Hi, I have 4 seeds of ladyburn 1974, I bought 5 but gave one to my friend. I will be growing them in my greenhouse. I sprouted them in plastic cups and transplanted them in 3.5 l smart pots. For about 10 days they were growing under my ordinary room lamp, which I use for reading, and now they are in my greenhouse. I don't have the equipment for indoor growing, but I will buy some when i have more money, that is why they were under 60w lamp. I know they need much more light, but that is all I could give them this moment. I will put some pictures I've taken recently.

  • 2 weeks later...

Noone is answering my post. It is kind of discouraging...

Don't worry about it, this forum isn't the biggest and some people only check it once in a while. BUT! We're watchng you, even tho we don't reply ;)

Your plants look happy and healthy. Seems like they're getting the love they deserve.

I'm cursious about the soil you're using. Looks like original soil taken from the field or forest (judging by the weeds and amount of organic material present in it). Also wanted to ask, what climate are you in?

If I could give you a piece of advice, I'd say get rid of the weeds while they're small and push the soil a bit around the walls of the smartpots, you're getting some holes there through which the irrigation water may escape to the bottom of the pot not getting in contact with the root system. I see underwatering is not a problem here but it'd make the water distribution more even and may make a difference in the warmer period of the year.

I wish you good luck with your beauties.

Peace,

G.

Hello Gordon, thank you for answering my post, it is really kind of you . Now, I will answer the questions you asked. Concerning the soil, it is the soil from my property in my village. The soil that I put in smartpots, was taken near a pigsty, where my grandparents have two pigs. My grandmother chose it, because she has experience with agriculture, and I take her advice. We sieved the earth, and put it in smartpots. Earth in my village and on my property is generally good, because my grandparents have a garden there, and have several greenhouses with tomatoes, cucumbers and other cultures, so the earth was no problem. Concerning the climate, in my country there is a mixture of continental and mediterranian climate, we have cold winters and very hot summers with drought. That is why greenhouses are good because you can control the climate and because of irrigation. Concerning the weeds in smartpots, I saw it myself, and will do something about it. My problem is I live in a town, and my babies are in my village, so I go there on weekends, and my grandmother takes care of them during the week. She is a very good grandmother  , I couldn't have had a better one! I will do something about the earth in smartpots, maybe put some extra earth in, to shut the holes. I use Hesi fertilizer, momentarily Hesi TNT Complex, Hesi Power Zyme, and Hesi Vit. I told my grandmother to water them every day when there is heavy sun, and not to water when it rains. I will let the grow in smartpots for another 20 days, and then, I will be transplanting them directly in the earth. I will be doing that around 1st June. I will be posting new pictures when I go to my villager next time, it will be maybe in 10 days. I hope you like my plants. Thank you again for your post, it really means a lot to me. See ya

Hi all, I went to my village yesterday and I took some new photos, so here they are. It has been sunny over here, and babies are safe and sound in my greenhouse. They have everything they need. If anyone has some advice or suggestion, I am happy to hear it. Until next time.

Thank you for your replies. It does seem that the smallest one has something on her leaves. I don't know what is it, but she was smaller from the beginning than her sisters. They are fed with Hesi fertilizers TNT Complex, Power Zyme and Hesi Vit, do you have any suggestions to make her feel better? I did remove the weed from the smartpots, and I did put some more earth in pots. I thought to plant them outside the greenhouse on 1st June, but for security reasons, I will probably plant them directly in the ground inside the greenhouse.

Hi goat boy,

Like gordon says there are members that do watch your reports, so dont worry mate.

The soil used is local from the ground, did you measure the ph ever, does your grandma measure the water ph and ec, or do you just grow and see what happens.

I myself like to see a darker green leave, the lighter green leaves mostly show a lack of something or a overfeed on something, hard to say from a picture of course.

The soil might have clay in , did you check, if you wanna know how to check this , the best way is to dig a whole and por in some water, if it takes too long for the water to dissaper you know you have quit a bit of clay in the soil.

Maybe put in some perlite and clay pallets, the smartpots i love and gives to advantage of air and overwatering.

Keep up the work, we love it !

greetings from sunny spain

ps we have had the first mountain fires in the area, thats how dry it already is here

Hello Ganja XL, thank you fro posting. I am pretty sure that there is no clay in the soil I am using, but the problem might be overfeeding. As I said, during the week I am in my town, so my grandmother feeds them, and I told her to feed them every day!? Maybe I made the mistake. I am thinking of watering them every other day, and to feed them every other watering, maybe they will be better. Tomorrow I will go to my village, so I will make some more photos, and I will be posting again. Concerning the perlites, I was thinking of that, but in my country we don't have hydro stores, only option is to buy through paypal... You said it nicely, I just grow and see what happens xD I don't have the tools to measure Ph and Ec, but when I have some money, I will buy some measurement toold for sure.

Last year, I grew Arjan's Haze 3, I had 10 seeds, but my grandmother through away 9 of them and planted just one in our greenhouse. She told me about one planted seed in september last year, so I started feeding her only then, and in the end I harvested only 165g. She was 220cm tall. This year my grandmother is more soft, so I hope she doesn't cut my babies

As I said, I will be posting new pictures tomorrow.

See ya all, bye

Hi mate,

When you constantly water your girls the soil will stay very compact and the roots, which need air wouldnt grow as much as they could do.

So after a few days water them again, if the pots feel light you water them again..

I understand ots difficult because you are not the one watering them, but tell you grandma to take it easy on the girls lol

Perlite or vermiculte, or anthing that helps to hold water for a longer time helps, but doesnt do much when you water them as often as you are saying.

The arjan´s haze can do very well, ive hear a spanish grower got 3 kilo´s from one plant, which is great.

good luck and looking forward to the rest of your journal, and say hi to grandma from sunny spain

Hello all. I just got back from my village, and as I promised, I will be uploading some new photos. I have to say, I am pretty disturbed and depressed, because I saw some insects ate some leaves from the plants. If anyone has some suggestion how to deal with them, please say it. Plants have grown a bit since I took the photos last time. So here are the pictures.

I don't know what started eating them. My grandmother said that they were fine last time she watered them. Insects didn't touch tomatos! Even insects have good taste  xD I was worried yesterday, but I guess they will grow fine. Today I got a call from police, because I ordered cannabis oil from the Netherlands for my sick uncle. A.C.A.B. That is all I have to say. All cops are bastards!! I hope it will be nothing serious.

Till next time.

Great looking goat :)

I can see you are using root pouch pots.. it is very easy to judge when they need to be watered IF they are not too heavy for your Grandma ( what a good thing to have !!! ) to lift and judge by weight.

The plants you have do NOT need water everyday, judged by pure eyesight, size of pots & size of plants tell me that you have at least 3 days inbetween waterings.

If you water them too often, you lock out oxygen, which is heavily needed by your roots to thrive. Do not water the pots unless they are "light" again. Lift a fresh watered pot a proper way, straight up while standing above it, not with stretched arms, all pots are heavy on a stretched arm,  if it feels way lighter, than you can water.

Rule by thumb with soil and root-pouch is 2.5L water per 8L soil ( we use 8 & 16L pouches and need 2.5 or 5L for each pot when light & dry ).

IF you water the 8L pot and water starts to run out after 1.5L you had 1L left in there...  you see the idea ??

Let them breath well, the roots, and the color will get better and not that lightened green ( too much water indicator usually )

I grew Ladyburn 1974 in 2012 when they were still testseeds only, very very nice strain, grows like a tall hybrid and loves topping, internides are somewhat larger than most others, it needs space. Taste is perfect for a coffee round, social and well tasting, some nut, choco and coffee taste surrounds the smoke, very pleasant.

Have a good grow

Whenever you take it out of the pot into mama earth, the biggest pot we can have, you can water ever day. Those plants can get realloy big and thursty outside, 20-50L water per day could be...haha...and flush every 2-3 weeks the latest, regardless if pot or outdoors. Outdoors can bery very water consuming but if u use salt based fertilizer you better flush them too, 100-400L water..yes...sounds funny..is funny...water games :)

Thank you FIM for your post very much!! Every suggestion and advice is much appriciated, especially when you are a beginner grower like myself. In some of the previous posts, I said that I told my grandmother to water the plants every day!?! I myself realized that it wasn't a good idea. Then I read something on the internet that roots need oxygen, so I watered the plants with pure water on Sunday, and told my grandmother not to water them for 7 days, so they can get enough oxygen. I am thinking of watering them twice a week. I am learning still, and I guess I made a beginner's mistake of overwatering and overfeeding. I will change that. On 1st June I will be transplanting them directly in the soil, so no big smartpots this year, maybe next year!? I have to prepare myself with equipment. I guess they will go into flowering in middle of august, maybe before!?! Nevertheless, I am looking forward... If I have realized something in life, it's that growing cannabis plants, is better than sex, and every other knowable pleasure known to mankind. When I grow my babies, I feel like I am in heaven.

Goat master,

If you want to know when your ladies need water and they are still in pots the best way is to pick them up and feel the weight, i am not sure if your wonderful grandma is able to do that but you are when you are there. They do need air, and do need water, but just remember that they need less water in the beginning of your grow, they are like babies at first, thats the way to know, and if you treath them right they will grow and grow and give you a wonderfull gift / GANJA .

Good grow mate, appreciate your journal !

Thanx Ganja XL for comments and advice, it is much appriciated. Last year I messed up my grow with Arjan's Haze 3, but this year it is already going better! I think it is not enought just to read about it, you have to start growing and to face the problems for real to learn how to grow. I guess every mistake is valuable, because after you have made a mistake, you learn how you should have done. I will be posting new pictures on the weekend maybe sooner, don't know yet. I called my grandmother 30 minutes ago, she says the plants are growing, there are no more grass and weed around them, it has been taken care of.

See you soon

Well, it`s actually easy if you stick to a few rules and avoid all mistakes beginners usually do.

Look, I have a friend, Joe, Joe's got a friend, Bob, who's a grower for several years with mixed results though his equipment is up to date in most concerns.

Joe asked me if I would assist him in his first grow as he got 4 clones from Bob and he would like me to come over and have a look at them.

Well, the first thing I saw were some 4 plants, far too tall for their weight and leave count, tiny stems, not-so-nice leaves etc..overall 3 out of 10 points, 2 more mishaps and they would be

dead.

Joe did all I told him to do and was patient, as I told him it would take 1 week until he would see it's going back up and a 2nd 'n' 3rd week in which he would not believe those are the same plants before going to flower.

He repotted them into selfmade 30L root-pouches, took good soil and used some Motherplant Powder Feed i gave him to try instead of the bottles he got with the used equipment. Many bottles, many colours, I knew what they were for but he didnt..lol..not a good start to work with fertilizers if you start with 5+ bottles and no clue what is what. Well, PF MP fixed it, that much up front.

He also invested in a better reflector, AAW Avenger medium, added a 2nd 400W bulb with a DIY job, so he know can go 400 or 800W MH or HPS in the tent. 400W is ok for MH veg but will not get you the big buds for a 1.4m x 1.4m tent. 600 would be all it needs I gues for good results but 800 is even better ;)

I showed him how to flush and use Powder Feed MotherPlant without EC and PH meter, which is fairly easy and totally OK for soil if you stick to the given dosages printed on the pack.

PF will lower your PH to an acceptable value if your water is not higher than PH 8.0 and you dont go higher than 1.8 EC. That's how far I have done it without EC and PH. I used a EC and PH meter to measure his tab water and found out it works without further PH adjustment for the beginning, until he had its own meters.

After 2 weeks his plants mostly recovered and in week three his plants looked really nice. Leaves that didnt recover were taken out as so many new leaves and sprouds came up that we trimmed the planned clean and took the lower ⅓ off.

By that time I saw Bob's grow first time, same small pots, underfertilized, overwatered, defs, etc..  he asked me what to do as they were in late week 5 which I could see and smell.

Well, week 5 in flower, having a 9 weeker plant is a tricky thing to fix, repotting us useless, too late, too low N has an easy fix...Motherplant EC 1.7... for the rest... well...we would see.

As he did not flush them ever but only gave water last 10 days I told him to flush the plants THOROUGHLY, each and every one, then go and buy some more PF ( I gave him some 100gr to get the fix ) and feed them after the flush with EC 1.7 and a fairly low PH for soil and the stage of plant, which I say would be 6.0 to ease N intake.

After a few days I said he would see the results in leaves turning greener again BUT told him that by that time, in 1-2 weeks ( he planned to flush them all next weekend ) he must almost already start to think about getting the N out of the plant again. I tried to make him aware of the drame ahead. You try to fix a deficit while knowing that you want to get it out right after that..  so dont loose time.

He flushed for 5 hours in his bathroom..LOL

He also said, next week after the flush and PF MP fix, all plants' health recovered..but the buds would remain smaller than they should be for a 600w bulb.. I know the strain, I actually have the same clone... it can get way bigger.

Joe instead listended from the beginning on and was working hard, he learned a lot and had to trust many times cause plants take time to show results of your deeds.

Joe had Bob over lately to show him what the clones have become by now.

Bob's yaw dropped :)

Joe's stems were at least, I'd say 3-5 times bigger than Bob's. Well, no wonder, 8L vs. 25-30L root-pouch and good fertilzer from the start up.

Joe's buds are bigger in general and more in count, the space covered by 4 plants outyields the same space used by 12 plants. ( maybe more, didnt count them 1 by 1 ).

That all speaks against Bob's grow and for Joe.

Joe did not do miracle things, he actually never had to flush that hard as Bob had to...LMAO

Joe had to water less and thus less work, he used 30L root-pouches but checked run off water and feedings soon after start with a new EC and PH meter to be precise.

Bob has EC and PH meter too, he just didnt use them that way and never really understood the watering principle of cannabis as he stated himself afterwards.

Bob saved his yield by flushing and paying close attention to what you feed and how you feed it. His harvest was ok but he expects much better results on his next grows

as he now knows what to avoid, its not that you HAVE TO do wonders, just avoid certain things and you are half way there.

Joe is happy, he is looking at 4 wonderful girls, each one strain of different height but one canopy ( which Bob not had until I told him ) and overall good looking.

He flushed them twice already but the NL#5 & Haze which still goes on & on. The other 2 strains, 2 Red Cherry Berry and 1 Skywalker have been flushed for the final days

and he is waiting as long as it takes for them to ripe and yellow out, so he does not have left overs in the plant that would not need to be there. It takes patience, some good mother soil, little fertilizer, lots of water and some hard work and there you have it, your very own, self grown, first time ever Ganja :)

What I want to say is, all I told Joe was nothing that is not written in all those books, common stuff, basics about many plants, not only cannabis.

If you start to grow, keep it simple, choose easy strains for the first grows, dont do many strains at once, 1 strain per run is fine for the beginning and not a shame.

Water correctly, this is the number 2 killer for beginners, number 1 is too much fertilizer and #3 is too little fertilizer. All that is easy to fix.

My first grow was soil under 400hps, wrong soil, no flushing, harvested way too early, not too bad but back then I knew it must work better, as there are buds around that proof it :).

We then invested in an ebb&flow table system, more hps, better fans etc. and good a few hours with a guy who got me started, I just sucked everything he knew into me, noted the values for EC and PH and went off.

Those were good results, buds were like 1000 times bigger compared to what we had on our 1st grow.

All seed packs back then I used were Sensi Seed seeds from 1995, so the seeds were of good quality on both grows, what made the difference was not only the table setup, it was the knowledge that guy infused into me, the sensibility for certain things and easy ways to avoid big problems.

From that point on I knew that it not only needs the love to the plant Cannabis but also some background knowledge about gardening in general and some cannbis specific things.

I bought Jorge Cervantes Book after nt finding Ed anymore in my mess after all those years and I have to say, those books are real good if you need to identify a pest or def which you havent seen before etc..  and they give great help for beginners, a must have if u grow.

Watch those educational grow videos, they teach you alot and after watching many dozens you will find your own wisdom among that info, your own style.

Your style grows as a plant grows, you change it as you advance, I did soil first, ebb&flow 2nd for a few crops, then Hydro wit Waterfarmsand some fancy pipes with free roots inside, then soil again, then coco and now I think that

I have tested enough to find that after all those tries and different styles, I like soil best, for many reasons. It is also the common trend these days I think, back to the roots, back to soil, back to landraces, back to weed that doesnt knock you over on 1st drag but is social and relaxing.

Hi guys, today I went to village and some changes have been made. First I will upload pictures of plants from smartpots, and then I will upload pictures when I transplanted them directly in the soil. I guess they have been stressed a bit, but my grandmother assures me they will be ok. So, I am uploading the pictures, and if you have any comments and advice or suggestions, you are more than welcome. Also, sorry for the quality of pictures, I take photos with my phone, and greenhouse is small so there is no space for good photos. Next set of photos, if everything goes well with the plants, will be for about 14 days when I go to my village again. Until next time, goatboy out.

And here are the pics of them transplanted directly in the soil. It was quite a job I must confess, I thought it would be much easier to transpant them, you have to watch out not to damage their roots, and to prepare the site for transplanting. I watered them after they have been transplanted, and I HOPE they will be fine. Here are the photos.

And I have a question. I am thinking of buying powder feeding for ladyburn, and I have a question. Do you use hybrid powder feeding only for flowering period and for vegetative stage you use powder feeding for mother plants, or you can use hybrid mix through all periods of growth?

Hesi fertilizer is fine, but since ladyburn is greenhouse seed, I am seriously thinking of buying powder feeding.

Goatboy out.
