So if I want to grow clones , how to do it best ?

Recommended Posts

Sadly I have no access to mother plants or clones from growers around me what technique is the fastest and best for the next grow ?

Say I grow 5 feminized seeds and then pick the one that shows the most vitality or nicest grow structure, internodes or fattest stem etc. I put that aside from the others and keep it on 18 hours straight and under lower lights.. How long should I wait before picking the first clones ? Well basically it would be best to wait till the seeds are close to harvest before activating the clones for another grow cycle - or is it possible to put the clones into flower as soon as they rooted properly ? How old should the mother be in order for me to pick say 12 or 16 clones for a SOG ?

sup G ....i have rooted clones taken from the 4th node with no problem...yes u can put the clones to flower when they root properly especially since ur doin a SOG that would b a great idea.

the mother plant doesnt matter the age once she has enough veg growth to give the amount of clones u want....dont over do it.

e.g a mother grown in a dwc bubble setup will have more growth vs soil @ the same time period.

this is jus from my experience and shouldnt be taken as facts.

just grow out the one you like the best and take clones of her. Then root the clones, it will take about 10 to 14 days to root them. You can then veg them for another 10 days then flower, or flower right away.

I usually take my clones off feminized strains when they are in veg or withing 2 weeks of flowering. Take as many as you can, just to ensure you have back ups.

Thanks. So if a mother is already in flower clones still grow well ? I thought they reverse back from flowering to VEG . So by continuing growing out the mother plant means I can use one of her clones as the mother for the next batch - if I like that strain ? Or is that losing genetics already ? So you basically are saying keeping a motherplant around is not absolutely necessary for cloning - is that right ?

Probably best for the first round would be to grow 3 seeds out and take clones from 2 others for the first time (from a batch of 5 seeds for example) and reap them along with the 3 untouched while waiting for the clones to get ready, okay ? I have to try that out with at least one side of the room for a SOG and compare the outcome vs from seed.

Cool !

thats correct you don't need to keep a mother plant. I just take clones off the plants within the 2 weeks of flowering. If you try to clone past 10-14 day into flowering you will have troubles keeping them alive, or they will not root well.

So what I do is grow the feminized seeds, take a look and choose the one with the most traits you like. Then when it starts to veg take clones or if your not sure if its a females wait and take them within the first week or two of flowering. Then put them under 18 hours of light, in a humidity dome with a heating pad under it. Spray the cuttings with water and damp off or aqua shield.
