Hello hunters, so i came across this article today during my daily internet check ;)

Thought it might interest some of you, it is an exciting news and i hope we will learn more about it, and that its not a scam haha ;)

Here i copy the article taken from : http://www.nbcnews.com-guest.us/direct/discovery/biology/new%20species%20discovered.html#.VL-Uay7Xr8N

EDIT: well finally it was a hoax :rabbi:  http://www.hightimes.com/read/new-species-cannabis-discovered-hoax

Scientist believe they have located a fourth species of cannabis

Most of the world's species remain undiscovered by science.

Biologists have described and classified 1.7 million plants and animals as of 2010, less than one-quarter of the total species estimated in the world. Scientists figure there are still over five million species waiting to be found.

80 million years ago. Thats how long Australia's wildlife has been isolated.

It is possible that this species of cannabis is the offspring of an ancient cannabis ancestor that was isolated during contenental drift. Researchers at Australia's University of Sydney believe it is more likely to have been brought by migrant humans 50,000 years ago.

In 2010, hikers in Australia's Blue mountains found a single plant resembling some of the common characteristics of cannabis. The plant was then donated to a research lab at the University of Sydney. A barrage of tests proved the plant is in fact Cannabis, how ever different it may appear. This is what Charles Darwin referred to as divergent evolution.

Teams have been sent in search of more specimens but have all come back empty handed.

Researcher Christopher Pool (Who is also rumored to be dating rising pop star Meghan Trainor) stated "When we first recieved the plant we were very skeptical about it's relation to cannabis. It has somewhat similar growth structure but the leaves look nothing like cannabis leaves." He also went on to say that if anybody has information leading to the procurement of another of these plants they will be generously rewarded.

By "generous" he means $10,000.

According to tests, the species is resistant to freezing temperatures and the plant grows more like a shrub, without the typical candelabra shape of most cannabis.

Pool also mentioned the large amount of offers they have recieved from cannabis breeders all over the world trying to obtain the seeds of this plant, some offering upwards of $2,000 per seed.

"The only problem is that we dont have any seeds, we only have one plant." Pool explained. "We've exhausted our funding trying to find another like it."

Anyone interested in assisting with their search efforts could contact Pool at "christophermpool@gmail.com"

You could also follow or message Christopher through twitter "@chrispoool."

i think the researcher got a bit too hasty when he speculated the stuff from leaf shape hehe, i read about this plant long time ago as i was reading about the australian strains

the plant has been known by the name ABC australian bastard cannabis and there is still no evidence of it being new species or subspecies that i know of, maybe the research will reveal it finally tho

there are many weird leaf variations and mutations in cannabis and i belive this might just one of the many mutations but not new species, only speculating thought

article from    17.8.2000       http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/1651.html

Last year while in Australia I was introduced to a strange strain of pot which we dubbed Australian Bastard Cannabis (ABC) (see CC#19, Growing Down Under). This unique variety does not exhibit many of cannabis' typical traits, so much so that even an experienced grower might not notice if he passed by this strain in the wild.

The ABC leaf structure is quite different than regular cannabis. There are no fan leaves, all leaves are quite small with an irregular distribution of stamens. The plant grows more like a shrub, without the typical candelabra shape of most cannabis.

Mr Ayers, who introduced me to the ABC, told me that it was a very hardy strain, resisting frosts which had killed Flo and Skunk plants, even withstanding direct snowfall.

Unfortunately, the ABC does not provide a potent smoke, and although hash screened from the buds does give a decent buzz, it is higher in less pleasant cannabinoids than THC, like CBD and CBN.

I brought back a goodly supply of ABC seeds from my last trip, as well as ABC x Flo. We gave them away to subscribers and others, to encourage breeding and development of this strange strain. Ideally, a new strain could be developed which combined the camouflage look of the ABC with the potency of Flo.

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/topic/14173-mongy-weed-explained/

''Hi all, I thought I would write this post to explain what Mongy Weed is and to hopfully clear up the confusion created by Bindi, Dizzy, ABC and Duckfoot etc.

Best to mention Wally Ducks "Duckfoot" strain first. It is not Mongy Weed. But it is a very interesting plant, another strange mutant marijuana. ABC, Dizzy, Bindi etc. on the other hand are all Mongy Weed.

The original genetics for Mongy Weed were from a mutated stand of wild hemp ( what I'd call hemp anyway ) found not far from Sydney, Australia. I would like to claim fame for this find, but although I did get to see the plants, It wasn't me that found them. The now elderly couple that did find them I would like to thank for teaching me the basics that got me started growing all plants and especially for recognizing and passing on this strange leaf mutation.

In its native state Mongy Weed is not very good for hemp or THC. It is a weed. The couple who found it began to cross these original Mongy Weed seeds with their own plants and were having some success until they were beaten by age, and new living circumstances saw an end to their love of growing cannabis. And as I had shown so much interest, this is when I was given their seeds and began to grow Mongy Weed for myself.

Most of their early crosses were with pure sativa and sativa dominant plants of unknown origin. As were mine. the first known strain I crossed with was Durban Poison. Mongy Weed was totally unknown as cannabis at this stage and i was able to grow it just about anywhere undetected which meant that I was able to introduce many different cannabis strains into the gene pool with relative ease. This mixed seed stock I called Mongy Madness.

Many of these seeds I started to give to friends ( which I thought was just about everyone back then ) so they could grow their own Mongy Madness and it wasn't that many years after this ( stupid me, it was obvious in hind sight ) I had people trying to sell me Mongy Madness as Bindi weed, and I am reading reports in the paper about new "mutant super weed" busts. I stopped giving away ANY seed after this and continued to grow my own strains in private.

Mongy Madness faded into past knowledge for most people as far as I knew and I had heard little more until recently when I got a computer and learned of the Mongy Madness seed that Marc Emery had taken back to Canada and named australian bastard cannabis or ABC.

Since then I know of a couple of people who have continued to grow Emery's Mongy seed. Another grower I have found who is also working with Mongy Madness seed, calls his strain Dizzy.

I have been growing Mongy Weed for well over 20yrs and don't intend to stop now. It is way too interesting a plant. I have friends who still grow Mongy Madness, and have met a few more people both in Australia and overseas since getting a computer who also do. It wouldn't surprise me if there are more people who have continued to grow Mongy Madness in private over the years as I literaly gave away buckets of seed to alot of different people.

Anyway I hope this has helped clear up a few of the mis-conceptions that surround this plant that I have always refered to as Mongy Weed and the couple that found it always called Cannabis Australis.''

Yes i remember this plant, the thing is i'm not sure if the photo is revealant to the new specy or if its just a photo taken from the web, because on the various other articles i've read about it in the end they always used diferent photos of various strains already known. but yeah i remember this plant and it reminded the story as well, i didnt remember the name tho, ABC it is :)

I remember one breeder was even trying to cross things with it for guerilla grows, to make safer because of the look of it.. ^^

Thanks for the article, it's really very interesting. I never even thought that a new type of marijuana could be discovered .. Does anyone have any recent news on this topic? This topic interested me. It is a pity that the price for seeds is so high, but it seems to me that over time it will become lower. I am sure that it will not only smoke cool, but also serve well for medical purposes. You know about the medicinal properties of marijuana? For example, I very often use such pills to get rid of headaches. They are actually much better than regular pharmacy pills. They were first advised to me by myherbology.com . Since then, I have only used them. Perhaps the new species can add something new to the list of curable diseases.

This was a great read. Being an aussie myself with a Variegated form of a Lemon haze Ive been playing with for a few years, It was nice to read there are others out there trying to see what they can do with unusual genetics. Unfort for me the Original plant I first grew this was a Hermie and all following gens have been hermied too despite trying to cross in Sour D genetics it still wont show the leaf color in plants that are female- Only the plants that turn out to be hermies have the leaf color. And I dont have the room to grow out dozens let alone even more seeds to find that rare pheno that may show the cool mutation and be female also.

Always heard about there being some really bizarre strains here in Australia- We have so much land its insane if you really study our country- and so many habitats from tropical Ancient rain forests to semi arid grasslands and deserts there is bound to be a trippy strain or three out here no one really knows much about.
