Orange Hill Special & Purple Kush

Hi everyone, first time posting on here and just wanted to post pics of my current grow. Got 2 x orange hill specials and 3 x purple kushes on the go and just started flowering. I grow in soil in a grow cupboard a mate of mine helped cobble up and I use a sunmaster digital 600w Hps for flowering. Love the flexibility of the sunmaster as its the only 600w ballast I know of that dims down to 250w.  Here they are at day 13 of veg. The OHS are the two on the right and the rest are the purple kushes.

Hmm, not quite sure how to carry on writing underneath the pics I just uploaded it doesn't seem to give you that option. Anyway the pics are of veg from day 13 up to day 2 of flower. I would have liked to have labelled each individually though.

Thanks for the reply guys. Yes they seem to be coming along great, I only vegged them for 4 weeks before switching. I was considering a 5 or 6 week veg but I thought I might run into height issues if I did that. The OHS are quite vigorous in vegging while the purple kushes are slower starters but they catch up in the end.

Im keeping the nutes regime pretty light and simple on these. Im using good quality potting soil so I didn't feed them anything for the first 4 weeks except for some light foliar misting, and then gave them some bat guano when switching to 12/12.

Hope you guys don't mind but I just love showing pics of my buds. Below is a BLZ Bud I grew last year using a combination of Vipar 300w LEDs (actual draw of 180w) and a 250w Hps.  Came in at 54 grams dried and it was a very nice stony smoke.  The one in the background is a NL#5 x Haze.

Quick update. Plants are doing fine at the moment although I think I detect signs of overwatering in the lower parts of one of the OHS (limp droopy looking leaves) , have to cut down on the watering for that one I think.  They are now 7 days in flower.

Hey thanks Dusty for the info, will check it out. Playing around with the airflow to them at the moment to see which works better. Previously had the fan going constantly when lights are on but I think the airflow might be too much as there is zero humidity in the box so ive put it on a timer now like I did in the veg stage.

Hi guys. I could do with some help here.  Something appears to be wrong with my girls and for the life of me I cant figure out what it might be.

From getting off to a great start in flowering they now appear to be showing symptoms of overwatering which I cant figure out since I only ever water them when the soil is bone dry. I normally stick my finger into the soil to check for moisture. For some days now I have noticed the lower leaves have taken on a limp and droopy look to them and the general appearance of the whole plant as well looks limp instead of vigorous like they used to be. I thought at first it might have to do with my airflow being too great but now Im not sure.

They still don't look too bad at the moment but I want to nip this in the bud before it progresses further. Any input from you guys would be more than welcome. Any ideas whats wrong with them ?

I think I might have figured out the problem. I have never used a 600w light before so I failed to take into account the significant difference in heat output to a 400w lamp. I think my girls may be suffering from a touch of heat stress. I have raised the lamp now as far as it would go and  the ventilation fan is now on the go constantly as long as the light is on, lets hope that fixes the problem.

Seems 400 watts are eogh for the grow room, unless you can bring in a lot of fresh air via an input fan + tube. Check the hydro as well. If too dry get a humidifier. I noticed that my results were on a downward spiral adter moving from a regular living room back to a basement. Pus winter + electrical heat means dry bone air. around/less than 30%. These parameters are crucial for a healthy grow cycle with decent yields. Anyway. regarding the strains . I have smoked a lot of herbs grow in Orange Hill, Westmoreland BUT that was ong ago and most probably different strains. The Purple Kush is a top seller all over and they grow it in Orange Hill, too - check the Jamaica episode.

I just harveted my first pure Kush - (Special Kush from RQS) and man that is the best weed I ever grew from that seedbank. A deep long lasting stone from an incredible sticky tree and an aroma that makes you stoned from smelling alone. Next on the menu :  Greenhouse PURE KUSH l(ooks exactly like the Special Kush but it gets more of an amber, purple coloration when grown out properly in 9 weeks.)  In the end that is the exact herb te black afghan/Paki Hashish ir made from. A keeper in my garden- Beside the Caboose (Super Bud vs Trainwreck), The Exodus Cheese it is the best INDICA I know ! Also great  CHEMDOG aka OG KUSH vs NYC DIESEL, King's Kush (Grape vs KUSH), but it is the KUSH, that makes this stuff so great !

Yes that was the problem, the light was too close to the canopy and was causing them to wilt slightly. Since raising the lamp and putting my airflow back on constant they have really perked up again and you can see those big fat indica leaves reaching up to the light like a healthy plant should do and not lying flat or drooping.

Purple kush is one of my favs and I simply love the high from it. Never smoked the orange hill special before though.

Hi people, time for a quick update. The plants are doing fine. Despite raising my light as far as it would go I was still noticing some signs of distress from the plants so I swapped out the 600w bulb for a 400w Hps, I guess 600w is just too much for the size of my growbox.

In addition to the 400w hps I have also put my 300w Vipar IR Leds (actual draw of 180w) in the grow box making a total wattage of 580w so Im only sacrificing 20w and its a lot cooler.

Plants are now at that stage between end of two week stretch and formation of proper buds. Doing well so far, pretty impressed with how broad the purple kush leaves are, the OHS have a more sativaish look to the leaves.

Now on day 20.

A few more tantalising pics. There appears to be 2 phenos of the OHS. One shows a slightly broader leaf structure than the other and is also growing way taller. While the shorter OHS is starting to throw out pistils I still haven't seen any pistils to speak of on the taller OHS, although that might have to do with it being younger by a couple of days.

Hi there,

Like the looks of your sea of green  alot.

Do you consider lollipopping i was wondering if you do.

And wonder if you have a fan for the lower parts of the girls, so you have some air runnig underneath .

I shall follow your journal, keep up the good work !
