  1. Hello! My name is Beth, and though I've been smoking weed for nearly 20 years, I've only just recently started working in the industry. I come to the weed world by way of the open data and design world, and my brain can't get enough of everything that I'm learning about this plant. I found this site because I'm currently on vacation on Reunion Island, which I've come to because my mother-in-love has a friend here and she wanted me and my partner to come visit with her. In researching the cannabis culture on the island, I discovered this article and this site: Apparently there's a perpetual landrace growing here – which can flower 2-3 times - and I am super interested in finding it! We leave the island in 9 days, so there's time to give it a solid try. Initially I was going to contact the author, but I've since learned that he's sadly passed away (which I want to learn more about too). Anyway, I'm here to see if I can find this landrace. Because apparently the only thing that can get my mind off of collecting weed data is going out into nature and searching for weed. Many thanks to the organizers for putting this together! Also! If anyone happens to read this and is interested in the Open Cannabis Project, check it out here: https://opencannabisproject.org/ We're in the process of rebuilding the database. Cool things coming soon... [plant emoji] + <3
  2. Hi growers. This is germination complete, first soaking in water for 8 hours then placing in wet tissue. Two and a half days later we could see shell had split and left them another 12 hours before putting to coco and watered at around 6ph, the germination was plain tap water.
  3. Hello masters.growers and friends. First of all im sorry if my english is not so good.this is my first grow and my first plant ever. And it was literally unplanned. Never have i thought of growing my own cannabis plant. I found some seed in brickweed and as that time i was also watching some videos at youtube how to germinate seed. So i gve it a try and it worked. Up to this day i never knw what kind of strain my plant is. Someone told me it was sativa landrace and is better for me not to grow it. Since it took a long time to flower, its tall and plus i didnt even know whether it is male or female. If it turns out to be male then im just wasting my time. So i better buy some autofeminize/autoflower seed for safety. Thats what he told me.If he could gift me some seeds thn this all would be easy. I can hardly get any brickweeds let alone a good seed. Well my plant is still here and is growing bigger everyday(i think). And i might need some help! Thank you for your time! . Day 5 and day 11. As u can see in day 5 i have no idea what to do. I even gave it blanket. I keep moving it every hour to make sure it get enough sunlight. And in day 11 i transplant my plant to normal pot.
  4. This is my first post in this forum. I thought it a good idea to start by some background regarding my growing experience and history. I am a mid 30s adult that live in South Africa and have been growing for personal use for more than 10 years. I fell in love with the plant the moment I took my first drag. What intrigued me was the complexity, veriaty and diversity of the plant and of course the effect. It was only later in my early 20s that I started my research and experimentation in growing. As I live in South Africa where we have lots of sunshine, I mainly grew outdoor and mostly local strains where I got the seeds from the local pot I smoked at the time. Since then I have grown a number of different amazingly diverse strains, all natural and organic..... somewhat since n use vegetable fertilizer from time to time to nurture and replenish my soil.
  5. So these girls are supposed to take 12-14 weeks of flower time and where I live I'm lucky if I get 12 weeks so what I did was carry them into an out-building to induce artificial darkness 12 and 12. I did this for about two weeks give or take and then stopped as soon as the rest of my plants began to flower. I believe I've succeeded in putting them a couple weeks ahead of the natural schedule. When the flower is finally ready I wanna try making thai-stick you know with the bamboo stick and Rasta hair. I'll update later in flower cycle 😎
  6. Hello! Was wondering where you guys go hunt for hard to find seeds (sold out, legendary strains that are no longer distributed, or simply small batch breeders packs...). I was on FB groups for a while but got ripped off twice and decided to stop. IG has been better but I got unlucky again recently... Hope it's not a trend on IG. Been using forums but it's hard to find what your after and I heard of people being ripped off too on some other forums. Any other option you guys use??? Thanks
  7. One of Indonesia's original cannabis strain. This is what i found in South of Sumatra, Lampung, couple years ago. Smell fresh, taste light and energizing. All we need is cannabis regulation not prohibition. Imagine how Indonesian citizen could benefit from this multi-functional plant; food, clothing, house, medicine, etc. When u see the light, stand up for ur right!
  8. Hello I seem to be able to use technology a little better in daylight hours so will have a crack at this. I'm not a strain hunter, just a very well travelled weed aficionado who seems to always end up in bizarre places but I always manage to sample the local offerings ive kept a Journal of strains and where and any good for the last thirty years, always been around growers and am in the process of applying for a research licence. My two main areas of research are climate suited strains hoping to cut down the energy footprint of commercial grows which rely heavily on aircon in Australia and developing a natural plant hormone derived "tonic" used in conjunction with your existing fertiliser regime. Testing has been very promising on all crops I've used - increased yield, slightly quicker growth rates, getting hold of that apical dominance and encouraging plants to branch out horizontally aiming for shorter internode spacing. I have three family members with cancer at the moment who are all annoyed that no doctor here seems to want to be the first to prescribe. So, yes, it's personal too. I was given some land on Tanna island in Vanuatu for my translating and advisory services (I speak Bislama and Pidgen, the worlds two least needed languages) and at some stage would like to assist the village women in using the landraces that grow all over the island to weave mats they pay their kids school fees with, and also perhaps to come up with something better than a nambas for their husbands to wear....it's difficult to give advice on tourism development when you are the only person on the island without your bum bare. There are a couple of places I'd like to help out - Madagascan ladies who do the most amazing embroidery and use the landrace there as fire kindling, and the people of PNG who have an amazing strain but no idea that it can be used for anything other than getting stoned, drinking, chewing betel nut and subsequently beating each other up. Ive been extremely lucky to have lived this life less ordinary so feel an obligation to give something back, and I can't think of anything better to give back than this awesome herb I've chased around the planet. I'm not a strain hunter and would never call myself that so I will settle with Canna geographer Thanks for having me and I'm sure I will be able to learn a lot from you all
  9. With the recent recovery of possible wreckage of flight MH370 on the Island of Reunion, my Google searches turned up some interesting articles. I posted my findings at the end of Franco's Article about Landraces of Reunion Island. My links to further Information and the Bull Sharks of Reunion Island (posted on 31 July 2015) are found under Franco's Article. Here's the link to Franco's Article: http://forums.strainhunters.com/site/index.php/index.html/_/articles/landraces/reunion-island-the-perpetual-weed-r17?st=0#comment_511 I have heard that the Zamal Landrace is very very good, so maybe Reunion Island might be a cool Destination for the Strain Hunters. This picture is of Cannabis as grown on Reunion Island, credit for the photo goes to Lamota's Blog.
  10. Hola!! I hail from the northern area of Michigan in the united states! I am on vacation until February 7th here in Nicaragua. I have grown both indoor and outdoor ( we have a very nice 8-10 week flowering period in Michigan, if no bud rot (boytritis) or p.m is taking place. My question is, I do have herb here from home but I am looking to find any landrace strains as I am very much into collecting seeds. I thought about buying one of the bags from the street guys just for the seeds lol. I know it wont be exactly what im looking for but it must be bud grown near or around here? so i bring 50-100 seeds back and check all the phenos and grow them in the right environment, i would think they would over time adapt and what not. Say i start 30 for outdoors in april, I can tell sex by 8 or 9 weeks, then take two of the best male and female plants and cross them? Seems interesting to me. Please if anyone has any info on Nicaragua and weed let me know. I also have set out to find different land-race strains much like you guys. is World of seeds legit? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Travis Parrott- Medical card holder in Michigan.
  11. OK, so I haven't seen this before, I've always thought it was necessary but didn't realise it was already being done and so incredibly properly. I believe this facility also take deposits from multinational companies with an interest in the preservation of seed stock from around the world. I am sure GHSC and Strain Hunters keep Mums and seeds in controlled storage, but must live in fear of loss, damage, spoiling or government destruction. I seem to remember a story about some of Arjans parent stock being destroyed in Switzerland?? (May be myth). Anyway, check out the video below, I hope this is of interest to Franco and Arjan. http://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2015/10/22/norway-doomsday-backstory-arwa.cnn
  12. Hello Everybody, Great to be here, big fan of the Strain Hunters and the philosophy of protecting the indigenous growers around the world. I'm from Toronto and hold my MMPR licence which is Canada's federal medical marijuana program (Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations) This not only allows me to consume cannabis without fear of prosecution, I can also grow it as well. So here I am ready to learn as much as I can and I'll try to post as many pictures as I can. Cheers!! SkyPilot
  13. Well, after an unexpected hiatus I'm back and growing again! During my downtime, I've read more on organic and biodynamic gardening and gone much farther down the rabbit hole. My soil mix hasn't changed nor has my compost tea recipe. I have however, stumbled across a new area of study, biodynamic gardening. Most of you are probably more familiar with the term gardening by the moon. Biodynamic gardening takes this a step further by accounting for the not only the lunar phase, but also the lunar sign. Yea, yea I know...that's some real hippy shit right there. But before you blow it off, just know that it's not about mysticism or how to plant, but about when to plant. It's like a scheduling guideline. I'm still a relative newbie in my understanding, but the basic premise is that the gravitational pull of the Moon exerts a measurable force (a.k.a. gravity) on water on Earth and to a lesser degree so do the planets. The Moon's pull increases and decreases as it passes through the four phases (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarter) and as it passes through each phase it also spends approximately 2.5 days in each sign. You beginning to get the scheduling idea yet? Anyway, each sign of the zodiac is associated with a given element (fire, earth, water, air) and each element is better for certain types of garden activities. For example, Cancer is water sign and is the most fertile of all the signs. During 1st or 2nd quarter (waxing / increasing) when the Moon is in Cancer is said to be the best time to sow seeds or transplant plants that produce their fruits or vegetables above ground. While cultivating, pulling weeds, applying organic fertilizers, planting root crops, etc is said to be best done during the 3rd or 4th quarter (waning / decreasing) when the Moon is in a dry or barren sign like Taurus. Anyway, enough of that hippy shit and on to the good stuff... 14. Hey Everyone. So, I'm one of those forum posters that regulars generally despise. I'm a journalist working on a possible story about the ol' Panama Red strain. I am currently in Panama, close to the pearl islands where it is reported to still grow. But, alas, I am no scholar when it comes to marijuana history and theory. I was wondering if any of you strain hunters knew of any books/texts/reports/articles that talk at all about Panama Red. I've done the basic Google searches and have found some solid info, but I imagine there are some obscure books out there, written by people who really know their shit, that discuss the history, lore and science of Panama Red. Anyone know how I can learn more? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hey Folks! I'm a Canadian journalist living in Panama. I've been to the Pearl Islands, where Panama Red is reported to still grow. My friend has a 6 seater Piper Cherokee that we take out there and he owns a small B&B on the main island of Contadora. I've never spoke to anyone out there about Panama Red, but I am going to start now. Have you guys ever thought about coming down to find the old, original Panama Red?
  16. Cambodia, best from that area I heard. Do they make hash in that area of the world much?
