Thanx Dust

My plan is to fill the whole pot suface and then to just let her grow and then a quick FIM before flowering.

My other plan is to let her go around the pot as initially planned, and then place a net over her and thin out a bit again. Damn this Scrog virus. LoL

And she is outdoor Dust. I do take her indoor to make the light time longer. It seems as if my plants are flowering again. If there is 1 thing I have learned, its to NOT put indoor veg plants out before December.

Ahoy

I have so bad news. The Blue Widow did not make it. It caught a virus ( white rust ) and passed away. It went from a healthy young female to dead, brown and crispy within 3 days. I am very upset and sad about this cause I was looking forward to her.

But we can't sit and mope over a lost plant. So her replacements 2nd set of leafs is forming already. Kalashnikova is getting prepped for her new home.

But that's another days thread

Ach du Liebe! What a beautiful plant lost. My wife was just beginning to follow your grow, and then this loss.

Oh well, sorry for your loss Pete. Just be sure to Chlorox the pot and all your Tools. Toss that soil away.

We'll be interested in following your Kalashnikovas.

By the way, in the interest of your forensics investigation, did you sterilize your instruments before that significant trimming? The Virus could have come from the instruments? Or it could have come from that brand new 20mm layer of mulch.

Thanx brother. Yeah its shit to lose plants. Especially if you gave all that energy towards a plant.

Well, to be totally honest, my tools weren't clean. I neglected to clean them properly like I should.

The mulch layer also gave me the thought that it could be somwthing from there but a buddy bought the same compost and his plants are fine. But I'll keep checkin on that.

Like I said, the white rust from the vinyard look very similiar to what happened. But then again, I never came near the vinyard with my tools.

Time to go CSI

Cannabissapean, this is the only pic I have. Unfortunately I did not take any pics of her before I chucked her. I thought about it, but at that moment I wasn't thinking straight.

I haven't seen a pest for the past 6 weeks. So that's ruled out.

Pic1: Arjan Haze #1

She sprouted nice and quick and things started off good. But that happiness was short-lived when I noticed that the 1st leafs were contorted. I thought nothing of it but after the 2nd set of leafs were the same I started worrying. 3rd set the same, this was becoming a irritation. Mainly because I only had the 1 bean and I always wanted to do the AH. So for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to pot her from a 5L to 25L pot. Fuck knows why but yeah, I did it !!! I read many articles about potting young seedling to BIG pots. All of those articles advised against it.

But all tuned out good. Fuck those articles. LoL. No not really. The plant started showing signs of growth and before I knew it, she found her "feet" and she is going for it to make Pete's eyes red with happiness. I added some Volcanic Rock Dust and Gypsum (small amount) to the mix and only after adding that to the mix, did I see some better results. I only got samples from the stuff I used and I will get more info on it and post it here.

Pic 2: Querkell

I have cleaned her up a bit since this photo. 2 days ago. Again, I read so many articles about cutting the leafs and also some of you guys even said not to but I did it. I have seen beautiful results from defoliation. I 1st read about it in an article few months back. Then I tried it on a flowering plant and compared it again to a non defoliated plant. The buds were bigger and more frosty. So I will be trying it again, but with the Querkell again. Reason , because I did it with the querkell. Not sure how the other strains will react so I will wait till I take a few cuttings and test it.

Pic3: Querkell - Leaf Close Up

My leafs started going Taco shape. I figured it was because of the heat. So I moved her on top of a chair. The bricks she stood on became hot as hell after a full day of sun. Brown edges is also forming but I will have to see if that is a deficiency or heat burn.

Pic4: Kalashnikova

WOW, the info on this plant is mouth watering and it was a MUST in Pete's Book and the plan was set in motion. Got my beans and planted 1 immediately. Also came up quick but that was it as far a growth went. She grew extremely slow and I was actually thinking off chucking her. I had some run inns with slow growers before and none had good results. Wasn't long before the died. Bit not Kalash, no she stood strong. Small, but strong. One day I looked at her grow tip and noticed it looked weird. When I looked closer I saw the tip was crooked and weird looking. So I went and pulled the leafs apart and saw that there was a white fluffy sticky something on it. So I did what I thought best. I topped her and was hoping that would "shock" her into quicker growth.

She has picked up since then and growth I a little bit quicker. If all fails I would just like to take a cutting from her to keep over winter and try again in spring.

Pic 5 : Combo

Left - White Widow

Right - Blue Widow

Both these seeds were planted on the same day. The BW sprouted a day earlier than the WW. Whe has also stretched a lot. This has me thinking that this could be male ???

It is supposed to be femisnized beans but I don't like stretchers. Both got the same sun light exposure and water and everything. Last season it stretched as well but I really can't remember it being like this. Nevertheless, I will keep "her". I have potted them into 15L pots. In 2 months flower season starts and I want them to be happy in their final home when that time comes.

hoya Pete

nice update there man :)

Quick word on seeds and pot size, The adivce not to put seeds/small seedlings in to large pots is in a way correct.

Seedlings like a little warmth around thier roots, in Europe especially in Northern Europe, it is cold and wet and seedling with cold and wet feet aren't happy little plants.

In cold and overly wet conditions the seedlings growth is slowed and the wet can deprive of oxygen in soil. Also the chance of fungal infection such as "damping off" cused by the following fungi -

List copied and pasted from wikipedia

Where you live is lovely and hot and small pots may be prone to the root zone getting to hot & drying out  (which is the opposite problem to ours in Europe) .

Larger pots in your location will stay moist for longer, yet still have  a nice temp in the root zone.

Yes bricks do get hot in the sun raising it up like you did will help as well as some shade cloth.

Like the fact your gonna be defoliating, but be a little careful in your hot location, leaves help draw waterup  and transpiration  helps the plant cool by sweating moisture. The fan leave will also povide a some shade for the smaller leaves.

Defoliation is a nice technique and I have tried it, with some nice results. As with topping and fimming some strains will love it more than others but this is trial and error if you cannot find info on your strain and if it likes defoliation, but I like to play around and try new things. :)

Have a great grow

peace bro

Lams, thanx again for that wonderfull info man. Real nice reading your comments. Learning everyday still.

I might have gone a bit far with the Querkell's defoliation, but hey you can't stick those leafs back.

Thanks for the kind words Pete :)

I always say "If a day goes by and I haven't learned anything, it is a wasted day" ;)

Be sure with all the great threads and posts here @ Strain Hunters, I never have a wasted day as there is always something nice to learn in the forums , but as the  evening draws in, my learning slows down a I get a little Wasted ;) heh

Hopefully the querkle will love it , I'll be sure to follow and see her do her thing.

I'll give you some links to reafs grow,he got some nice things going on. :)

Not a big update this week, but I would like to show off the Arjan Haze #1. Wow, what a plant. She strong and is growing at a tempo that I like. Her leafs is beautiful and green and just screams healthy.

After a problematic time when all my plants showed signs of stress, the Haze just breezed through. I would also like to thank Reaf again for helping me sort out my problem. It turns out my plants were being cooked and I did not even know it. Our sun here is quite unforgiving on hot days and my plants payed for my stupidity. But all is well again and the plants seem happy.

I found a small black worm helping himself to some good old Blue Widow leafs. Hate taking things away from food but hey, go chow other plants. LoL

Next week will be the end of January which means that flowering season is coming so much closer. Unfortunately we have to brave February. Its gonna be a HOT month again.

Ahoya Pete :)

Good to see the nice vibes and Reaf helping you out with you over heating :)

Sure does sound like African sun and temps can be a challenge.

Sorry Mr. Black worm, cannabis has been removed from the menu xD I hope he found another plant tp chew.

Good to here the Haze just sailded through the heat!

Look forward to bloom season & hope you don't have any problems through Febuary with the heat.

Till next update

Peace & smokes

Reaf, yeah the morning already determine what the day is gonna be like. And when you walk out of the house and start sweating already, then you know hell has come to earth for a bit to say hello.

Lams, that black worm almost resembled a catepillar, and it was chowing fast. Guess bugs have a all you can eat boufet on plants now and again. Not sure where the fucker is now but all I know is that he is NOT on my plants. I guess its time to whip up some Garlic Spray to deter the buggers.

Some of my leafs on the Querkell doesn't look to hot, but I guess its just the resulting damage of the heat. I'll post a pic next week of her to hear you guys oponion. On other parts of the same plant things are looking good.

Arjan Haze seems to thrive in the heat and that's why I'm taking cuttings. When the new season starts, some Haze plants are going out.

I guess an update on the ladies is in order. I do appologize for not updating sooner but I didn't see the use of posting until big changes were visible.

1st up in Arjan Haze #1. This is truly a nice strain. She hasn't given me 1 problem so far and she is going strong. Her alternating branching started about a week ago and it seems as if she is getting ready to do her things. I have changed my feeding back to Seabird Guano seeing that the N is a bit lower. I still have to pull the main grow points down a bit but I think I should leave one as is to get that FAT cola. I have a jar ready for her, and its a big jar. So she better give me many goodies. LoL

2nd up is Kalashnikova. Beautiful little specimen this one. Still a slow grower. I have taken a cutting from her in hopes to try again in the new season and this time starting sooner. I would love to get that Kilo harvest. I seem to have some problems with leaf minors. Not a fuckin clue as to where they come from, but all I know is that they are messing up my leafs.

If the Kalash doesn't show any good growth by 15 March, then she is getting repotted into a smaller pot and then she will remain indoors until the new season starts. I really don't see the use of flowering such a small plant

Hopefully soon I'll be able to show some porn.

Looking good pete :)

its been a really hot summer here and you might find that she just doesnt like the heat.

Remember most cannabis is breed for indoor and can be grown outdoor. If you think about it , how many generations has it been since that plant if every has met a full summer sun and then you through in the african sun which gets hot, just a thought.

cheers

Reaf, I guess your right hey. I did not take that into consideration. This African sun does tend to get H O T !!!

I have taken some more Haze cuttings. 1 is in compost and perlite and the other 1 is in clean perlite. The Kalashnikova cutting is coming along nicely so far. I'm just waiting for lights on and then I'll throw a pic.
