Thursday 28 May 2020

This morning the package containing the new beans for the strain test arrived when I opened the envelope for a moment I thought it contained a plastic zip type bag with the SilverBack beans and a pack of king size skins, but I was gobsmacked when I pulled them out because it was a pac of Cloud Walker beans.

Cloud Walker and SilverBack beans and a nice fat spliff of Jack Herer.

28may-2020-new-beans-packages.thumb.jpg.cc471e4fbf06379cb70c46af43de3851.jpg

After opening the packaging and taking photos I then got a piece of kitchen roll and folded it up and then placed it into a plastic food container and dripped water on it to make it nice and damp and then I placed 2 of the Cloud Walker beans between the kitchen roll to germinate them.

28may-2020-cw-beans-close-up.thumb.jpg.3860170369a3ef38a8b636c4e2c007f3.jpg

After placing the Cloud Walker beans between the damp kitchen roll I then placed the lid on the plastic food container and then I placed it in a drawer under a hand towel so it is a dark and not too warm or cold.

28may-2020-cw-bean-container-drawer.thumb.jpg.c762ebb9eabb2e9bf581649e82fcd8a7.jpg

I decided not to bother to start the germination process by soaking the beans for a few hours I decided to play it safe and just put them between damp kitchen roll from the start, I seem to have problems when I do not soak the beans.

Now it is simply a case of waiting for the beans to pop once they crack their shell casings.

I will let the tap roots get a bit longer then I will put them into Root It sponge plugs and put them under the fluorescent tube.

Happy growing... :pleasantry:

Sunday 31 May 2020

This morning when I checked the Cloud Walker beans one has really grown its tap root.

31may-2020-cw-beans-tap-roots.thumb.jpg.f1a9dbfc5cbdb6432df1e4f7c1d2830d.jpg

After I had something to eat I got 2 Root It plugs soaked them in cold water then squeezed out the excess water and then I cut them down one side with a pair of scissors and then I gently placed the germinated beans in the Root It plugs.

I put the sponge plugs into their little black plastic pots and placed them onto a small plastic plant pot saucer.

31may-2020-cw-beans-root-plugs.thumb.jpg.10e70df568b31afc64fe3ef6b197802e.jpg

Then I placed the plastic saucer and root plugs under the fluorescent tube.

I will leave the fluorescent tube on so they start on a 24 hour photoperiod until they both grow above the sponge surface.

Happy growing... :pleasantry:

This morning when I checked on the Cloud Walkers the one with the really long tap root has grown above the sponge plug surface and she is now earth strong, the other one is slowly coming into view she will probably come earth strong tomorrow.

Last night when I checked the Cloud Walker seedlings I could see the second one was just visible at the surface of the root plug.

This morning at 06.30am when I got up and checked them the second seedling is now earth strong she is just above the surface of the sponge and she has left her little helmet in the hole in the sponge plug.

So I dripped a bit of water on the sponge plugs to keep them nice and damp for the day then I took some photos.

Last night when I checked the Cloud Walker seedlings the second seedling had grown a few millimetres above the surface of the Root It sponge plug.

This morning at 06.30am when I checked on them it had grown more and is now well clear of the surface of the sponge plug and is almost the same height as the first seedling.

When I lift the sponge plug out of the little black plastic pot the tap root is visible at the bottom of the sponge plug for both of the seedlings they are definitely a vigorous strain.

I will start to give them a weak solution of root stimulant tomorrow then in a few days I will pot them.

Time for a progress update on the 2 Cloud Walker seedlings.

The slower seedlings is now a similar size to the first more vigorous seedling, but the first true leaves are still slightly smaller on the slower less vigorous one, but she is catching up.

So I decided it was time to get them both potted in plastic pots and some Light Mix, here are some images of the process.

Cloud Walker seedlings in their little black plastic pots.

I gave each seedling about 40ml of water to make the dirt around them damp before I put them both back under the fluorescent tube, I will just give them water as they get established and get their roots into the dirt before I give them any root stimulant.

I will keep them under the fluorescent tube for at least another couple of weeks to get them stronger and bigger before I put them outside, the weather is starting to warm up again after a few cool days with showers.

Thanks @OG.Naj

Yes when I want to get the plants flowering I have some cardboard I use to cover the shed windows so I can control the photoperiod.

At the moment I put the two Passion #1 plants in the shed at about 8pm and they sit next to the window to they follow the day getting as much light as possible while they veg, as soon as they are ready to start flowering I just cover the windows and make sure they only get 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark.

I will do the same thing with these Cloud Walker plants once they are ready, this way I have the same control as I have with the grow tent, so I do not have to wait of nature and the plants to do the right thing before the end of the season.

At 12.30pm when I switched on the fluorescent tube and woke up the Cloud Walker seedlings the dirt in their plastic pots was dry.

So I mixed 2ml of Plant Magic root stimulant in 1ltr of water and then I gave each seedling 100ml of the solution.

Then I put them back under the fluorescent tube.

Here are some images I took of the seedlings before I watered them.

The past couple of days have started off dull and cloudy but the weather soon healed up, today it started dull and wet and has stayed that way all day, the forecast for tomorrow and coming days is better so its a good job they are inside at the moment.

Time for a weekly update on the 2 Cloud Walker seedlings.

Both of the seedlings are healthy and growing the dirt in their plastic pots is still a bit damp but they do feel lighter.

Here are some images I took this afternoon.

As soon as the dirt in the little plastic pots dries out again in a couple of days time I will give them both 100ml of the water and root stimulant solution.

The weather seems to be taking a turn for the better and looks like we will have some better weather in what is left of June.

Happy growing... :pleasantry:

@Mama Jane inner luv for the kind words

Yes they are about 2 weeks old I started to germinate the beans on the 28th of May the day they arrived.

When they are under the fluorescent tube the leaves are touching the tube which is probably helping to keep the inter-nodes nice and tight.

I am pleased with their progress, as for my skills I still do dumb stuff at times :punish:like over feeding, but I am learning.

Yesterday afternoon I put the young Cloud Walker plants outside with the 2 Passion #1 girls to enjoy some sunshine for a few hours.

Then in the evening I brought them inside and put them on the toilet window sill to enjoy the light until it started to go dark then I put them in the cupboard next to the tent under the fluorescent tube for the night.

This morning at 06.30am when I got up I switched off the fluorescent tube until 12.30pm then I switched on the fluorescent tube again to start their day after some beauty sleep.

At that point it was cloudy and raining the forecast was for thundery showers but we just got rain showers.

I had brought the Passion #1 plants into the conservatory because the light quality is better than in the shed, by around 3pm or 15.00pm the weather healed up and the sun came out and the dark clouds dispersed.

So I moved the Passion #1 outside and then I moved the baby Cloud Walkers outside to enjoy a few hours of sunshine.

The dirt in their little plastic pots was dry and they felt nice and light so before I put them outside I gave each plant 100ml of water and root stimulant, I don't think they need and grub yet they look a nice healthy green colour at the moment.

While they have been on the window sill they keep leaning towards the light so I keep turning them away so they have to then lean the other way towards the light and with the window open and a gentle breeze blowing it is helping to strengthen their stems. :training:

Time for a quick mid week progress update.

At 12.30pm when I switched the Fluorescent tube on it was nice and warm and sunny outside so I took both of the young Cloud Walker plants out into the back yard and put them with the 2 older Passion #1 girls to soak up some rays and feel the breeze. :sungum:

Not long after I took the photos above it started to rain so I moved them into the shed doorway and then into the conservatory, then I moved the Cloud Walkers back under the fluorescent tube again for the night.

The forecast for tomorrow is light rain showers and gentle breeze which is the same as it was for today, but Friday it looks like the start of some warm weather so hopefully they can enjoy lots of sunshine over the weekend and next week.

Happy growing... :pleasantry:

Time for a progress update on the 2 Cloud Walker girls.

The weather over the past couple of days has been pretty crap its been dull and cloudy and it has rained a lot so they Cloud Walkers have been in the conservatory or under the fluorescent tube.

The plants are now 13cm and 14cm tall they are growing nicely and look healthy.

The dirt in their plastic pots looked dry yesterday and they felt light so at 12.30pm when I switched on the fluorescent tube and woke them up today I gave each plant 150ml of the root stimulant solution.

Then I took them both outside into the back yard to soak up the rays.

Here are some images I took this afternoon.

20june-2020-cw-top-view.thumb.jpg.8c85ba78d2306fec3ebf0dd0abfaf243.jpg

The distance between the first and second nodes has grown over the past few days comparing the images of the plants with the last update on Wednesday, they definitely seem happy in the light mix.

I have been leaving the cupboard door open during the night to reduce the humidity and help the dirt in their little plastic pots dry out, they look like their roots have now conquered their pots so I will put them into root pouches soon.

More updates soon, happy growing... :pleasantry:

When I switched on the fluorescent tube and woke up the Cloud Walker girls at 12.30pm the dirt in their little plastic pots was dry and they felt nice and light so I made up 1 litre of feed solution containing 2ml of root stimulant and 0.4g of grow powder feed.

In the information for the grow feed it says 0.6g but I am playing it safe using less to avoid nutrient burn.

I gave each of the Cloud Walkers 200ml of the feed solution then I put them both outside with the Passion #1 girls in the sun.

Happy growing... :pleasantry:
