cureing thieory

8 posts in this topic

hi so i realized that cannabis is a fruit and that the cure is like when you put a green pear in a bag to rippen it off the tree. so if you let it grow to full mature then it should have those flavors that take months of cure to pull out, you still have to jar cure the ripe buds to smooth/ draw/ define the taste better, but it seems that many strains flavors n smell change week to week.

You are right there brother. But i say more like the old saying "it's like a fine whine".
Smell, taste and effect changes over time. That´s why drying and curing a weed is so important. It can take years before a grower find his/her style of growing/drying.
How you grow your weed and when you harvest is also a key factor for smell, taste and potency.

So drying is really up to the consumer himself?

All over the internet you hear cureing is one of the most important things... Is there some good literature discussing this?

''good article'' would indicate it has correct information... hehe

he says 40-55% humidity in drying, well anything under 50 is way too low and there wont happen any curing/fermentation,  it just wont happen because its not possible to happen......

and the curing   ''rest it in a dark place, at constant temperature around 16-18 degrees and low relative humidity (between 40 and 55%). Every week or so open the jar and let it breath for 30 minutes to an hour. Repeat for several weeks, until the product is cured. ''

bud does not cure at 40-55% realtive humidity... that is just way too low for the biochemical processes to happen, it just wont happen because its not possible for the process to occure at that low humidity:D
there will not happen any curing like this,    try 55-62% for success wshen curing  and 50-60 when doing the initial drying

the drying part of it is actually curing also, its not separate

the numbers have been studied also and there is a two way humidity curing product based on the values, its called boveda pack that holds humidity at 62% for perfect  bud curing   thats right 62%

''the perfect buds are crispy, and break easily''    lol  crispy buds means no real curing

@jankahar

I agree about the boveda packs, they do a great job, however, my personal opinion is that the 62% is still too wet. I usually put them in my jars for about 1-2 weeks and then take them out again, otherwise the buds are too wet to smoke.

I don't like my buds crispy either but the stem should snap and not bend when i break the bud open.

Anyways I dry and cure by feeling and I don't check the humidity in the jars so I can not agree or disagree on numbers. However I have some buds cured for 1.5 years and the taste is fantastic, although I have the feeling that after 11-12 months the effects are changing, probably because of the THC degrading to CBN.

yes, they can feel a bit moist for smoking straight from boveda container, or hard to mix but it will still burn perfectly  and taste so much smoother.    cigars are kept at 70-75%      normal tobacco around 65%

but i was talking strictly about curing and that the curing wont happen at those low humidity levels franco says to use

curing doesnt work like that, the buds must have that  12-15% moisture content for it to continue in jar like franco mentions.  yet he also talks about crisp bud but crisp bud is not close to 12-15%   12-15% feels spongy but not wet

i use hygrometers at all stages of drying and curing  and aim to keep it at 55-60. when they get to jar the boveda does rest of work

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
