  1. Sad to say that even as a Hunter S. Thompson fan I have not yet read or watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas :/
  2. Thanks Lams! That is terrific information. After seeing the Jamaica episode I've been wanting to take the trip.
  3. I <3 Hawaii. Such a great place, beautiful nature and I never smoked bad weed while I was out there.
  4. As another poster pointed out, I wouldn't describe these countries as safe. I'm sure they have some solid untouched landraces, but I think the risk would be too much for the Strain Hunters. Turkmenistan is hard as hell to get into (It is close to North Korea level seclusion) and the Karimov is on the same level as the countries you said it was better than. If they are going to go to that part of the world Kyrgyzstan is definitely the best option, but it has some major drawbacks too. Of course it would be nice to see Central Asia get some attention.
  5. Kyrgyzstan is a beautiful. If the people there invite you into their house they will treat you to a feast. And when I say the weed is terrible I mean that no one really grows (or at least grows the propers way). Here are some pics of Issuk Kul & the surrounding area.
  6. I've been to Issuk-Kul and Kyrgyzstan. Some of my best friends are from there. A few thoughts: The vast majority of the weed in KG is total shit. All of the good stuff is supposed to come from Afghanistan. The other aspect is that if the strain hunters get caught there they are going to be pretty fucked. When I last checked it was 20 years in the slammer if you get caught. You can bribe your way out of it, but since you guys are going to have cameras on you it would probably be way more than if the average goofball like me got caught. If they did go I'd definitely recommend finding a local contact before you go (as you do on most your expeditions). On another note there are some positives: There may indeed be some untouched land races there. The country is absolutely beautiful and most of the people are nice.
  7. I really enjoyed this one
  8. Agreed. So far for me it would definitely be OG Kush
  9. Very cool man! Best of luck to you.
  10. Hey everyone! The name is Sam. Currently in mainland US but spent most of the past year and a half in Hawaii+Central Asia. Going to resume my travels again soon. What brings me here? A growing interest in the culture for sure. Didn't have too much experience with Cannabis culture until I made my way out to Hawaii. Since then my interest has only grown. Looking forward to good conversations and gaining some knowledge from you guys!

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
