Hello! I start a culture under LED light, to avoid excessive heat in summer. It's the first time I've used an Autopot system, so it'll be very interesting for me, everything is new. So far, I have prepared the substrate (coconut and 50% perlite). In the bottom of the pot, I put some arlite to improve the drainage. And so that the coconut is not constantly in contact with the water, in some way, to avoid areas with excess water. Let's go see it That blue thing, it's an Air Dome, a system that supposedly injects air into the roots, so they're more oxygenated. I don't know if it works well, it's the first time I've used it. There is a tube (you can see it in the picture) that is connected to a small air pump. The Autopot system is still not working. So the first waterings will be manual, with a shower as usual. When the plants show the roots they will colonize the pot, then the Autopot will start to work. I put in four different varieties of Green House. Can you guess one of them? Cheers

The Sweet Mango seedlings are all doing OK and seem to be happy in their Root Pouches. The 2 smaller seedlings I am watering every evening I am giving them about 60ml of water each, which I am slowly increasing to meet their demand. The 2 larger seedlings I am watering every two days now, and last night I gave them their first feed of a mild solution of Plant Magic Old Timer Soil Grow and the Plant Magic Root Stimulant as well, I gave them about 150ml each, next time I will only give them water. Here are some images I took yesterday afternoon. Sweet Mango seedlings in grow tent under LED. Sweet Mango small seedling side view. Sweet Mango small seedling top view. Sweet Mango larger seedling side view. Sweet Mango larger seedling side view. The 2 smaller seedlings are certainly perking up I should be able to water them every two days in the next few days then I can start to give them a mild feed as well once they have a few more leaves. The two larger seedlings will soon be ready to FIM they are about the 4th node now. I will update the journal next week when there is something to look at, unless something interesting happens in between times. Gasmeter Likkle more

Hi MelloRose. Fellow SA dude here. You growing anything yet? Oops, sorry I see that was asked and answered. Do you have some space in mind to grow in? A little tip if you are also in Gauteng (I say Gauteng, since I can't speak for other provinces): Outdoors you want to have everything for the season germinated by mid-October or so, leaving you plenty of time to plan until then. If you want the lowest cost for the biggest harvest, I suggest planting directly into the ground and out in the glorious African sun! If you go that route, you can start in Winter already by deciding your placement and digging your holes (don't be skimpy...I do about 700mm x 700mm x 750mm deep per plant). Now you can prepare your soil/compost/fertilizer mixture right in the holes. Now your mixture can mellow out and hopefully have some earthworms and other beneficial microbes move in to further improve your soil before the "ladies" arrive!

Hello from Johannesburg, South Africa! I'm here to share ideas and get more acquainted with the 420 lifestyle 😊 and culture ❤

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
