75weasels' Church and El Nino

Boy oh boy were these difficult to acquire here in the US. I am a new grower, and was donated all equipment I will be using. For vegetation I will be using a single tube T-5 Sun Blaze fluorescent. For flowering I use a Growlab 2'x5' tent. I will also be using a 360W HPS conversion lamp with high hours (far from ideal). I ordered my seeds through a 3rd party, and have just dropped them into the water. Pics below. I don't have much money, so I really don't expect to win.

This is my 3rd crop; my first using greenhouse genetics. As there is a lot I don't know, I will always take all input.

EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE BEING RUDE--- BY ALL MEANS INPUT!!!!! I take constructive criticism well.

Please don't diss the equipment unless you have already shipped me better stuff. This is what I have, and can produce with it. The quantity is just MUCH less.

EDIT: Added pic

Because Greenhouse won't ship here directly, I am unable to obtain their nutrient line. For Veg I use GH MaxiGro 10-5-14, and for flowering I use the Botanicare line (see below). All donated by my peers to get me into the industry. That's it.

BTW I have state permits to produce in Oregon. Grower ID#625109

EDIT: punctuation

Hope we'll see soon some great plants here man, give some nice presentation and pics and you have as much chance of winning as anyone ;)

Good luck!!

So the seeds have soaked to my satisfaction, and have been removed from the bath. Now to the elementary-school towel trick to get them to sprout. My thread may go quiet for a few days until I am ready to stick them in a nutrient-neutral medium. I use those sawdust things... Jiffy Pellets? I don't know what they are called but I give a TEENY bit of hormone to them when I initially soak to expand. More on that later.

DAY 2

After a 6 hour soak, and 18 hours in the Germinator-6000, El Nino has cracked. So far so good. I will be watching her closely in the incubator for another 6 hours until she's ready for the sawdust. I just need to see a bit more protrusion from the taproot. Because I only have 1 specimen I have decided to play it safe and not use any hormone in the medium. This is mostly because I am unfamiliar with these genetics. My incubator is just 2 19W CPF lamps inside a box. I shimmed it up off the table for circulation, then poked holes in the top until it held at a steady 85°F (~29.5°C). Nothing from Church yet, but it's still early. (Pics Below)

DAY 3

Not to much to report. Church cracked open last night and went into medium this morning. Both El-Nino and Church are now in the terrarium as I fight the urge to go and mess with them :) I decided to soak the other 3 strains from the multi-pack as well, and they are in the incubator now, waiting for the magic to happen. Those are Cheese, Trainwreck, and dat' funkay funkay Lemon Skunkaaayyy.... I'll post a few more pics when they all are in sawdust.

Dust! I didn't even see your post there bud. Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah Sizla, Each of these strains are new to me all together. I am very excited to have something new and different. For the last 3 years I have been spending summers up at the co-op growing Shishka, UW and Romulan... over and over and and over and... yeah. High medical production. I have nothing but respect and admiration for what my mentor has done with these strains over the years, but I need to do my own thing. When the discovery is gone, it's just digging holes and shoveling shit. :) I am just learning the EC to Siemens to PPM relationships now, and how that is used to determine nutrient saturation levels. Strong electrical theory helped a lot there. Up to this point, I have been using microbial cultures to keep the balance for good uptake. I have so many questions, but am withholding until I am sure I am asking the right ones. Pleased to meet you my friend. TC

EDIT: Corrected DUST'S name. I was reading another post from Tokage while I was typing to him.

Fo' sho Bigheads. Lots Sour D in this region, along with the Lemon D. I have never tried a verified Lemon Skunk strain before. All new stuff :)~

DAY 4

All seeds have split and are in sawdust. 5/5 each within 24 hours of first touching water. GH Seed Co. is no joke. A bit of KLN rooting hormone was added (.05 mL) to the glass you see there. I just sprayed the tops of the plugs with it until all were fully saturated with moisture. The rest is pretty much in nature's hands now. Of course, a few pics. Left to right is El Nino, The Church, Lemon Skunk, Train Wreck, and The Cheese.

The light in the box would be more reflective with white walls. Potential fire hazard too.

The lights are for gentle heat only, and to give the rootlings a bit of light so the hormones are proper when they go into the veg booth. Don't fret, no fire hazzard.

Will these be for medical patients?

This is for me, but I am growing under a state permit, so yes, technically.

EDIT: I'm not sure where you are from, but we don't "distribute" to dispensaries in Oregon. In fact, they are highly illegal. Patients and producers are compensated through verbal agreement, so I work at an organic co-op in the summer doing my 24 plants, as per state mandate. This pays for my Daughter's college, and I live in poverty through the winter. :)

Indoor / Outdoor is irrelevant in context to state law. 6 mature plants and 18 seedlings per patient. 4 patients per grower. I do 8 plants each of 3 strains organically in the summer (2 harvests) and that supplies my patients and the rest pays my bills for the winter. At this point I am just learning how to grow under light, and I don't have the money for cloners and stuff. I am trying to acquire an EC meter.

Day 8

Not much to report. El Nino broke the soil on 2/25, but whether the taproot goes down or the seedpod pushes up is up to nature for the most part. Moved the seedlings under the 54W Flourescent fixture. Humidity dome is wide open for full ventilation. 80°F All good.

EDIT: I added this pic just because I love this part.

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
