A question about hydroponics

11 posts in this topic

Hey everyone, I'm still learning the ropes of hydroponic gardening and was hoping to get some advice. I'm growing with an EB and FLO system and i need to set a timer to monitor how often water is fed through the medium. Dose anyone know how often i should set the intervals?

Thanks,

Sneeky

As Dust said there there will be others who can help.

It would be helpful to let us know what type of substrate you are using, each type of substrate has different qualities and water holding capacity ie coco vs. rockwool flake vs. clay pebbles etc.

This web site will be useful i'm sure and has an ebb and flo calculator for working it out. - http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/fourtwenty/articles/eftips.htm

Peace

expanded clay drains quiet fast.... I'd say 3-4 times in 24 hours depending on the stage... I'd also reccomend going aeroponic and skipping the grow medium all together for faster reslts.... an ideal watering time for maximum root growth would b 40 seconds of water followed by 100 seconds of air and repeat 24/7...

Aloha, The number of times the ebb flow bed is flooded per day and the length of the flood time is determined by the size of the pot, the size of the plant, and the nature of the growing substrate. The best way to get your system fine tuned is to see how much weight is gained after a flood cycle, and how much weight is lost per hours of light. As the plants grow they will use more nutrient solution in a shorter period of time.

I know some ebb and flow growers that run there pumps 30 minutes 3 times a day in hydronton(clay pellets). I've always ran my drip system in 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. I personally would flood more often in hydronton because it drains so well. The big rock wool cubes perhaps a bit less but still more than 3 times a day. Spangumoss and perlite I probably would flood maybe twice a day and maybe feed 2 days, and just water 1. It just all depends on what works for u.

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
