Jankahar's Slex test grows

What a nice bunch of excellent plants ou got there. seems you have less differences in phenotypes than i do. I had one growing fat colas in a more Indica fashion that was also completely redy after full 9 weeks - 63 days but I also got a typical HAZe pheno, that showed no signs of Indica whatsoever and that was ready after 74 days, a few days before the 11 week schedule the SLEX was announced at. I prefer this pheno. It has a much milder aroma, more lime than lemon and the high is great, Boh phenos are extremely strong esp. the frst 15 minutes can get a tad too much for a moment but then the high gets more and more enjoyable, uplifting and downright funny- typical Sativa but not that racey type. More balanced thanls to the Exodus heritage I guess. Great medicinal value, excellent slee aid- Like you said. Definitely top notch strain with a lot of potential, It looks great, brownish, yellow with lots of red hars, nice structure, covered in trichomes just asking a self respecting grower for a good cure. Even 1 week of curig made a big difference in looks, smell + taste vs a just dry bud. One of the best looking buds I ever grew (and the HAZE looks even beter)..YDo you grow more SLEX in the near future ?

full 10 weeks down, i cut rest of the big colas today

oh boy the nr1 has heavy  heavy resin coverage and amazing bud/leaf ratio and the smoke is super strong almost same as my keeper slh. the nr3 is milder and sweeter but most ripe out of them all and smallest nug size too it is almost too ripe now full of amber on it and the last weeks cut have lots of amber too after drying so i could have taken the nr3 completely down after 9 weeks im pretty sure.

the nr1 is very nice now after 10 weeks with small amounts of ambers and clears but mostly milky, the last weeks cuts have quite a bit of clear in them but they are still good and strong smoke

the nr2 and nr4 seems to have wider harvesting windows than the two thinner leafed plants 1&3, like they could continue to the 11week as they are stillp pushing new pistils but they are definetly good and heavy now and calyxes have swollen with ambers showing all around. the last weeks cuts are very nice also and strong smoke but yeah this pheno seems to have very long harvesting window to cut down

there is definitely 3 phenotypes i have identified in the 4 first plants bam. like i have talked about  3 phenos from the very first days of growing them, as seedlings in veg and in flower there was 3 different looking plants all the time. i have not tryed them as sleep aid at all or talked about sleep either, actually i have slept very bad lately due to lack of sun here and ive been up very late every night bam hehe so you are thinking someone else:D

1&3 both have thinner leaf shapes with inward turning serration edge but the buds are totally different and they smell different too, nr1 more sour lime/lemon and nr3 sweet. the nr1 resin coverage is amazing it is just like the slh phenotype i have but more lime taste and nr3 has smaller looking glands and is weaker smoke

2&4 seems to be same phenotypes with fatter leaf shape from 1&3 and the serration edge is outward turning unlike the 1&3 the differences are very clear. and they look completely different from both nr1&3  they both got berry&fruity smell mix a bit like exodus cheese but i still need to make proper smoke comparison with the nr4 if its same with nr2

anyways, since i dont have any reason to put new plants in flower tent at the current state i decided to leave some smaller buds on each plant and leave in tent so they are not fully done:D

mite situation has not gone any worse or better, i should get the predators tomorrow or friday so i will know better about future plants and next slex run in few weeks

I had a wrong impression . Now I see that No 2 is also a real tall plant. You just turned her sideways. That is the problem with these HAZE phenoes. They stretch too much for a usual tent if you just let them grow. I finally bent and pressed the stem under the top , so it gets flexible and stopped the shooting. 2 and 4 look best to me but they are all excellent loooking and I bet each pheno got a lot niceness to offer. Good luck with the bugs. Hope the predators gets them all. Biggest problem are the eggs. So make sure to erase all soil and sterilize the pots - or get new ones..

Jankahar, I would be interested to learn of your source for the predators.  Do you order online or from a local store?

Are they ladybugs or some kind of wasp?

Jankahar, I would be interested to learn of your source for the predators.  Do you order online or from a local store?

Are they ladybugs or some kind of wasp?

they are from a local company that grows some species and some they order from other beneficial bug growers inside europe once a week, there are many online shops that sell them in central europe like germany

the ones i bought are predator mites (Amblyseius californicus) but there are different predator mite species against the two spot mite and other bugs for different humidity ranges/climates. you can use several species same time also

the companys usually sell atleast 20-30 different predator insect and bug species for different plant pests, some are specialised for one bug while others eat many things, also the wasps for different pests, ladybugs and ladybug larvae for aphid control mostly

i have also used them for other bugs, soil dwelling gnat predator mite was specially effective, they still live inside some of my pots after long time and im staying gnat free so far

yeah, thanks  for reminding santa:) i have been delaying it a bit hehe.

all the nuggets are from the 9week batch when i cut best pieces, as you can see they are very ripe specially 3 and the 4

nr3 is over ripe for my taste:D it is a bit milder too and i need to smoke it alot more to get effects, looks like i cut it week or so too late hehe

the nr1 is by far strongest of them but 2&4 are not weak strains either and they got amazing smells and tastes too

the nr1 is super strong phenotype very much like the skinny tall super lemon haze phenotype i have horded that gets covered with resin everywhere even the stems, just with added lime taste and smell:)just harder to get good yield out of her

i forgot to show the nr5 and nr6 plants thought there wasnt much to update while i was waiting for the predator mites to do there thing as i didnt know if i could even continue growing these 2 plants or start all over again

so far it looks like the predators are working great i am not completely in clear waters yet but the predators have made the bastard mite numbers go much lower and i have yet to see any webbing in plants and i cant find  eggs just some adult stragglers in nr5 lower branches, rest of my house seems to be totally clear of them, fingers crossed i can keep it like this with the biological control, i wouldnt mind couple stragglers if i dont have to use any poisons or toxins on my plants

anyway here is the nr6 seed in dwc bucket, the same plant that almost died earlier and lost all the fan leafs :D i barely managed to recover her back and now shes back growing with good vigor, she is at 7th day of flowering now so i am expecting the heads to start forming flowers any day now

and the nr5 slex is near finish at day 57  7-10~days left

this fatter leafed cheese leaning phenotype like the nr2 and nr4 will make a perfect commercial plant i think medium-high strenght excellent taste/smell, great yields with very low amount of training and work from grower. that thinner slh leaning pheno, seed nr1 will need a bit more work to make well as commercial since it has so much wider spacing on buds thought it is also super strong and good tasting, too strong for any newbies hehe

Nr 5 is looking great. Nr 6 leaves look stressed out. What bugs are attacking her and what did you use to get rid of them ?

I received a 100 ml bottle ofED ROSENTHALS's HERBAL PESTICIDES Concentrate- made only from natural products- aetheric oils + leaves from 4 different herbsand NEEM. Spray a bit on the top and back of the leaves and do the same 10 dayslater. Best is you can use it during all tages of growth + flowering. Not harmful to pets or kids.

The shhet, that comes with the bottle shows 12 pests, that the solution can take care off. I could spot the 2 types, that I had to deal with. First it was White Flies, later on mushroom mosquitos 'fungus gnat' Thankfully my room is bug free atm. But it is a good feeling to have some kind ofprotection. Developed by one of the real Cannabis activists from decades ago..

Yum yum .. I see only big cola covered with resin.
Really great job with these ledy, and a very nice locking!
Surely still waiting for the production of crystals will be higher, but this is just my personal opinion.
Good cut, and good drying! ;)

day 65 for the slex nr5 and day 15 for nr6 in the dwc, i will harvest the nr5 today before lights come up again

looks like i timed the feeding pretty well with nr5 it has used all reserved nutrients from fan leafs and from the medium at steady pace and dropped most of the fan leafs in past few days without doing any flushing to the pot.

i peaked the nutrients about 14-16 days before expected harvest date at around 1.2ec with some extra calcium and P for the finish and than started gradually lower the amount of food towards the finish 0.9->0.6->0.3ec and so on, last 3 waterings it had only ph balanced water to use up whats left in pot, i have done it in similar fashion with all plants for past 5 years with no need to flush as long as any of the nutrient elements have not build up too high.

im avoiding the flush because the plants need a steady pace of immobile nutrients on the feed when you want it to use up the nutrients that has been stored inside the plant otherwise it can go in to a lockout state if it suddenly lacks one of the immobile nutrients like calcium or iron, in worse case scenario it will make the bud mold up

this way you dont waste the nutrients like many nutrient sellers want you to do and you dont pollute the nature and the seas with them, the over use of nutrients and wasting (flushing) is a huge issue all around the globe at the moment no matter if you are small or large scale growers it contributes in stressing the land, clean water sources, animals and seas.

and it is only getting worse due to greedy quick fix attitudes by gold digging growers that are in it for just money and have zero interest in learning how plants actually eat, drink and live naturally. sorry for ranting about it:umnik: but it is important subject to me and i want others to know why i never flush the plants or wont condone it,  plants dont need to be flushed when you know how to grow plants

the mites seem to be gone hihi, the other marks you see on nr6 plant and the earlier plants are made by thrips, the species is possibly a western flower thrip

i had big revelation about this pest yesterday while reading the internetz :D  i learned that these thrips also eat the spider mite eggs haha no wonder the infestation stayed in check so easy even before i bought the other predators albeit they prob ate the predator eggs also lol,

even tho they are plant pests and can cause some harm if numbers never got out of control, at low numbers they can help out too

also my buds have been totally clean of the thrips and other pests and all the parts that grow resin, they seem to avoid the plant resins and they dont fly around and get stuck in buds like gnats do so there is no harm to the product quality but yields might have suffered a bit

i started 4 new slexes couple weeks ago, this is day 13-14  the start was little bit slow again in cool temps and with my low veg light levels but they are starting to catch up to speed now i will also update the veg tent lights a bit later this week, the thrips have also nibbled plants a bit again but spider mites are totally gone now:D with the help of the thrip larvae i assume and the predator mites

i gave the seeds a short soak overnight and planted them directly to recycled coco/compost mixture, they got first repot about week to liter~ pots(lil late hehe) and next i will pot to the same 6liter pots i used earlier but i have not decided on final flower pot size yet

it looks like i didnt get the thin haze leafed phenos this time like in the first batch, thought im hoping to find that wide leafed nr4 with more berry taste and purple color, prob keep both nr2 and nr4 for a while they are both excellent too

that nr5 plant gave me huge yield same pheno as the nr2 the 11 top colas i cut  and showed in last post were about 130grams alone trimmed+ all the lower bud

some chili pics too, pods are developing rapidly and soon i will have as much as i can eat hehe    this variety is  Ultra pube,  C.Pubescens

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
