Outdoor Cup - Grow Journal - Sweet Mango Auto

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

welcome to my grow journal for the Outdoor World Cup! Originally i thought about starting this journal after my seeds arrived. But they are not here yet and it is June/15. I ordered the free kit with power feeding. So I do not know yet which strain i am going to get. But i can give you already some information about the equipment i will use for the seedlings and early vegetative phase indoor.

Lets start with the room. My tent from Grow Lab is called GL 100. It has an area of 1 square meter (100cmx100cm) and is 2 meters tall. Inside there is a reflective foil everywhere. You have a lot of holes for you your air and water tubes or for cables. From the outside it is black and it offers you two windows to watch your plants while the tent is closed. Like that you can make sure that your air circulation stays as usual.

growlab gl100

The air circulation is made by a System Air RKV 200E2-A1 LTI as outtake that has about 770 m³/h. For the intake there is a small axial fan.

systemair RKV-200E2-A1

axial fan

The System Air fan is connected to a cooltube reflector called Sputnik. I have the large one with a 150mm connector. This reflector is really awesome. It is cool and really big. The surface is covered with a nice reflective material. Compared to other reflectors the Sputnik offers the most light in the middle of the reflector. It has the perfect size for 1 m².

Sputnik reflector

The reflector is already a nice tool to keep the temperature low. But for the perfect adjustment I use a G SE Fan Controller that offers me to the fan speed, the temperature, the humidity and the negative pressure. The intake fan as well as the outtake fan are connected to it.

GSE Fan Controller

The electrical power for the light inside the reflector comes from a Lumatek ballast. The Lumatek is one of the new generation ballasts that are more efficient and allow you to change the W. In my case i can switch between 400W, 400W SL, 600W and 600 W SL. SL means Super Lumen and should increase the power by 10%. So it is 400W, 440W, 600W, 660W.

lumatek ballast

The ballast will run a 400W MH light with 440W/400W LS. The soil i use is called BioBizz Light Mix.

Allright! That´s my setup! Now I have to wait for the seeds! As soon as they arrive i will start germinating them. And ofcourse i will take pictures and use them in my next update for you guys! Feel free to comment and to ask questions!

Hey! Thanks for your reply and your wishes Dust! I am really looking forward to get it started ;) At the moment my outdoor spot is under water because of many rain days. But there is still some time left for it to dry again. And I am sure it will.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!

I can proudly announce that i received my kit yesterday! Next to the Power Feeding for short flowering plants SH and GHSC did give 10x Sweet Mango Auto seeds to me! Thanks for that! At this point I also want to thank all the people that did already reply to my journal! Thank you for all you wishes!

On the 7th of june, a monday, I started to germinate the Sweet Mango Auto Seeds. I took all 10 seeds, put them in a glass of water and covered them to make sure that light wont hurt them. The water temperature was set to 22°C. I took some photos directly after I placed them in the water. Here they are:

Here is a picture of the Power Feeding:

gallery_15503_1043_29193.jpg

After the seeds had been in the glass for about 24 hours i prepared their next home. I cleaned 2 plates and dropped water on one of them. I covered it with a few sheets of paper towel and waited for it to get wet. Than I carefully placed the seeds in the middlle of the plate and cover them with some more paper towel. I also added some more water and as soon as everything was wet I covered it all with the second plate. Like the glass with the water I stored the plates in an area without light at about 22-25°C. I am going to wait now for another 24-72 hours until I transplant the seedlings into their first small pots. Here you can see all the seeds on the wet paper towel before they were covered:

As always I am happy about your replies! Feel free to ask anything or to criticise me. I will keep you guys updated! Have a nice evening and come back here soon ;)

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the next update on my outdoor world cup grow. It took only about 27 hours until all 10 seeds in the paper towels were ready to get into soil. They really exploded and the largest root was already over 3 cm long. This is how they looked:

gallery_15503_1044_311974.jpg

So I started to fill ten small 0.8l pots with my BioBizz Light Mix Soil. With the help of a yardstick i did measure the depth of the holes. The next steps were transplanting the baby plant carefully, covering them with soil and giving some water. As soon as this was finished i took this picture for you:

gallery_15503_1044_353012.jpg

As you might already know the young plants like a high humidity. For this reason i placed the 10 Sweet Mangos in something like a small greenhouse. It has a clear plastic cover to get light in but no moisture out. In the bottom part there is a heater. I did set the temperature to 24°C but because of the hot air outside it should never need to get active. If my explanation is too bad to understand what I mean this pictures might help:

gallery_15503_1044_390200.jpg

gallery_15503_1044_198473.jpg

Now I am going to wait until all of them did make their way through the soil. After 2-3 days I want to place them under a 400W MH lamp.

All pictures were taken yesterday (6/19/2013). I am expecting the plants to be visible today. If that should be the case you will directly get another update. So stay tuned guys and check my journal frequently! I am open to any suggestions, questions and criticism.

Good evening! As expected the plants already showed a nice developement! It took only about 5 hours til the first Sweet Mango, the one with the largest root, showed her face:

gallery_15503_1045_463977.jpg

The first light she saw was so beautiful that she told all her friends to follow. After more or less 16 hours touching soil all my babies were visible:

gallery_15503_1045_719376.jpg

As you could already see on the pictures above the pots were tagged with the number of the plant. Like this I am able to judge the developement of every plant. Here are some closer shots:

I apologize for the quality of the pictures. They were taken with a mobile phone cam. I am going to get another camera but i do not no yet when it will arrive. Right now the Mangos are still in there humidity greenhouse under the influence of a little bit light. My last plants liked it to leave this area early and enjoying the 400W MH. That is why i am thinking about putting them in my tent tomorrow. Please tell me what you think about this early transfer. The next update wont wait long! I hope you will leave a comment to give me some feedback and pass by again!

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

As promised you will now get the new update! "Staying at home is boring!" is what my plants said today. And because I want them to be happy I made their dream come true. So today they left their small "humidity greenhouse". I placed all the Sweet Mago Autos in my tent under the 400W MH which is running on 440W with my adjustable ballast. But guess what! They are not alone! Next to them are some ladies which sprouted out of seeds a friend gave me. He said it should be Purple Haze and White Widow. I dont know if its true or not. But its cannabis ;) As you might notice on the following pictures the Mangos are set a bit lower than the others. I want the others around to cover the young Autos from too much air circlation. The stems are still really thin and i am afraid of them to break.

gallery_15503_1046_736745.jpg

gallery_15503_1046_79389.jpg

This tent is their last step before they go outside. The room temperature is usually between 25 and 30°C. The lightcycle is 18/6. I want to keep them for 2 or 3 more weeks indoor. I hope they wont start flowering earlier. But if yes I am sorry. For some reason i did get automatic seeds as free kit which makes it difficult to follow the rules and flower them outdoor. I hope you understand that they might start showing hairs before i want them to. But if that should be the case they will be put outdoor within 24 hours. I hope you guys enjoy watching my pictures as much as i do growing those ladies ;) Have a nice day everybody!

thanks for the news mman :) They were right to complain they must feel better in this big house :P;)

Everythign seems to be fine, don't worry about the stem they rarely break, they can bend but they come back easily if you help them, if you want some support you can use plastic glasses you cut the bottom and put them around the plant it will hold the stem and can be removed easily later ;)

Have a good grow

Good morning everybody!

Today is day 8 for the little Sweet Mango Autos. It´s time fot their first nutrient solution! This is my first time using Powder Feeding from GHSC. To have a good comparison to Hesi, which I used so far, I decided to feed 7 plants with Powder Feeding and 3 plants with Hesi. But before I tell you more details about the nutrients I want to show you some pictures with all ladies together in my tent:

gallery_15503_1048_390550.jpg

gallery_15503_1048_1066577.jpg

gallery_15503_1048_119520.jpg

gallery_15503_1048_828597.jpg

I do not know why but somehow I am proud about them ;)

Let us start with the Hesi nutrient solution. It was mixed like written in the Hesi schedule. 1l water got prepared with 2.5ml TNT complex (vegetation fertelizer), 5ml of root complex, 2ml of power zyme and less than a drop of super vit. All product are original Hesi products. This nutrient solution is made for SMA#1, SMA#2 and SMA#9.

All the other Mangos receive only Powder Feeding from GHSC. On the packaging is written that you should use 2.5g - 5g / 10l of water for young plants or seedlings. Because I only mixed 1l of water I chose to use 0.25g for that liter or easier: 0.25g/l. I am now very excited to monitor the developement during the next few days. This is how the preparation of the Powder Feeding solution looked like:

gallery_15503_1048_217358.jpg

By the way: I love this spoon! Are there also knifes and forks purchasable from GHSC? :D :D

Do you still remember the day i tranferred the sprouting seeds to their pots? Today I have some new individual shots of every single plant for you:

At this point I want to thank nicc1976 and Dust for their comments. As you might already have noticed on the pictures I placed the Seet Mango Autos now a bit higher in my GrowLab tent. First I was afraid that the stems could break because of the air circultaion. But Dust gave me the advice that there is only a minimal chance that they break. And he is right as always ;) One of the plants needs a littele bit help (SMA#4) but all the other are fine and happy. They will now take profit from more light and more air.

The room temperature is still kept between 25°C and 30°C. The humidity is a little bit low with about 30-40% but all the plants look great. I am not really worried about that but i often spray some waiter on the leafes or in the air to increase it.

That´s it for today! I hope you guys enjoy the new photos and information! As always you are pleased to comment, ask questions or criticise. I hope to see you back here soon!

Have a good day and a good smoke everybody.

I have some good and some bad news. The good news first! The Mangos are all happy and alive and one of the other plants is showing female pre-flowers. But 2 of the other plants are showing male preflowers. I will kill them because i do not know their genetics for sure. I did already beat them up :P Now i am just hoping that all otheres are female.

I will give you a new update on the Sweet Mango Autos during the next few days. And ofcourse i will add some pictures.

cu soon
