bozoph
About a year ago I came up with a way to use a standard digital timer to run an abstract 16/12 cycle. I did not had the time to implement a test , but now I do.Now here how it works The difference is in hours of sun per week (hpw)on a standard 12/12 cycle you get 84 hpw on a 16/12 you get 96 hpwThat is an extra days worth of sun in 1 week. over the coarse of a 8 week strain you gain over a weeks extra growthSo here we goI started with a 11l dish tub with holes in bottom.( fits in the grow cooler perfect) filled it with coco and perliteI threw super critical and a mk ultra clones in. Then into the mini grow cooler. Now to set timerMonday at noon onTuesday at 4 am offTuesday at 4 pm onWednesday at 8 am offWednesday at 8 pm onThursday at noon offThursday at midnight onFriday at 4 pm offSaturday at 4 am onSaturday at 8 pm offSunday at 8 am onSunday at midnight offNow we see if my cycle works

bozoph
i had a lengthy conversation with dkh about it. he seems to think this will just hermie from stress. i dont see a few extra hours of light stressing the plant out. i think its the night cycle that has to do with the triggering of hormonal changes.any thoughts? Dust
yes about the hormonal process causing the flowering i have read same as you, the light cicle is not really induced in the sexing, it is suppose to come from the 12 hours of night. And as you plan to stay on 12hours of night i don' see the plants stressing from a few hours more neither, unless the system is made for a 24h cycle, but i don't know if that kind of specificity can be contained in genetics.Would be nice to hav an expert opinion maybe John would know? Sizla
i am vary interrested in diffrent fotocycles so cant wait to see effect of that growthe most important Q qould be if its more about the hours of dark or hours of light influenting hormons , if its about darkness then it could be working just fine

URBANNINJA
So its gd to see im not the only open minded bout new techniques of light schedules......ill test the gas lamp schedule since my last run and it works perfect to get them the 10 on 14 off in flower. Buds formating earlier and resin production is at max n that Schedule...... nice to see whats going on with your light schedule cause it seems to be more natural cause in nature u aint have the same daylight each single day.....makes sense for me.....gd luckNinjah

Bam-Bhole
Plants love extra hours with lights on in late flowering; they also need their well deserved rest; so i can see this time schedule working IN BLOOM, I would not try it in VEG, though - but we'll see. Clones are different from seeds anyway.

newyorkfungi
I'm going to guess it worked out based on other information I've gathered. I've recently designed a system which is controlled by a home appliance networking program that has unlimited adjustable values for whatever variable you design. In addition, in my location, my outdoor BDS special clones begin to show flowering growth in the 1st week of August. That means the plant recognizes the cycle change in the last week of July when (according to my local news weather almanac) the photo period (sun rise to sun set) is actually 14H 41M (not including twilight). In addition, with a Latitude of 43.3, the photo period does not actually ever reach 12 h until 9/26. Again, I am collecting this information from a local weather station almanac however if sun rise is calculated by the sun breaching the horizon and the sun setting by it waning over the horizon, this leads me to believe the industry standard is a "safe zone". Now we should all know this will be different for different strains at different latitudes, however I also get a feeling the photo period can be pushed well under the 12 hour dark periods for many strains. I expect to take a slightly more modest approach on test run cycle with a photo period of 14 on and 11 off and see how things work out with several different strains varying from 100% Indica to 100% Sativa and also hybrids in between. Now, I understand I have no post count to speak of; however I've waited many years to contribute online until I grew confident I could hold my own carrying meaningful debates, and offer factual information discovered and proven in controlled environments. I'n conclusion, I hate being wrong so much I would rather not speak than chance embarrassing myself. You'll learn this in time. I'll report back when I have meaningful data to contribute on the matter. Cheers!
