Time for a progress update, yesterday morning when I checked the plants the dirt in the plastic pots was dry and all of the plants felt nice and light.

So after lunch I first put the 2 larger Jack herer into their 12 litre root pouches and then I gave each plant 500ml of water each there was no run off from the root pouches, I then gave the smaller Jack Herer and the Passion #1 plants 400ml of water and there was a bit of run off from both.

Then I put the plants back into the grow tent and the 2 plants in the plastic pots are now lower than the 2 other plants in the root pouches, so I got a small box and a rectangular saucer to place the plastic pots onto and raise them up to the same height as the plants in the root pouches.

Once I got the canopy level I then adjusted the height of the LED and moved it upwards so it is just under 18 inches from the tops of the plants.

Here are some images I took as I repotted the plants.

Hey gasmeter,

That's really neat with the Root Pouch system.  I think that system is also known under the name of Air-Pots by a different manufacturer.  I imagine that nearly any semi-porous material could be sewn together to achieve a similar result.

I have a question, though.  Is it recommended to keep the pot completely separated from the bottom surface?  Is it better that the material pot does not sit in the run-off from the feedings?

Hi @Catwoman the root pouches are great they help the dirt dry out better than plastic pots the pouches are made from recycled water bottles and when your done with them if you bury them in dirt they biodegrade. here is a link to their site where you can find more detailed information about the pouches https://rootpouch.com/

Those air pots are a different thing they are made of plastic, but I have seen lots of journals here and especially 420mag where people use them with great results, here is a link to their web site http://air-pot.com/

I love the root pouches I have done quite a few grows with these pouches since I bought them 2 years ago, the plants are more healthy.

When I water the plants I take them out of the tent, my tent is in a bathroom, well toilet, wash basin and shower, no bath, anyway when the plants are in the root pouches I just pop them into the shower cubicle and any run off goes down the drain in the shower tray, once done I fill my little watering can and rinse down the shower tray with water.

I also place two pieces of wood under the root pouch so it does not sit in the run off I have seen how easily they can suck the run off back up with both plastic pots and the root pouches, much more easily with the root pouches.

Time for a weekly progress update on the plants during the veg period.

The two larger Jack Herer plants in the root pouches seem to be happy in the root pouches and the Jack Herer and Passion #1 in the plastic pots are also growing well and the Jack Herer is now taller than the Passion #1 plant.

Here are some images of the plants I took earlier today.

Jack Herer #1 is now 16cm in height and she is now at the tenth node.
Jack Herer #2 14cm in height and she is now at the nineth  node.
Jack Herer #3 is now 16cm in height and at the nineth node.
Passion #1 is now 12cm in height and she is at the nineth node.

Here are some temperature values for the grow tent over the last week.

Max temperature = 31C
Min temperature = 18.5C
Max humidity = 93%
Min humidity = 33%

The day time temperature is between 25C to 30C the average temperature in the day is around 27C/28C and the temperature at night in the tent is about 18.5C

The day time humidity is improving now as the plants get bigger and consume more water and feed during the day it is around 50% to 60% and during the night it is about 60% to 70%

The maximum humidity reading taken from the digital thermometre in the grow tent will be during the night after watering probably.

Now that Jack Herer #1 is at the tenth node and the stalk at the eight node is thicker I can top her tomorrow I might be able to do Jack Herer #2 as well.

Jack Herer #3 and the Passion #1 plant will be ready to top soon as well they are getting a move on now.

More updates soon, happy growing...  :pleasantry:

The dirt in the root pouches and the plastic pots was dry this morning when I checked on the plants.

So this afternoon I mixed 3ml per litre root stimulant and 0.5g per litre GHS powder grow feed to make up a 2 litre solution of feed mix, then I gave the plants in the plastic pots 400ml of the feed solution each.

Then I topped and fed Jack Herer #1 and #2 with 500ml of the solution each and then I put them back into the grow tent under the LED.

Here are some images I took.

I topped both of the plants at the eigth node or node 8, I counted upwards from the first set of leaves at the bottom of the stalk, at the moment the internode spacing is so tight it made counting the nodes tricky.

Once they start to stretch when I put them on a 12/12 photoperiod I can tidy them up and trim off a couple of stalks at the bottom of the plants.

I think that the Jack Herer #3 and Passion #1 plants are enjoying the bigger plastic pots they both have a much more open structure than the slightly older plants with wider internode spacing.

They are both growing well and look like they will be ready to put into root pouches by the weekend and hopefully they will be ready to top as well.

Happy growing...  :pleasantry:

Time for a mid week progress update on the plants.

This morning the dirt in the root pouches and the plastic pots was dry and they all felt nice and light.

So I decided to repot the Jack Herer and Passion #1 plants into root pouches, so I filled two root pouches with dirt and placed a plastic plant pot in the root pouch so I could fill it with dirt to the right level.

After filling the root pouches with dirt I took them up to the bathroom and put them next to the grow tent, I then put some dirt into a bucket and brought that inside and then I got an old newspaper and laid it out on the floor.

I then took the Jack Herer and Passion #1 plants out of the grow tent and removed their plastic pots I then removed the plastic pot from the dirt in the root pouches and placed the plants into the holes in the dirt in the root pouches.

Then I gave the 2 Jack Herer plants that were already in root pouches 600ml of water each and then I gave the Jack Herer and Passion #1 plants 500ml of water each after watering each plant I put them back into the tent under the LED.

Here are some images I took as I repotted the plants.

I will top Jack Herer #3 and Passion #1 tomorrow so they have a couple of days to recover before I put them on a 12/12 photoperiod next week.

As you can see in the images above of side view of the Jack Herer #33 and the Passion #1 the internode spacing is bigger than on Jack Herer #1 and #2 below, it will be interesting to see how they stretch when they start flowering.

Here are some images of the other 2 Jack Herer plants that were already in root pouches.

Both plants have recovered after being topped and they are growing well, once the plants start to stretch and I can see their structure I can decide what to trim off at the bottom of each plant to tidy up.

Happy growing...  :pleasantry:

@g22 thanks bro

I started to germinate beans on the 12th of November 2019 and by the 20th I had managed to germinate 2 Jack Herer and they were in root plugs under a fuorescent tube and by the 5th of December I had the 3rd Jack Herer and the Passion #1 in root plugs under the fluorescent tube.

So they are a good 30 days old now so on Monday I will put the bloom switch in the on position and adjust the timer and start the 12/12 photoperiod.

I will still give them the grow feed next time I feed them all when the dirt in their root pouches is dry in a couple of days, they will need grow food for a couple of feeds as they stretch.

Time for a weekly progress update on the plants which are all growing well, this morning the dirt in all of the plants root pouches was dry so I watered and fed them.

Last night when I was looking at the Green House Feed catalogue for information about the mineral feed booster I noticed the information about the calcium additive can be used where the water is soft to make up for the lack of calcium in the water and it can be used throughout the whole grow veg and flowering.

All of the Plant Magic nutrients I have are for soft water the guys at the hydroponic store only stock this because the water in this area is soft.

A few fan leaves low down on the two oldest plants Jack Herer #1 and #2 are discoloured and a couple are going yellow I was thinking this maybe due to lack of light, but due to the fact the water in this area is soft I am thinking it could be a calcium deficiency.

So I mixed a feed solution containing 0.5g per litre of the calcium additive, 0.6g of grow feed and 3ml per litre root stimulant, in total I mixed 3 litres of feed solution.

I gave Jack Herer #3 and Passion #1 700ml of the feed solution and then I gave Jack Herer #1 and #2 about 850ml of the feed solution each and then I placed them back into the grow tent under the LED.

Here are some images I took.

Some information about the plants.

Jack Herer #1 is 17cm tall, Jack Herer #2 is 17cm tall, Jack Herer #3 is 20cm tall and Passion #1 is 14cm tall.

Some values for the grow tent.

Maximum temperature = 29.3C
Minimum temperature = 19.4C

Maximum humidity = 93%
Minimum humidity = 49%

The day time temperature inside the tent is 26C to 30C  average temperature in day is 26C the night time temp is about 19C

The day time humidity is now 60% to 70% and the night time humidity is about 50% the maximum humidity would have been after watering and feeding the plants.

Tomorrow I will set the bloom switch on the LED to the on position and adjust the timer so they have a 12/12 photoperiod to get the ball rolling and get them into flower.

More updates to follow, happy growing...  :pleasantry:

Time for a mid week progress update on the plants, this is day 3 of 12/12

All of the plants are growing well and seem to have enjoyed the last feed, this morning the dirt in the root pouches was nice and dry so I gave the plants 1 litre of water each and then put them back in the tent under the LED.

Now all of the plants are using the same amount of water and feed, I will increase the amount by 250ml when I feed and water them next time the dirt dries out in about 3 days time on Saturday.

Here are some images I took this afternoon just before I watered the plants.

On the Passion #1 plant I noticed that it has some fan leaves with 8 leaflets and the fan leaf on the opposite side of the node has 9 leaflets, you can see it in the image above the fan leaf on the right has 8 leaflets.

Here are some better images of the fan leaves.

Time for a slightly belated end of week progress update on the plants at the end of week 1 and start of week 2 of flowering.

I am a bit late updating my journal because the driver for the Nvidia graphics card on my workstation suddenly stopped working, so I am now running the open source driver and I have cool runnings again.

So all of the plants are growing well and on Saturday the dirt in their root pouches was dry so I mixed up 3 litres of feed solution containing Plant Magic root stimulant 3ml per litre, GHS calcium 0.5g per litre and GHS grow powder feed at 0.6g per litre.

Then I placed each plant in the shower cubicle and gave them 1litre and 250ml of the feed solution each and then put them back into the grow tent under the LED.

Here are some images I took of the plants before I watered and fed them.

Preparing the feed solution.

All of the plants are quietly stretching now and increasing in height as they build lots of new nodes.

Jack Herer #1 is now 26cm tall, Jack Herer #2 is 24cm tall, Jack Herer #3 is 27cm tall and Passion #1 is 20cm tall.

Last week the maximum temperature in the grow tent was 30.2C, the minimum temperature was 18.2C, the maximum humidity was 99% and the minimum humidity was 40% the day time temperature was 26C to 29C averaging at about 27C and the humidity in the day was between 60% to 70% averaging at about 60%.

The night time temperature was about 18C and the night time humidity was about 50%.

This was the last grow feed I will give them, when the dirt in their root pouches dries out in a couple of days I will give them all a good flush with about 4 litres of water each and then let them all really dry out.

Then it will be time to start feeding them with the flowering nutrients, the Jack Herer will get the hybrid nutrient and the Passion #1 will get the short flower feed.

I am well pleased with the progress of the plants I can see some pistles in a few places on them now, next week I will put the dehumidifier back in the grow tent to reduce the humidity to help the plants to transpire harder.

More updates to follow, happy growing...  :pleasantry:

@Jose.gh yes they have responded well after topping and the change of photoperiod

that spike in humidity is after watering during the night, I leave the 6 inch fan running all the time in the tent blowing air around the plants and I usually have the window open a crack just to vent the room as long as it is not too cold outside otherwise the temperature in the room and the tent drops.

Next week when I put the dehumidifier in the tent it will smooth things, also I watered a couple of hours before the LED went off I now prefer to water and feed as early as possible in the day to allow them to transpire as much as possible while the LED is on a reduce that spike in humidity.

It does the plants no harm because we water the dirt not the leaves.

All of the plants are growing well at the moment they still seem to be stretching each day the structure opens up a bit more as they get bigger, they seem to be responding well since I added the calcium to the feed mix.

Jack Herer #1 = 31cm
Jack Herer #2 = 31cm
Jack Herer #3 36cm
Passion #1 = 28cm

Here are some images I took this afternoon.

I put the dehumidifier in the tent this morning when I moved the plants around the tent, it has increased the temperature by a couple of degrees so I have the little window open more now to balance the temperature by simply increasing airflow.

I have set the dehumidifier to 45% the dirt in the root pouches will be nice and dry tomorrow so I wil give them all 4 litres of water to flush the dirt, then when the dirt dries out again in a few days they will give them their first feed of the flowering nutrients.

Happy growing... :pleasantry:
