In a lot of cases u have, i dont know the english name but 1:1 german enlish theyr called sadness mosquitos in ur soil.

These little suckers eat ur babys roots and it just dies very fast.

What u can do to prevent this is heat ur soil to ca 80c before u use it so all larvs will just explode ;)

may this was the issue

Maybe fungus gnats you mean Atrox? the larvae eat the roots but the adults are harmless and just flutter around??

You can also kill larvae by letting the soil dry out real good a few times.

I have a really REALLY rich soil mix that holds moisture better than I'd like so I have to really take care not to over water.

I think I brought fungus gnats into my garden by adding mushroom compost?? Also you can topdress your soil with sand.

I've heard this kills them too. I use diatomaceous earth for that purpose.

Good luck

I have my suspicions that the soil i used was to rich or i have been reading that they maybe got to much light

I agree with the above.

While assisting a friend with his seeds, we planted them in fox farm, they all died, after growimg an inch or so.

We then used Black gold, which is low in nutrients, lots of worm castings and things like that, all 6 surived just fine.

Best of luck
