    Hellow fellow growers i would like to start with thanking GHS for giving me this grate opportunity,i know its getting late but i should of started this grow in jan but was moving to a new flat in feb so had to put the cup on hold now we all have settled in its time to start growing again ,so here i go WELCOME TO CHRONIC GROWERS WORLD CUP GROW JOURNAL FEACHERING MONEY MAKER Equipment list Green room 100 grow tent (1.2m x 1.2m x 2m). 600w lumatek digital dimmable ballast. 600w sunmaster dual spectrum mh & hps bulbs. Cooltube reflector 5” rvk 125 extractor fan 250m3/hr. 5” phat filter 125mm x 300mm (408m3/hr) 5” duct pipe Arcadia dual t5 12% uvb/uva strip lights with reflectors. Strip heater with thermostat for night heating( if temperature is to low) Digital mix/max recording thermometer/hygrometer. Clip on oscillating fan. Aeroponic propagator ,water/air pumps ,air curtain & water heater. Bluelab PH and EC pens with cleaning / calibration kits. Dutch pro ph down veg/bloom & ph up. Jiffy 7s 50mm coco coir fibre plug. Plant training bendz (for bending branches to get more light) Yo Yos (for plant support) 10 x 1 gallon root pouches. Coco pro plus, and perlite. Ghs mother plant & mostly indica powder feed. Liquid Oxygen Cal/Mag supplement (if needed) Clip on normal light bulb for taking photos Preparation of grow room Sterilizing The Grow Room 16/02/2013 First of all i got my protection from the cleaning products, a breathing mask, eye protection, and old clothes, I'm using a diluted liquid oxygen, mixed with water at the rate of 5 ml per litre, I've pored the solution into a spray bottle then sprayed/wiped down my lights and reflectors(while turned off), extractor fan,duct pipe (inside n out),oscillating fan ,the whole grow tent,lights reflectors, pipettes and even all the wires i set up all the equipment,after i sterilized my fabric root pouches (after cleaning them with plain water to get all soil debris out) in a bucket with a mixture of 10 ml per litre of liquid oxygen then left it over night to soak ,then dried ready to be filled. now its time to sterilize my aeroponic propagator , I set it all up, water/air pumps ,air curtain & water heater. Added water and 10 ml per litre of liquid oxygen to the water tank switched it on and let it run over night ,the next day I empted the water out of the tank replaced it with fresh water an let it run for an hour empted it now its ready to go, Clean And Calibrate Ph & Ec Pens first i cleaned my Ph probe by using a tooth brush and a gel type soap that came with my kit i have 2 plastic containers that i filled with cold boiled water from my kettle, im using 1 container for cleaning and the second for rinsing my probe. i applied the gel to the brush and gently cleaned the glass bulb and metal temperature probe then dipping the probe and brush into the container with soapy dechlorinated water, then repeat cleaning a few more times to make sure ive cleaned any chemical residue off the glass and metal probes, i rinsed the probes with dechlorinated water, then with another tooth brush i cleaned the probes in the other container with the clean dechlorinated water get get rid of any soap,the reason i use dechlorinated water is that chlorine in normal tap water is a chemical and can leave residue on the probes which may give inaccurate readings. Thou it would be a lot cleaner water if I used distilled water. Which I don't have at the moment , will get one for next grow hopefully. Now my probes are clean i dried them ready for calibration ,i pored a Ph solution of 7 and 4 in 2 separate containers i first calibrated my pen to 7 then rinsed the probe in dechlorinated water dried the probes then calibrated it to Ph 4 rinsed and dried. now for my Ec pen, the same method applied with the rinsing and drying like with the ph pen but instead of cleaning with a tooth brush and soap it comes with a cream and flat padded type brush, this cream seems to be taking a layer off my ec probe so when cleaning i brush very gently in a curricula motion to be careful not to take to much off ,cleaned and calibrated to 2.8 then in a 1.4 Ec solution, my pen only calibrates to the 2.8 solution, the 1.4, i got separate and is used only to double check the pen is reading fine. both pens are now ready to go, sorted. Germination Date 17/02/2013 For germination I shall be using my aeroponic propagator to maintain the right temperature and humidity. I filled the propagator tank with dechlorinated water that I left in a open bucket for 48 hours to dechlorinate took an Ec reading that was at 0.2 very soft water in my area , im sure im going to end up with a calcium deficiency but we will wait and see. I then added ghs mother powder feed to the water till I had an Ec reading of 0.7 , set the Ph to 5.5, put in the water heater ,set at 23c and air curtain (which is like a long flexible air stone pipe ) switched on the air pump and water pump ,then filled a glass with water with a Ph of 5.5 place the glass on the planting shelf then added the 10 money maker seeds which sank to the bottom, put on the propagator lid with air vent closed to rise the humility and temperature, the temperature with light off in my grow tent is 20.3c at 2 feet high just 2 feet under my grow light,temperature at plant level is 21.2 humidity at 72%. In the meanwhile Stabilizing Ph in jiffy coco coir fibre plugs I filled a bucket up of dechlorinated water adjusted the Ph to 5.5 then added to jiffy plugs to the bucket and left for a few hours, came back to to check the Ph which was now reading 5.4 so I raised the Ph to 5.5 again and left over night then rechecked the Ph , reading 5.5 stabilized accomplished I then added the jiffy plugs to the aeroponic propagator ready for the seeds to go in. Back to germination Date 18/02/2013 After 12 hours the first 2 seeds cracked so I planted them into the jiffy plugs about 1/2 inch deep with the root at the top pointed downwards but before I planted them I checked the Ph that was reading 5.5 and Ec at 0.7 all good no change there ,with the rest of my seeds I doubled up on toilet paper to form a thick layer on a plate, poured the seeds and water on to the toilet paper ,wrapped up the seeds and put it in the propagator with the plate upside down to keep the seeds in the dark put on the lid my aeroponic propagator an left for 24 hours. Date 19/02/2013 All have cracked so I planted them all into my jiffy plugs and switched on my grow light with the MH duel spectrum bulb for vegetative growth one of the first seeds that cracked the day before is starting to pop out the jiffy plug im going to name this plant (first lady) he he I came back after 2 hours to check the temperature that is reading 32 with my propagator lid on so I left the lid off then came back to check the temperature after an hour that now reads 27c still a little to hot I think so I clipped my fan onto my aeroponic propagator pointing to cool down that area now the temperature is reading about 25c with lights on that's good enough for me water temperature is reading 23c that's all good to, humidity is a little low at 49 but im not to concerned its at 70 at ground level I believe its only reading 49 because of the fan. Date 22/02/2013 Ok all my seeds have shot up out of the jiffy plugs still with shell hats on apart from first lady who is nearly free, the temperature and humidity are all fine but when I checked the Ph and Ec of the water it is starting to rise, due to the fact that the water is evaporating leaving a higher Ec and Ph levels, Ph was reading at 5.6 and Ec at 0.9 so I added more dechlorinated water at a lower ph 5.4, slowly poured the water in my aeroponic propagator tank till I got the Ph of 5.5 and Ec to 0.7 I used about 2little of water,now all is back to normal,sweet as.

    Hello Hunters..... the Cup Grow is runnin gd and now i decided to also start my first normal Grow Journal over here.... it will be my 5th Grow and my second run on the Special Kush. I decided to Grow them again cause i liked the Smoke it helped me a lot with my Insomnia and they are Cheap and Easy to Grow(this time im going for better Yields). The Ehttp://www.strainhunters.com/forums/topic/5876-urban-ninjas-japaneese-green-garden/xodus Cheese is also the Company in the Flower Tent of my Cup Caboose but i decided to do another one cause i need to save som smoke of that tasty Stuff..... So here my Plan for the Grow.....: I will veg them under my 200 w Cfl in my Closet wich is 85x50x150cm for at least 6-8 weeks and then they will move to the Flower Tent which still is the Secred Jardin Dark Room Street 60 with 60x60x140cm runnin with 400 watts Hps Cooltube and a 200cbm Carbon Fliter and 180cbm outtake Fan. I got the Tent in a cold Room so i got Temps in the Tent Lights on 20-23 Degrees Celsius and Lights of 15-17 Degrees Celsius. I will go with 5,6 Liter Pods and use the Bio Bizz All Mix Soil always got gd Results with it but this time im thinking to mix it with some Coco to get better Root development. Fertilizer gonna be the Powder Feed i use for the Start the Mostly Indica and when Santa brings me some Money i will get the Hybrid one too.     Hi guys this is only my second grow report and I have luckily been sent some White Strawberry Skunk (WSS) Seeds and 1 Kg of Hybrid Feed, to enter this great competition. It was my intention to get these growing after my first dable with GHS, but as in everyone's lives things conspire against us. Anyway soil finally sorted and ready to grow. I was a little concerned at the lack of grow reports for WSS and problems with a couple of the other reports i had read and was a bit worried. So i will also be growing the remaining seed I had from my last grow! A GH White Rhino with GHF and a White Widow freebie from Royal Queen. I am going to compare my normal Hesi feed Vs Green House Hybrid feed (GHF), so this being the case I have planted 6 WSS seeds, three will be fed with Hesi and 3 with GH Powderfeed , I only planted them Friday and to my amazement and excitement 3 have just appeared, did not do anything to fancy when sewing my seeds, got some small pots and filled with shop bought easy mix, Soil with and worm cast, pumice stone,twigs etc Ph 5.8 - 6.2 . I then poked a hole aproximatley 10-15 mm below the surface and popped in my seeds, gave them a drop of warm water and left them in a dark warm cupboard. 4 days later here we go. They will also get some clay pebbles when i need to replant them into there 12 litre pots. Getting ahead of myself already, patience. Once the others have sprouted I will leave them in the daylight for a day, then move them under a 400w HPS for vegging. I will leave them there until they reach the 4th internode. They will be sharing the light during vegging with 3 DP Think different Autoflowers , so to waste as little light as possible, once they are ready for flowering will spread the plants below 2 x 400 HPS. I also have a fan or two for the grow room and that is all. Quite a basic setup, but i believe if you get the fundamental basics right (Heat, light and feed/water), then you can achieve decent results. So hope you enjoy the report.     Hey Guys & Girls, time for a new journal now that Spring in soon upon us. I thought I'd start off 5 x Big Bang Autos under 125cfl blue vegging light on 20/4 to give them a really good start before I put out in greenhouse to finish the flowering process. I should be able to grow them for about 4/5 weeks under the light in the loft tent before they get too big and have to go outside. I also have to get the greenhouse built, it is currently in bits up the side of my house! A month should give me time, I have to get down old plastic one and then make hard surface to put greenhouse on. Put seeds into overnight soak yesterday and will leave till tomorrow then they will go in Root Riot germination cubes and straight into soil, probably 20cms pots to start. That's it for now, day one should be Saturday. Toaor

    hi fellow growers, well after a year of seeking info and gathering supplies i decided that i will start to grow my own weed. it been a long road but i'm finally there. here are some pics from the girls. i'm in day 8 now from seed, and day 2 under 400 watts hps. and have a little problem with the humidity, can't get it higher than 55. hope i'm doing alright so far, every tip is welcome. and will be uploading once or twice a week, keep growing. bless

    High together, I want to welcome you to my Autoflowering Grow Journal. After my White Widow (GHSC) harvest and drying procedure I put 3 Kalashnikova Auto seeds to germinate. Today the 3 seeds where put in soil, after germinating them with the Greenhouse method. (soak for 24h, then put on wet toiletpaper for 24h) The top of the pots where covered with plastic foil to create a humid enviroment. (initial root lengths when planted: about 4mm) The first medium I am using for my seeds is a premixed soil mix with perlite and low nutrition made by "ASB GREENWORLD". [N:150-500 mg/L,P2O5: 40-300 mg/L, K2O: 50-400 mg/L] My Kalashnikovas will recieve Greenhouse Powder Feeding when first growing stage is over (i guess in about 3 weeks) Everybody starts their Journals with some nice pics, right now I havent got any but will ad them soon when the babys sprout. All of us just have to be a bit patient untill we can see our babys.

    Its Time for another Seedtest of Urb the Ninja.....This Time GHSC Damnesia(Amenesia x A.M.S.). I do this Seedtest together with the Money Maker test. Equipment same as usual my Homebox Xl as Flower Tent and my Ds 60 as Veg. Area. Lights Flower 400 w hps(in late stage of Flower x2) and 200w Cfl in the Veg Area. The Seed was germed 5 Days ago and cracked within 24 hrs.....after that it went into a lil baby Pod with ph regulated Coco. Today we are at Day 6 since Germination and a lil strong Damnesia is already out of the Coco.......she gets transplanted to 6l Coco tonite.I will upload some Pics after i repotted Her. So im Excited to have another GHSC Strain in my Garden and i will do my best to keep u Entertained with some gd Shots......Enjoy it Hunters.... Blessings Ninja

Indoor - 7 weeks flowering time with a yield up to 800gr/sqm. Can be flowered at 18 or 12 hours photoperiod. 9 weeks total crop time. Hi Strainhunters, I have got some room coming up this week under the light, so i am not going to waste it. I have gratefully received some Kalashnikova Autoflower seeds Which will be fed with Short flowering Powderfeed from start to finish. This will be my third attempt at growing autoflowers, the first time with Greenhouse Auto genetics, previously i have grown Think Differnt from Dutch Passion and Northen lights Auto from Royal Queen seeds. So will be happy to see how they compare. I will be using one of my trusty HPS 400w lights on a 12/12 light schedule.i have previously been growing them on 18/6 for two weeks then 12/12 on my previous two attempts. I am changing this time as i want to keep my electricity bills down, and if i have the light on 12/12 constantly, So I can grow a wider range of varieties, auto and feminised, all on a 12/12 schedule from start to finish.This will be my last indoor grow till August/September as I hope to start outdoors on the 1st May if spring ever arrives this year. Free light always a bonus and with a decent summer can get some good results outdoor. I will start my plants in small 2 litre pots then transplant them after a week to 10 days into 11 litre pots where they will stay for 9-10 weeks.I will fill the pots with my usual soil easymix from the local grow shop,then add clay pebbles when I come to repot them. I will start by filling the pots with soil, I will then drop the seed in a 1cm deep hole I have made,cover gently, I then give the soil a light watering with warm tap water over the seed, cover with a sprinkly of soil, mist that with tap water, I will then put them in a dark cupboard and wait patiently. i have only failed once using this method and that was my first attempt ever.     Hi guys here are some pics on my new grow I grow GHS genetics only this time and since they have provided me with some great stuff to work with I'll be revieuwing my grow on this website. I've grown short plants till now due to the space I was growing in currently test running a new grow space; stairs- closet grow, ventilated with pc fans; 12 cm exhaust and 2x 6 cm air intakes the 2 x6 cm can be switched seperately and the big one is set to operate in 3 electrical settings / voltage adjustments and by doing so making the fan run harder or slower. And there is a nice feature to the one I´ve build (if I say so myself) It has 2 non electrical settings that can be set by opening up or covering parts on the ventilationduct itself. Here some startup pics in advanced. I'll be revieuwing the Afgooey only growing 1 with powder feeding and with with Canna to have those compared. I grow using a Led and CFL combination. Besides growing Afgooey(present from GHS) I grow; Pure Kush, Great White Shark, Arjans Strawberry haze, Super Silver Haze (present from GHS) and Lady Burn 1974. Hope you guys will enjoy my grow and we make it to the finish!!! I'll add some germination pics and some pics from my growroom to be!. Showing my Pure Kush Mother to be! And the 4 sprouts that after following the germination proces on this website (>24hrs in a glas off water) than (>24hrs between cotton pads both situations in the dark) Once in the dirt they srouted within 24 hours and I'm counting on 100 % sprouting due to the dirt within the other small containers that has started to lift in the right place!!!

    Moby Dick by matia221 they have 2 days in soil i germinate them first the soil is reinforzed with N 2% P 3% F 6% they are for the moment in a 11 lt only because is handy and then will transfer to a 45 lt i put 3 to germinate and the 3 germinate in a day there will be 2 phenotypes 1 germinate bent and 2 germinate straight (the white thing that apear at the beggining) then the 1 still having another quality that reafirm me that is another pheno she open the shell before the other 2 and is looking down like she isn't ready for light and the another 2 make exactly the same thing at the same time they haven't broke the shell yet and they are lookin up also they grow a lot in actually in a day well so for now not so many thing to see but we know that we will have 2 diferent phenotypes i will wait that they got some weeks and then put in a 400 wats lamp i keep you informed

    Not all of us like sophisticated and complicated and expensive gear, but want more than just soil in 4 l pots. So I may have an advice for you. Plantboxes for balconies come in two types. one simple with just one space, and one with an air pocket down there where you pour in the water from the side. Just look at the pic. This "hydro" plantbox works very good with cannabis and coco. No more overwatering with coco, always enough air for the roots and the roots are getting very strong in there because the take the water out of the reservoir. You do not water o top, ut the plants have to take the water by themselves. And the best: One box is just around 10 Euro in any garden shop. 1 m length box is good for 4 plants. Try it out!

    CANNABIS AROMA & FLAVOR Oxford Study Shows Caryophyllene (terpene) as a Dietary Cannabinoid What does this mean? Cannabis ususally contains a significant amount of a terpene called beta-caryophyllene (BCP), which contributes to the aroma and flavor of cannabis. The study shows that this terpene, also found in other legal herbs, spices and food plants, activates the CB2 receptor and acts as a non-psychoactive anti-inflammatory. Because it binds to a cannabinoid receptor, it is considered a cannabinoid. WOW! Question: Does non-psychoactive BCP compete with psychoactive compounds for receptor binding?; Can high BCP content reduce the psychoactive effects of cannabis? Introduction to Cannabis Aroma and Flavor The aroma and flavor of cannabis is manipulated by selective breeding for the biosynthesis of various classes of compounds. These include terpenes, flavonoids, alkanes and esters. Aroma and flavor molecules are generally volatile and posses lower boiling points than cannabinoids, thus they are released during vaporization processes. Let's take a look at a class of molecules known as a terpenes, which contribute to give cannabis its unique bouquet and flavor. Some terpenes are said to modulate the physiological and psychoactive effects of cannabis. Additional research is needed into how these legal compounds participate in providing medicinal properties to marijuana. Unfortunately, unjust Schedule I classification makes it illegal to extract perfectly legal compounds from cannabis. Cannabis-Science recognizes that many terpenes in the botanical world exhibit medicinal properties and that a great number of modern pharmaceuticals were derived from this fact. Many cannabinoids are considered terpenes since they contain 'terpene-pieces' (moieties) assembled by the plant. TERPENES Terpenes (isoprenoids) are small molecules that consist of repeating units of a compound called isoprene. Others terpenes have antimicrobial properties, including some found in cannabis. Humulus (Hops, as in Hoppy India Pale Ale) is the only other genus besides Cannabis that is found in the family Cannabaceae; the two are genetically similar. Go to your local Homebrew Supplier and get an ounce of hops. A skunky variety such as Saaz will do. Compare the smell and physical similarities of the two Cannabaceae products. Smell familiar? Both have glandular trichomes that exude terpenoid-rich resin. Many of these resins not only add flavor to beer, but their orginal intent was to prevent spoilage via antimicrobial activity. Side-by-side the GC chromatograms from each plant would have many similarities (peaks). Cannabis and Hops each contain some of the same essential oils. MAKING IT HAPPEN - Becoming a Cannabis Scientist The kinds of scientists whose work involves dealing with flavor, taste and smell includes Flavor Chemists, Fragrance Chemists, Oenologists, Biophysicists, and Neuroscientists to name a few. Biologists,Geneticists, Botanists and Horticulturists also get involved in manipulating flavor, smell and overall behavior of plants. HOW TO MEASURE AROMA & FLAVOR COMPONENTS The majority of compounds responsible for flavor and smell are volatile, they tend to evaporate over time, going liquid to gas. To take advantage of this, Gas Chromatography is used to measure and identify the volatile components in a sample. For example, say that you want to know the flavor/aroma profile for bananas. A sample of the banana would be dehydrated and then powdered. In theory, many of the compounds of interest are next extracted and dissolved by mixing the powdered bananas with a solvent. The exact mass of the powder and the exact volume of solvent allows easy calculation of %, later. Meanwhile, a known volume of the solvent/flavor extract is fed into the gas chromatograph (GC). More on GC here. The GC displays a peak graphic for each compound. The size of the peak is relative to how much is there. Eliminating Odor Although medical marijuana gardens are state-legal in 25% of the U.S. the federal fellows can still spend thousands of dollars to hire siz or seven guys to bust your three legal plants. More so, anti-cannabis neighbors remain ignorant about the cannabis community, often reporting medical gardens to authorities. Although your medical garden is perfectly legal, do you want to be served with a warrant and have your property searched, your rights ignored, rifle-bearing SWAT team break down the door, flash grenades, etc? Unfortunately, even legal medical marijuana patients should approach the situation from the federal standpoint and operate under the assumption that a permit is a failsafe, not a license to be overt. Legal medical gardens (even if only two plants) should be operated as clandestinely as possible and this means addressing odor issues… The odor given off by flowering cannabis plants can be pungent and overpowering. The smell can be difficult to eliminatea while flowers are present, so it’s important to understand how to address such odor problems. The bottom line is to use multiple types of treatment at once. Cannabis odor varies somewhat with maturity of the plant. Like formation of the cannabinoids, aroma molecules such as terpenes are made by the plant over a period of time. Several of these non-psychoactive oils are reported to have medicinal qulaities such as anti-inflammatory properties. Early in flowering these odors begin as light, flowery and sweet, and they increase in strength with flower maturity and resin production. Depending on the strain (genetics), the odor profile of cannabis generally develops into a skunky and sweet aroma as complex and variable as fine wines. There may be great variability in the aroma profile between two cannabis strains and/or even hybrid plants from the same mother. With time, so much of these volatile oils are released into the air that eliminating the smell of flowering cannabis can be seemingly impossible. This challenge is best handled by attacking the problem from multiple angles at once. Cannabis odors are unique and to simply spray an aerosol deodorizer only adds to the odor profile, it does nothing to eliminate the odor. Use of Super Cinnamon Spray will give you the smell of cinnamon plus skunky cannabis. Humans have a relatively keen sense of smell and can detect certain odors at very low concentrations. Often, the amount of odor-causing molecules in the air is at a level of parts-per-million (ppm). With this in mind it’s easy to see how an inefficient treatment regimen, perhaps a leak in a duct or use of an expired carbon filter, can still leave behind ppm-level odors that are still quite strong. Because of the fact that use of sprays and incense only masks cannabis odor, many folks seem to think that deodorizers have no place at all in keeping odors from escaping the area. However, the key to fighting odor problems is to understand and utilize every tool toward the goal. This includes masking agents, but they serve a narrow purpose and it’s important not to overuse them; for your yard to smell strongly of PineSol on a daily basis is out of place and this could be a tip for already suspicious neighbors with a poor understanding of cannabis culture and truth. Your cannabis odor treatment arsenal consists of: Mechanical Influx of Fresh Air (intake) Removal of Soiled Air (odor exhaust) Adsorption - Charcoal Filtration w/ Pre-filter Chemical Destruction - Ozone Electronic Ionizers Electrostatic Precipitators Cooking Food Aerosol Sprays/Oils Incense/Candles Carpet Powders Bubbling Solution Masking Agents Ideally, the air in the grow room is contained by ensuring that the room is sealed, doors remain closed and the only openings include intake and exhaust ducts. Intake ports should be located near the floor. Exhaust ports should be located diagonally opposite (“kitty cornerâ€) and on or near the ceiling so as to remove warmer, lighter air that collects near the ceiling. Because CO2 gas is heavier than air, the concentration tends to be lower near the ceiling and higher on the floor (CO2 monitors should be at plant level). The net effect of this intake exhaust arrangement is that cooler air is brought in near the floor at one end of the room and the exhaust air exits at the ceiling on the opposite side of the room. This creates an air flow that most efficiently uses CO2 and expels excess heat. Rooms that utilize CO2supplementation are more efficient since fewer air exchanges are necessary to keep the CO2 level optimal, and fewer air exchanges reduces the frequency that soiled air is exhausted. MECHANICAL The movement of air is critical for every treatment regimen and the mechanical aspects are foundational. Without proper mixing and movement, even the most effective treatment leaves stagnate pockets of foul air, especially in corners. For this reason, among others, it is critical for the air within the grow space to be circulating at all times. This is generally accomplished with an oscillating. Mechanical treatment involves the physical movement of fresh and soiled (smelly) air to or from the grow space. With the use of fans and rigid or flexible ducting, fresh air is brought into the grow space and the net effect is dilution of the air, or a decrease in the concentration of odor molecules (ex: 100ppm to 20ppm). But keep in mind that any air pumped into an enclosed room will result in the same volume of smelly air being forced out of the room via displacement. This displaced air is considered exhaust. If the room is sealed then the untreated exhaust must exit through ducts or cracks and this becomes a liability. Although dilution and removal of soiled air from the grow space may make the immediate area less smelly, the untreated exhaust may be headed directly for the neighbors house. Unless your grow space is equipped with an industrial smokestack that injects fouls air far above the community, then mechanical intake of fresh air and exhaust of soiled air is only effective at reducing odor within the grow space and adjacent rooms. Meanwhile, the once contained odor is now on the loose in the neighborhood, attic, basement, or wherever the exhaust duct exits. Additional treatment is required. ADSORPTION- Carbon Filtration Carbon filters designed for horticultural applications come in various sizes. Their official purpose in the market is to address the foul stench that sometimes comes along with use of organic fertilizers in confined spaces; otherwise, if designed specifically for cannabis cultivation, they would likely be outlawed. Typically, carbon filters come in the form of a canister made of rigid duct components ranging from about 40cm to 1.5 meters in length. They are rated by airflow volume in units of CFM, cubic feet per minute (metric: cubic meters per minute) and the filter should be paired with a squirrel cage style blower of about the same rating Carbon filters are a highly effective means of removing unwanted odors from air but there are a few things to keep in mind when using one. They have a limited lifespan and effectiveness depends on the age, odor load, humidity, size of the carbon particles, rate of airflow and air temperature. As smelly air is drawn through the filter it passes over the carbon and the odor molecules (volatile organic compounds, VOCs) are adsorbed onto the carbon while the clean air passes through. Adsorption is the physical attraction of gas or liquid molecules to the surface of a solid. This attraction occurs because airborne odor molecules have a slight positive charge and are attracted to the cavernous activated carbon. Essentially, a carbon filter is hung near the ceiling and attached to an exhaust blower using duct. The filter may be attached to either side of the exhaust fan – soiled air may be drawn into the filter or it may be expelled through the filter. In order to keep the filter cleaner and more inconspicuous, it is usually placed inside the grow space on the intake port of the exhaust fan. For CO2 supplemented rooms that have no problem with heat buildup, keep in mind that instead of fresh air intake and subsequent exhaust, room air may be recirculated through the filter. This simplifies the setup, reduces vibrational noise, keeps the air moving and provides for more efficient odor removal. Most carbon filters come wrapped in polyester batting that serves as a pre-filter that prevents dust particles from clogging the pores of the carbon granules. Activated carbon may be thought of as a sponge full of tiny pores and microscopic passage ways. Effectiveness of the filter is dependent on the number of pores present in carbon particles; the more pores there are, the higher the surface area of carbon and the greater the odor-removing capability since odors are adsorbed onto the surface of the carbon. Pore cloggage lowers effectiveness, impedes airflow, and generally leads to use of more electricity, so it is important to use the pre-filter and regularly clean it. In the end, carbon filters are one of the most effective tools in your odor treatment toolbox. For those that are serious about odor removal, the extra cost is likely worth it. OZONE Ozone is by far one of the most effective methods of odor removal but it carries with it potential hazards that MUST be considered. Ozone is an unstable gas that consists of three oxygen molecules (O3) and it has a very distinctive “electrical†odor. It is made whenever oxygen encounters a very high electric potential, and in nature lightning causes formation of ozone. Because ozone is a high energy molecule, it doesn’t stick around long. It is a powerful, negatively-charged oxidizer and when it encounters odor molecules, it attaches to them and renders them odorless. The byproduct is oxygen (O2). Any unreacted ozone naturally degrades to O2 within about 30-90 minutes depending on the environment: temperature, humidity, etc. However, ozone itself can be hazardous to human (and microbiall) health because it such a powerful and reactive oxidizer. Ozone kills bacteria and fungi and so it can be useful in helping control funugus in humid enviromnets. Some studies indicate that inhalation of ozone at very high concentrations can damage the lungs, eys or skin. For this reason it is critical that an ozone-treated space never be occupied by animals until the ozone has cleared naturally via degradation, or by fresh air exchanges. Luckily, humans are able to smell ozone at low concentration. If you can smell it then get out of the space immediately and check back after an hour. It’s important to understand that ozone is a desensitizer and that brief exposures can decrease your ability to smell it minutes later, so never rely only on your sense of smell to determine whether ozone is present. As a condition, ozone should never be used unless you know how to calculate the exact amount needed, andit is prevented from entering living areas. This involves knowing the total air volume in the room being treated, and knowing the output of ozone from the unit, which is disclosed by the manufacturer. Concentrations greater than 0.04ppm (four tenths of one part in a million) are considered potentially unhealthy. Often this means that ozone generators may only need to run for 1-5 minutes. Anything more can be harmful to plants, pets and humans. Easy to use test kits are available that allow you to open a pouch and leave an indicator strip inside the ozonated room in order to determine ozone levels. Again, never use ozone in an inhabited area. With that said, a wall of skunk may be completely eliminated within minutes. Ozone generators for horticultural applications come in a variety of styles. Some are safely contained and designed to be placed inline (inside of a duct) and use powerful UV lamps to produce ozone, which then enters the duct airflow and mixes with smelly exhaust gas to destroy odor molecules before exiting the duct. Other models use and electrical arc of several thousand volts to produce ozone. Some generators are external and designed to treat an entire room as opposed to the contents of a duct. Once again, it is critical to ensure that the air being treated is constantly mixed in order to distribute the ozone and eliminate pockets of foul air. ELECTRONIC – Ionizers and Electrostatic Precipitators Ionizers and electrostatic precipitators work on the same general principle by emitting negatively charged ions. Because odor molecules, dust, smoke, pollen and bacteria have a net positive charge, they are attracted to the negatively charges ions. The result is that the charge is neutralized, the odor molecule is quenched and it generally falls to the floor or sticks to the wall. Ionizers or electrostatic precipitators are generally used in industrial HVAC air purification systems that handle large volumes of air, but are increasingly being used in home furnace and air conditioning systems. They are usually only one component of a multi-component system that may include pre-filters, de-humidifiers, HEPA filtration and carbon filtration, each component contributing to the overall cleaning of the airstream. Precipitators are large, stationary and depend on contaminated air being passed over them such that the contaminants are attracted to the charged metal blades, which require regular cleaning. Likewise, ionizers quickly acquire dust and this impedes efficiency. MASKING AGENTS Masking agents consist of chemicals and other odors that attempt to cover or hide pre-existing odors. They do not eliminate odors, they only manipulate the pre-existing profile in an additive manner. Cooking One of the most useful, most natural and inexpensive masking approaches is simply cooking aromatic food. Cooking is an everyday act that is never out of place to visitors or repairmen, and it often does a reasonable job at masking odors within habited spaces. Of course, cooking everyday all day long is impossible for many folks but there is a wonderful, effective alternative – The Crock Pot. It is the least expensive and longest acting method of masking, produces no additional waste, avoids use of synthetic chemical sprays, feminine odors, and is efficient since you have to use electricity to prepare food already. A crock pot is a valuable component in your odor treatment arsenal and too few people take advantage, sometimes opting for overkill sophistication when it is unnecessary. It is encouraged that you experiment with your favorite foods and spices to find the most effective recipes that suit your taste. For now, here is an inexpensive recipe that works well and takes minimal effort: Beans! One cup of dry pinto beans costs only a few cents. They are first soaked overnight in cold water in order to soften them a bit. The next morning before work, the beans are placed in a crock pot with about 6 cups water and the setting placed to “high†to achieve a simmer. To be most effective you must add aromatic herbs or spices to the beans. Use of powdered or granulated garlic, 3-5 bay leaves, thyme, rosemary, etc. are very effective and give your home a warm and welcome ambience when folks come through the door. While the beans simmer all day long, they fill the house with the good smell of cooking food, and when you come home from work, you may be surprised to find that the smell of cannabis in the living area is well masked. At this point late in the day, you have the option of adding potatoes, carrots, etc. Eventually, eating beans each day gets old. Not to advocate wasting of food, but keep in mind that even a half cup of beans with spices is effective and minimizes waste should you choose to throw the food out. Basically, your crock pot becomes a new form of potpourri and a little garlic goes a long way. You may wish to experiment with simmering water, bay leaves and garlic as a less hearty, broth alternative. Give it a try. Maybe grandma’s marinararecipe will do the trick! If this method of odor masking is not something you wish to practice, at least keep it in mind as a component that can be combined with other methods to stack the odds in your favor. You may wish to do this on days in which family comes for a visit or a contractor is performing repairs on or near your property. But be prepared to answer the question “What smells so good?†Did You Know? Did you know that many restaurants install ducts that carry kitchen odors to the entry and dining room so as to make the restaurant more appealing to customers and increase appetite?

    EDIT - I apologize, I was in a hurry and made a mistake labeling pictures, I mistakenly named the two pictures of the plants still in the scrog as "Trainwreck before harvest"..but those two pics are actually the two Super Lemon Haze plants - BIG difference! I've renamed them, and I apologize to the person who made the 1 download of each pic before I made the fix. Ok ok enough talk, time for more pics I have lots to say (as usual lol) but not much time..but it has been too long between harvest pics, so here are some of both the trainwreck and the super lemon haze at harvest time..if you scroll over the pic you can see which strain it is I will have more explanations, more after trim bud pics, weights, and slow cooker cannabutter all coming asap. I will say that I weighed the TW#1 plant and completely dry and ready for long term cure she came in at 81 g's..not a huge plant for a scrog but I'm very happy with that since trainwreck is not a huge yielder. Smell she is very earthy with pine undertones and taste VERY lemon pine like with earthy undertones in the vaporizer, I have yet to smoke her. The effect is a bit of a creeper leading to a sudden mindf*ck..it then depends what time of day it is. Daytime = quite a while not getting anything too complex done, a bit lazy, and sitting around enjoying just about anything but having to worry about too much lol..music, tv, movies, PS3 games, drooling over bud porn all seem like great activities for a VERY decent amount of time (don't make serious plans soon!) Night = the same as day plus good night sleepyhead time after the initial burst of holy sh*t I'm high dies down a little and whatever you are doing gets too difficult as your eyelids get heavier. Pain relief = what damn pain?? lol..between the Trainwreck and the SLH I have been more pain free this past week than in a VERY long time...and that's with starting a job that requires some fairly physical labor sometimes..well for this outta shape old bastard anyways lol I have to say thank you GHSC sincerely for this, amazing strains like these help with pain making my days easier and more enjoyable for myself and for everyone around me that gets to deal with me in a MUCH better mood!! OK more weigh ins and dried bud porn to come soon after these last of the harvest pics Peace

    21/12/2012 Buenas compas! A continuación la parte final del cultivo de Automáticas de Green House... Fotos de las últimas 24/48 hs. de vida de las niñas... Pongo solo una selección de cada variedad... Como representante de las Kalash, nos despedimos con 3 fotos de: Kalashnokova Auto I ...la más pequeña de las Kalash... Cogollo principal... La regla es de 20 cm. Lindo cogollo Bueno; seguimos con: Sweet Mango Auto Sorprendentemente compacta y resinosa...además de enorme Como representante de las NL, nos despedimos con las hermanitas de la bañera de 20 litros... 2 NL Auto: La rubia a la izquierda y la pelirroja a la derecha... Las mismas vistas desde arriba...los cogollos, durísimos!!! Este es el cogollo principal de una de ellas, apodada "La colo", por obvias razones... Armamos un secadero que consta de 4 hilos de cable de tendido telefónico, gentileza de los muchachos de la compañía telefónica local, 4 metro lineales cada uno Colocados a 2,20 metros de altura. Los fuertes cables telefónicos cuelgan de pitones amurados a las paredes con tarugos del 8. Y dispusimos las ramas a 10 cm de distancia entre sí aproximadamente... Se utilizó la totalidad del secadero, en total 16 metros lineales. Ahora, a secar unos cuantos días... actualizaremos pesadas en seco, curado y notas de cata... No hemos contado días de floración, pero las hemos cosechado tranquilos, cuando nosotros quisimos,de la siguiente manera: Sweet Mango Auto cultivada en 100 litros, cosechada en 94 días desde semilla. NL Auto cultivada en 100 litros, cosechada con 94 días desde semilla. Las dos Kalashnikova, las cultivamos en 64 litros a ambas, cosechamos con 95 días desde semilla. Las dos NL Auto de la bañera de 20 litros cosechadas con 96 días desde semilla. Nos vemos pronto compañeros! "Fla-K"

    And finally the latest more Sativa pheno SMA . It is fun growing these still kind of small-ish but healthy and aromatic girlies.. Talking about aromatic herbs - the White Rhino gave only half an ounce of sweet nuggets but it is such a lovely sweet smoke, heartically recommended, esp. if you happen to get a tall fat horn , That exotic white widowhigh meets the Afghani body and earthy hash-type strong kush taste.     Hey Guys Just another update , was late getting to the water change this week so they went ten days. Not to worried as i normally let them run 7-10 before the change. She is starting to put on a little more weight and im sure she will still put on a bit more. Had a look at the trichomes last night and they were all still mostly clear so there is going to be at least another 2 weeks to go. When they about 80% milky i will then run them just on plain water for another seven days before the chop. Upped the nutes slightly to 15.5 grams. Hoping the last nutes for the run. One thing i have learned is the Powder feed is super strong and i have to get used to using slightly less then i i have. But that could also be because i was still using a high ppm after the root problem which caused some burn. But we live and learn and im sure i will get the nack of it soon Moppy

    Day 63: Hi Guys & Girls, time for a little update as I neglected this journal, apologies. They're all still going fine, a few burnt ends of leaves but nothing major. Gave them a feed today of GH Indica Powder 10gms per 10l, pH 6.8 EC 1.6 I think the burnt leaves were due to me using some Hesi PK13/14 either too early or because it's a Hydro PK not Soil, I don't know.
