This is how 12/12 works..

Recommended Posts

There seems to be some confusion regarding growing seeds the normal way 18 hours lights on in VEG. Then after a good month or so turn into flowering by changing lights from MH to HPS and reducing the lighs on period from 18 hoiurs to 12 hours on-12 hours off.

That was the way I started growing for a ood while til I read about 12/12 from seed by DUST and a few others. So why do I grow 12/12 most of the time recently ? I noticed that no matter how much I harvested I often ran out of weed long before the next bunch was ready , 3 to 4 months between crops simply was too long. Plus the electricity is getting more + more expensive every year and by reducing the lights for 6 hours in the first month and a half means saving costs.

The trick is simple. If you stash the tent/room chock full with seedlings it makes sense to give them 18 hours - But the way I do it iis different. I leave around 25% of the space for another batch, started 4 to 6 weeks after the main bunch. Once the little plants get bigger and need more space/bigger pots I harvest the ripe plants - now I have the space for the upcoming crop, that is already in flowering then. T

Look how different each plant looks (Damnesia)

And you can also precise that of course some strain will not like it, but during the time i have grown like this, 2 years more or less, i encountered maybe 2 strains that didnt appreciate it too much, but still in the end they made it like everybody, the good thing is that even if one strain takes longer than another it never bothers as light cycle is equal and it actually creates that rotation that you did by leaving an empty space, i didnt do this but as i always mixed indica hybrids and sativas i always had some opened space at some time to start a new round in time :)

Good luck to all the testers that will try it ^^ Some like it, some dont ^^

Of course this may not be for everyone esp. not commercial growers or those who want to grow as much as possible once and then take a break. The downside is you have to grow all the time and esp. in my case with ripe plants I feel a bit para to order new seeds with a tent full of plants..The loss would be too much . I have to add, that I often pre-veg fresh plants in a different place with different lights and make sure they have a solid foundation before I put them to the rest. But sometimes, when I have like 8 fresh seeds I keep that time very short. Once they are rooted from tiny cups  into these 6.5 liters I have to move them for space reasons. I used to transplant from tiny to 2 litres and then into 6.5 and finally in flower to 11 litres but that is way too much work + stresses the plants. Now I leave the 2 litres and into the middle size they go after 2 weeks or so, then into the tent. if I only add like 4 plants I veg them for 5 or 6 weeks 18 hours but with a NEON and then T5..

But as you said most take the HPS just fine from the start !

guys I think you just over complicate this 12/12 thing for others growers to follow.

I have a perpetual tent, 60x120cm, that is allways on 12/12. in it I have 8rows of 4 plants, 32 total when the tent is full with 1 400W and 1 600W HPS.

I move the plants from one end to another every week so it has 400 for the first half and 600 for the second half of flower period.

I have a mother plant in my living room and take 5-8 cuts from her every week.

those cuts are then placed into a small cupboard in the kitchen for the clones to make roots.

first they root in jiffy plugs of other clone plugs.

after a week they are put into a grodan rw cube 7,5x7,5cm and left for another week.

so after rooting/veging for 2 weeks, I pick the best 4 and they are ready to go into a flower tent.

I repeat the same thing every week.

cut - root in jiffy - transplant into RWcube - move to 5L coco pot in flower tent

this way I harvest 4 plants every week and put 4 new in flower.

I have the same mother for 3 years now and can harvest from 80-120g every week.

hope this helps, if not I can provide pictures and detailed photo intructions on already established and perfeted perpetual grow.

bless you all

keep on growing!

peace

Okay, that sounds perfect but since I strictly grew seeds so far and I do not always have enough in stock I do what I can. In this grow all I had was 6 seeds from a former damnesia grow. I hesitated to order seeds as long as I have a lot of nearly ripe plants at home. So i started with hese 6 seeds from an overripe plant and once i ran low on weed i ordered more seeds, That was when I started the other 8 I still got 6 in stock, so once I harvest the Damnesia I might start those 6 as the next upcoming crop. If I take a break then or get fresh seeds I do not know now. wished i had the cloning abiities others have. But in principle it is the same procere if you use clones or seeds-it only takes longer with seeds. Before that, whenn I had plenty seeds I worked the other way round - grow 8 first, then add 4 or 6, depending on the size of plants + pots. With these big plants all I can grow at once in 11 litre pots on a 1 by 1 space are 4 rows of 3, otherwise the branches overlap too much and I can forget the lower branches, If you ue clones you can trim those lower stems away and do it the SOG style, 32 plants and all you care for is the main cola-okay for clones but not my idea of growing nice and variied individuals with strong phenotypes. So to each his own. The idea is to have just enough weed for as long as possible and in that fashion I can reap 2 month fresh weed. I love the fresh buds-okay I stash some for long term curing, too but taste wisse nothing beatrs a nicely dried weed just cured out, that it does not hurt your throat..I grow as a hobby and to sustain myself a bit and one plant per week is fine with me. Sometimes 2 or 3, depending on the ripeness and weight per plant.

I like your style too Bam but I went with clones due to seed problems. I like to grow big outdoor trees froom seed but no more indoor. clones are much easyer and you already know what you gonna get. you mentioned the variations of Damnesia alone... well I like to se my grow to be even as posible and with as little effort as posible. and you can achive that solely by clones.

okay, a litle secret. I grow seeds on another place and than I bring home the best mother.

I would recomend you go clones too, just coz it's easy and reliable.
