or a lower lumen and lower heat in the room?

what is more important for a good harvest?

lumen or heat?

I would say High Lumen for high yield and then fix the problem with the heat in another way...

Under hps, max usable concentration of light is between 5000 lux/lumens & 7000 lux lumens.

Optimal temps fo cannabis are 270C - 300C, below 210C too cold, over 350C to hot.

Using higher concentations of CO2 higher temps , and greater the concentration of light, can be tollerated.

If you can keep the temps within the acceptable range, using adequate extraction, cool tubes or air conditioning then use as many lumens that can be usefully used by the plant.

You can also use lights that produce less heat such as LED lights

yeah like the guys said it all depends ^^

If you tend to havez hot temperature in your place and know that you will have problem handling the temp, go for a "low temp system" but if you fon't have any major heat problem i would go for HID, at least for flowering, for your veg you can sure use T5, CFL or LED and let it in addition to the HID during flowering ;)

Good luck man

High Lumen output for max yielding ok fixing temps aint that big proplem by using a cooltube or a coolshade or simply fix a clip venti directly on the reflector....or just like in my case place the grow trent in a cold room...... i got a dr 60 and most say u cant run a 400 w hps innit without causin massive heat props, but ive managed it tent is in a cold non heated room and i got at lights on 23 degrees at the tent even without a cooltube. so as u can see if u aint got much basic heat in the room u can manage that heat prop very easy.

Hahah i do same trick, especially in winter. :)

thx m8s,

i thought the best temps are between 23-25°. Regulary i have between 25-27° (arround buds) at the roof top even 30°. As iam a perfectionist i wanted to eliminate those 30° at the rooftop cause i thought i could harm the plants in any way. But after reading the first link from lamsbread, seems to be all good.

Maybe the Grow Gurus came to a new conclusion over the last years. And 27-30° are respectable for a grow, as when the sun burns, the plant cant get away from the heat, outdoors. Sounds plausibel to me.

@Urbanninja, you know how it goes :) cold room, sophisticated ventilation and (sometimes cooltube, but i only use it if i have to, cause it minimizes the lumen:)

I for sure thought about those LED´s, but till now nothing really convinced me. As the infos are very less and there are still voices heard saying the yield is not comparable to a hsp. Guess i have to make a testgrow and come to my on conclusion.

thx so far and make the world green :)

well if you can avoid the 30° of course it is better for your plants, they will grow faster and better. But now there are lots of way to counter-act that heat, and like Lamsbread stated with CO2 you modifiy the plant's way of working so she allows higher temps. But it is not a "basic" interevention, do some reading about it if you choose to go for it ;)

Good luck man
