There are more than half a dozen god coffeshops on Haarlemerstaat, Barneys and now Greenhouse , formerly Pink floyd being the biggest but I liked two especilly back in 94 when I stayed on Haarlemertraat for a few weeks in summer of 94. The first one was near the start of the straat run by morocons , pretty large square place with a Billiard table. The one I stayed the most , nice hang out and meeting place was the one on the opposite side of the street from greenhouse , more or less vis-a-vis from the big AMRO Bank at the plein. A few houses past the post office . It looks small from outside has a nice counter and you can go downstairs. Indian styled paintings on the wall, very nicely excuted.. If that shop is still open could someone please check up the name of it for me ?

Thanks

Exactly Dust, Only time I went downstairs I noticed that there were very nice paintings on the walls. Even photographed them, since they looked so beautiful. A cool hangout, moe like a bar feeling than your average smoke supplier....I checked streetview already but somehow it is not the same as walking the streets ; plus you see many windows with bars or coffeshops without knowing the name things get complicated, since it all looks pretty samey and you can't be sure - okay greenhouse is easy to find but if you not sure about the name streetview is not much of a help. Adresses are easy to find ..

well the one i'm thinking about is the popeye, it is about 20m away from GH on the opposite street side, white front with only windows, this popeye had a level a little lower than the entry with painting on the walls, and on the right were the bathroom really low i think i could not stant straight in it lolol

Cheers ;)

No ! I would have noticed. I have been in nearly each one besides Pink Floyd over the many years my buddy lived in Prinsen Eiland, which is not more than 5 maybe 10 minute walk from Haarlemerstratta and I drive there like every few weeks . I mean a coffeshop were tha bar is basically directly next to the window. Bar stools in front, where I usually hanged out..I think before in the 80ies it was nice indian restaurant, but I am not sure ; but yeah - memories tend to get cloudy; but both places were fravorites of mine so i wet there couple times . Later on i went to the shops near Albert Cuyp market - Kashmir Lounge, Karbouter etc, cause he lived in that era, then.. still Haarlemerstraat was THE place to go ..

I think the PICASSO is that coffeshop at the front end of Haarlemer straat - big square plaver run by morocans where I had a heavy drunk stone out late late at night after he went to get me some jamaican weed from some other shops around. Back then they served beer..lol

BTW in that vacation where I lived in a Hotel in 94 I think I was in the Greenhouse near the Canaal. Somehow I ended in that nice big coffeshop where people played a lot of pool and I thought, "man this must be the nicest run coffeshop I ever been in.". But it was only once and at night..so .. Had a great time there ..you know Amsterdam, you leave the door to buy some weed from your local shop and turn the wrong way one day and get lost so nicely..

not what I remember..lol... but who knows - downstairs is like a cove white walls and very nice painting of indian gurus, figures not ornaments.. anyway that looks good, too - iIn all these years they may have painted the walls couple times - vis a vis from AMRO Bank - little steps from stone to enter upstairs and you head to the bar . on the left. former was a counter for food . downstairs cove like small era with toilets . The room itself is the size of a regular old Adam 1and a half room appartment size - Sure the place will still be there, but if it is still a coffeshop ?

Picasso they have this nice Billard Type watch on the wall - Liked it so much wanted to buy it from the shop owner..lol

well the more closer i look could be the same guy who painted it - great colors very trippy cool..probably is the one - it is the last coffeshop on that side of the road - or the first from the plein down to town and yes opposite side of GHS ..

Regarding Greenhouse Seeds Ci - it might be they just opened up and I thought they sell food steaks + delicatessen, maybe Greenhouse Seeds reminded me of sprouts and Muesli, not cannabis..lol the elegant stone and glass might have fooled me to believe it was a noble restaurant and i just pass throu.. thinking this is not for me..lol

DUST , you DA man ! They re-arranged the interior a bit, but from outside coming in with the counter and all that - 100 % the one I meant. It is further from the plein as I thought, but it is on a corner and fits 100%. Thanks bro !

Good one , how was the weed ? Guess not THE number 1 shop for scoring but nice enough to chill have a good time with the people around and a snack..

Other faves of mine

BLUEBIRD (my favorite over the decades - first visit in 1984), HILL STREET BLUES (Main stay freak meeting), and the Bulldog at the end of the Red Light for drinking+smoking/ near the nieuw market, Easy Times - Reggae Bar near the Leidsepeiin ..best Reggae Disco in town and of course the before mentioned Karbouter (neighbohood supplier) + Kashmir Lounge for excellent Hash from the Himalyah and cheap seedy Kali weed from Jamaica... just to mention the more often frequented ones - There were so many small shacks with sometimes astonishing offers in the days, that are all closed down by now ..

Names are my weak point. i have petty good memory but names ? Even from people I know well..

Anyway - lik you said the Bulldog is one of the cogffeshops that have a license to serve alcohol and a good stereo, nice interior and a lot of people go there to hang out. For that it is okay once in a while. If I need a smoke i buy some morocan hash there and good or a pre-rolled joint, but mainly it is for the beer and atmosphere There are 3 Bulldogs - one is a biker meeting with the tattoo shop below. Not my vibe, the other is the big one at Leidseplein. too commercial for my liking as wel. That one at the end of the red light is okay. Nice location and fter walking around that era it is okay to stay for a few drinks and a smoke before going home...

That is so nice about Amsterdam. Many different eras of interest all within a small radius , you CAN walk or take the tram and no matter where you go the coffeshop for your personal taste is not hard to find all over town, even in the outer regios you find some amazingly good shops.

Well it seems over the years I missed out on some of the best like Green Place, Gray Era, Tweede Kamer etc. etc.

I bought mostly hash or some jamaican weed or if no jamaican on the menu just any nice looking bud, but mostly hash to take home.. I smoked cigarettes still, so imo nothing beats a good 5 gram piece of really fresh tasty pollen in the long run. price/smoke/high ratio... . smoking 5 gram of weed or 5 gram of hash - the hash lasts you longer.

Na true ?
