Infinite Vegetative Growth

So I heard from a usually reasonably credible source that if you leave a plant in vegetative growth, it can grow infinitely, or at least for a great deal longer than would naturally occur. I was wondering if anyone had ever pushed the envelope with this or if this notion is just total crap. I was thinking about it and it seems like the plant would get stringy and thinned out if this was done too long. Then again I could be totally wrong and it might actually work. I can only imagine a 100 foot plant grown inside some arena-sized facility lol...although I think a plant would need to be bred through many generations of this type of growth to adapt, as air density and pressure changes even over the course of a few meters.

Obviously it isn't optimal for big bud production because of the weight issue but I was just wondering from a purely hypothetical standpoint and was wondering if anyone had experience with unusually long veg periods (6 months+)

it is indeed possible, i know in some part of the world around the latitude they have in La Reunion, they have plants that will grow several years before flowering and beeing harvested, so i guess you can force it too, but i don't know in indoor what effect it would have, but look at the moma made for cloning they easily stay for 6 month in veg.

I have seen a picture on this forum don't remember where exactly of a gient cannabis Tree coming from india i think, it was old fields forgotten by the time and girls were still there growing naturally.

Anyway i think it should be possible!

well for cannabis you can keep it for a long time. But it wlil eventually get old. lack potency, and vigor, I would say usually in 7 years it starts to get affected, . But thats from my experience. Some people have clones for 20 years + 40 years is the longest I have seen or heard of. But this was from clones of clones of clones, etc. and making mother plants just holding onto a strain.

I've had a super skunk momma going for two years now. Just keep her small and use the bonsai technique. Can't bear to part with her so I'm definitely gonna try to self a few klones, as well as keep her going as long as she can. It's definitely possible but then again I root trim and trim her for staying small. Not sure what would happen if I flowered her but don't see why she wouldn't take off and go.

well i've heard, but only heard and it's not personal experience so don't know, that for momma after 6 month of life, the clone start to lose some vitality and could start "degrade" slowly, did you notice that yourself? maybe it is because you trimm her root too that you can manage to keep the vitality good

It must be because of the root trim. I just finished a cutting from her and it was even better than I had remembered. I don't grow her that often, cause the smell is so strong and there is no mistaking her scent. Haven't noticed any receding genetics. I'll let ya know though.

Makes sense actually. Just like humans I suppose, we start to lose vigor in our older age, I suppose I can start new moms. It's not gonna hurt anything I guess
