Scrog Confusion

Recommended Posts

Ahoya

I'm attempting scrogging outdoors combined with force flowering. And I was wondering.

Do I top at young age and get multiple branches going before they reach the screen, and then tie them down

OR...

Do I weave the grow sites through the screen all the way throught ???

hi man!  well both ways will work, wome people instead of scrogging in outdoor just put the net around the whole plant to hold all the sites, as you don't have to worry about light penetration with the sun, it ususally orks really nice by grwing it natural with a net.  but if you'd want to SCROG outdoor, i'll wait for the girl to reach at least  50 60 before topping for outdoor, in indoor it would be a lot earlier, but you wan to avoid your plants beeing to close to the floor in outdoor to keep it away from soall rodents like rats and rabbits etc. so your tops i think should be at least a 1m of the floor t be more or less safe, and then yes i would top and start to bend a little the side branches maybe. but it's dificult to guess when exactly to do what as it will change from location to another location.

Good luck man!

Hey man

Thanx for the reply.

Well, the plant is currently only at its 2nd set of leafs and in its final pot. (15L). I already constructed the screen and everything is already on the go. I prepped before giving it real thought. I have an unknown sativa that I placed a screen over and ended up with 31 budsites. So that's gonna be fun.

Will update as soon as branches hit the screen

Stinky Pete,

Here's an experiment for ya to try:

For only one of your middle branches (or for one entire plant; I don't know how many plants you have), try FIMming every bud-site just before the plant starts the pre-flowering.

It may delay the flowering two or three weeks on that branch (or that plant), but it may increase yield.

I would be interested in knowing the comparative results.

Thanx for the reply and advice. That's something I might just try. I have 8 plants but only 2 is being scrogged outdoors/force flowered.

I have about 3 months before flower season starts, so I'm actually in a pickle with this one.

#1: I can fill the screen and start flowering

#2: I can fill the screen and "stall" the plant to flower with the seaon

And with you mentioning about the plant that may be "stunted" for a few weeks, I might just do that. Last few times I FIM'd it didn't work. Maybe I was doing it wrong or didn't know the correct way, but after that last try I kinda gave up on Fimming. I will do some reading again and give it a shot

I checked the seedling this morning and I'm seeing new growth everyday. Not big growth but the new growth is getting bigger.

Hey man, i've also done this before with a critical girl outdoors 2 summers ago. I didnt top the plant and i started scrogging the plant to the left. The side branches will grow fast enough and catch up to your main branch. Really Scrogging outdoor = awesome man.

Hope you get the bug and love it like i do :D

I found that as soon as the idea pops into my head, the bug has bitten. LoL. After I placed a screen over my Coco Queen and seeing the results, I am gonna Scrog everything. It just makes so much more sense.

As you can read in my previous post, it is not a good idea... Specially if you say it will take 2-3 weeks longer.... why don't you let the plant veg for 2-3 more weeks after the fimming, so you will end up with a much bigger plant and therefore significantly bigger yield.

Hey Levente

Interesting point you bring up. I didn't think about the size of the bud sites at flowering that much. I might have to re-think. But I like the idea of fimming at 5th internode.

But at the end of the day I'll probably top at 7th node and guide the branches as I weave them through the screen.

We all learn by experimenting. Each strain has different growth pattern, some is bushier, some more like culums, but generally those are the principals. If u fim too early, the growth will slow down, if you wait much longer, you will have many small branches on the bottom that will be shaded, so have to be shaved down later in flowering, meaning it was a wasted energy from the plant. Usually double fimming is needed to get an even canopy with the devided tops and the upgrowing side branches.

Some older and wiser provided the info back in the days, and i found it very useful as a guideline. Hybrids and sativa dominants love it, but some plants just don't react good for fimming anyway, like the chronic...

I am glad if i can help, so no whips brother!!!

But i like if someone is able to confess in case he was wrong, it is something we should respect, and the other side is what can piss me off really...and i was gonna continue here about an issue .... but it is christmas, so i don't...

Peace
