Hey'all!

It's been a while. A long while.
But i'm back at it! Finally!

So: I've been long debating with friends (i guess we all do) about whether a plant would survive a 24/0 schedule, hence a 24 hours of light and no time for a nap.
We all know where this discussion goes: "YES it's possible! NO it's not! It's not natural! But automatics!!" It's an endless cycle of despair, and nobody has a true, definitive answer to the question.
Now, i know many people have done this before, and yes, i'm very aware of my economical expendancies, thank you.
All i want to do is see it with my own eyes.
Will the plant suffer because of a constant 24 hours schedule? Possibly. I want to see that. And if it doesn't, then it'll be just a big plus for me.
Will the plant go hermie on me, because of light stress? Who knows! I'm here to learn.

So here i am, drinking a cola, dirtying my hands, gluing soundproof panels to the walls.
It took me a while, but hey, look at the results!

5fef9ff51bdcd_G.TentS.ProofBoxes.thumb.jpeg.dd831742bd4a466d4854da33eadac47c.jpeg
Soundproofing the whole room took me exactly 145 50x50cm panels, by the cost of 4 euros each, hence a grand total of 580 euros.
I've also boxed the extractors. Covered the lower one with panels as i didn't want to do occult ads, hehe.
The boxes are inner-covered with soundproof panels as well.

I've also decided to freshen my light rack.
I'm using a good old shitty 65W Cob lamp, and in late flowering i'm going to add a couple extrashitty ufos, 9W each, just to add some colors to the white, dead spectrum of the COB. Some blurple can't hurt, amirite?

For this run, i chose a Northern Lights (Feminized), and the schedule i'm gonna run on her is gonna be a 24/0 in the 2 first weeks of the VEG phase. If the extra light theory works, then that should definitely save me some time.
Why did i choose a NL? Well, it's a pretty easy strain to grow, and responds well to techniques and stress. The whole idea of this grow is to be experimental, not professional.
Gonna use a 1Gallon (3.8 Lt) pot for this run. Small, compact, practical. Like a chocolate bar.

So this is it, for now.
I'll post the next update in a few days, with the lowered rack and the fantastic Green House Seeds fertilizers are pumped in.
Until then.. Peace!

Oh, and happy new year!

Hey'all!

I've finally understood a critical error in my scheduling, and it took me a long time to.
For all these years, i've been skipping the Seedling Stage.
Or, in better words, i didn't know there was a Seedling Stage and i've always included it in the VEG Stage.
This is critical. For this reason, i've decided to extend my "VEG" period by 2 weeks, giving the little seedling time to establish itself and get ready for a more intensive growing situation (nutrients, closer light, more waterings).

Leaving my scheduling mess aside, the seedling is alive and fast responsive to light changes.
I've changed my light's height yesterday, 5th of January, from 80cm to 60cm, and in the matter of 2 hours the seedling was "praising" the light. Praise the sun!!
Anyway, here's what she looks like.

Now, i've had my small share of seedlings in the past years, but i've never encountered such a weird looking one. The first set of leaves are curling already, and the 3-pointed set seems to be doing that as well. But the plant is also in her 7th day of life, so maybe that's a lil early to say anything about it.
The look of it, though, makes me think: NL is 80% Indica, 20% Sativa. Could it be possible i got lucky and blessed with the sativa phenotype? Again, it's a little too early to say it, but 2-3 weeks should do the trick and unveil the mistery.

Gonna post the next update in a week or so. By then, i'll start feeding her just a lil amount (75% GppL - Grams per pot liter, or 3 grams) of GHSC's Enhancer.
Until then... Peace!

@LedCherryBerry wow bro that was going to be a short veg period at 2 weeks then going to 12/12

I think it will help to lessen the stress being on a 24 hour photoperiod giving them more time to get stronger before you start to flower them.

Yes I agree the light seems a long way from the top of the plant, but that said I am mindful that you said your just messing about experimenting with this run.

It could turn out to be a new form of stress training

for me, the sprout is so elongated and the stem is thin.

closer light, and you need air to blow the plant.

Good luck!

Heyo o/
Appreciate the hints. I'm gonna try to increase humidity, some way or the other.
This light is a piece of shit. It pulls 890umol at 60cm and 320 at 100cm.
I figured 60cm would be ok, considering i'm not enriching the tent with Co2.
It is also the first time i'm using this cob light, so i'm still trying to figure out how it's doing.
Also moved the fan to hit the pot, on your advice.

Indeed. I literally like to pull more vegging time on the babies, but this is just an experiment.
It's a miracle if the seed popped at all: the bag was exposed to high and low temps for a couple of years, and as a result that's the only seed that popped out of 3.
Maybe that's also a reason for its current look. Stressed before germination.

The light has to be a way on top of the plant. At its current height, it's pulling approximately 800umol and around 13.000 lumens.
If i were to bring it closer, i'd risk burning and heat stress. Not really something i want for a seedling.
We'll see how this develops. Today i can clearly see the set of leaves with 3 fingers.

Hey'all!

The girl's doing alright.
It's her 14th day of life, and i can start seeing the 5-finger set of leaves popping into existence.
The leaves are still weird looking, one of the 3-finger leaf is actually a 2-finger mutated leaf (one finger never developed), and there appears to be a small color mutation too. Nothing worrying, the plant's doing fine.

During the weekend, however, the thermometer fell right on top of it, almost snapping the stem.
My heart sank, but luckily i managed to get her back on her "feet", with some cure and dirt.

I did, though, manage to get a humidifier, and raise the current RH from 35% to an average of 60%.
This helped the seedling out a lot.

Today i fed her with 0.75 GPWL (Grams per water liter) BioEnhancer (Green House Seed Company), which will help her roots to further expand before i start feeding her the actual VEG nutrients in about a week.
Bag says 0.5-1 GPWL, so i went a mid-way.

During the last week, i fed her once with a 5.0 PH water only run.
Right now, though, i'm watering at 6.1 PH, 0.1 below the 6.2-6.8 average for nutrient uptake, as BioBizz soils usually tend to be a little alkaline (See my previous grow diary for PH issues).
Basically, i'm prepping the soil for the nutrient uptake.
Lastly, i've moved down the lights a little, hoping she enjoys the extra 10cm.

Anyway, enough with the ramblings, here's a couple pics!

The finger that never was, alongside some color mutations.
No, it's not pests, i checked and there's no leaf miner in those. It's just a very weird looking seedling.

Another color-mutation.

The weird looking NL in her "beauty".

I'm still debating whether i should transplant her into a bigger pot before flowering, or if i should just keep going with the 1Gallong - 4Liters pot.
I understand all the implications of a smaller pot, but also the risks of a bigger one. I'll see how the plant reacts to the Veg nutrients and decide from there onwards.
I'll see you in a week for the update.
Until then, peace!

Hey'all!

Sorry for the delay in the update.
This week was a busy one, both for me and for the plant, and i quite forgot to write it.
Anyhoo, here it is.

At the beginning of Week3, i started feeding her 2.5 GPSL (Grams per soil liter) GHSC's VEG nutes (10g), but i didn't like the sad look on her face, so today i decided to transplant it into a bigger pot.
Unfortunately i didn't have a cloth pot with me, so i went with the good old 30Liters bucket (7ish gallons).
Because of this, i added some more Nutes, bringing the total up to 40 Grams per soil liter, compared to the maximum of 60-90.
This means i fed her a total of 1.3 GPSL VEG Nutes.

I also decreased the lamp to a height of 45cm. This marks the beginning of the Vegetative Phase.
The VEG phase will last a minimum of 2 weeks, and based on how the plant develops, i'll decide whether to extend or shorten this phase.
Next week i'll proceed with the topping at the 4th-5th internode (depending on if the plant actually develops the 5th internode in this week).
I know this is not recommended (topping a 3weeks old seedling is not exactly the best thing to do, as it may slow down the plant), but i've got time and patience to learn from my mistakes. Also, in the last grow i proceded in the same exact way, and managed to achieve almost 100grams of dried product with 160ish Watts. I'm definitely not expecting more from this grow.

Anyway, enough with the rambling! Here's a couple pics!

Note that the "leaves twisting issue" is gone, or greatly reduced, in newer growth.
This must've been caused by PH problems, or something else i clearly have no knowledge of.
So i'll go with the PH idea, since it's the only thing i've changed in her feeding schedule.

Pics taken right after transplant, the girl looks a bit suffering because of that.
I'll work on keeping RH high as 60-70%. Ventilation is good enough to avoid mold/fungi, and the plant might need an extra humidity in the air to thrive.

I've also ordered a Co2 bag. Some say they suck, some say they make miracles. Since this is a test and not a serious grow diary, i'll throw the bastard in and test that as well. Overall, Co2 can't do nothing more than help the plant.

----------------------------

I'll see you guys next week, when i'll top her and feed her with some GHSC's Enhancer.
Until then, be safe and peace!

Hey'all!

This week was full of changes.
First of all, the supposedly Co2 farting bag (mycelium and some other bullshittery) is fracking amazing.
It arrived on friday, and by Sunday the plant had a complete new look.
Leaves are finally of an intense green, they're not drooping anymore, and she substantially doubled her size in a matter of 4 days.
The addition of Co2 seems to have helped fixing a little overwatering issue, as with the plant growing, so does the rootball.
And if the rootball grows, the amount of soil clogged up actually diminishes.
This doesn't mean the plant will not suffer from root rot/overwatering in the future. It just means it overcame a difficult moment.

601076f6de2b3_Co2Bag.thumb.JPG.9e12d16eed9f6b789a559a29031f37f1.JPG

In addition to the Co2 bag, i upgraded the ventilation system.
The old setup was made of 2 extractors running at 110 m3/hr, and considering i use active carbon filters on both ends (I/O), I've got to calculate a -25% efficiency on those.
Meaning that the real amount of air being moved was around 82.5 m3/hr.
The new extractors (and filters, ofc) run at a 250m3/hr, meaning that, with that -25%, i'm getting I/O 187.5 m3/hr.
Considering my grow tent CBM is 0.612m3, i've passed from repleneshing the air inside the tent from a lil bit more than twice a minute, to a lil bit more than five times a minute!
This will help the plant to develop even further. More air can't hurt, right? :)

601076fb330c3_NewVentilation.thumb.JPG.ea293b49d43e70c95a359d0cb98b5673.JPG

Speaking of airflow, i've also made a "Mod" for the pot i'm using.
Got a plastic tube, approximately 4cm in diameter, 80cm long.
Cut the thing in 4 pieces, and carved 64 holes on each tube, 5mm wide, and planted them 15cm into the soil.
This allows air to penetrate deep into the rootzone, and also reducing humidity/wetness in the pot itself, allowing it to dry faster.
Unfortunately, i can't find my old 18L cloth-pot, so i was forced to use a 30L plastic pot.
Plastic pots suck ass, because they never manage a good drainage, so this was my solution to it.

601076f374e26_AirTube.thumb.JPG.597e541e8b0c4c5b6b3ed35dd0cffc97.JPG

Anyway, about NL24.
Today is NLday 28. This marks the beginning of her last vegging week, but i do plan to extend such period.
She is approximately 20cm tall, NL24 has now 6 internodes. It had 7 this morning, but i performed Topping.
I've also cut a couple fan leaves (100% healthy leaves, no issues) in order to give the lower branches more light penetration.
I like to grow my plant in a semi-scrog (SCRog = Screen Of Green): i don't use any net whatsoever, but i try to even the canopy myself with topping and a touch of LST.
Today i also fed NL24 with 1gpwl GHSC's Enhancer, 25% more than the last time. This is gonna be the max amount i'll use in the future, every 2 weeks.
Currently feeding her at 6.2-6.3PH.

Lastly, i got my battery pack for my camera. Here's a couple good quality pics!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As i said earlier, i'm probably gonna extend the VEG phase, until the canopy looks even to my eyes.
If the plant grows as fast as she's been doing the last 4-5 days, and if she recovers from the topping, I calculate to bring her to flowering stage in about 3 weeks.
Imma post a weekly update, as always.

So, until next time.. Be safe.
Peace!

I try that c02 bag before it works I could smell it when I open the tent and lightly push on the bag

It is not supposed to "smell". Co2 has a "sharp, acidic" smell in high concentrations, far more than a mere 600-1500ppm. Usually, toxicity levels for humans are around 5.000-10.000 ppm. It becomes lethal at around 80.000-100.000 ppm.
If you "smell" it, it's probably just a bad product.
This said, the bag HAS a distinct odor, but if it's smelling different from normal substrate/fungi activity, then you might want to change the bag ;)

With the TNB Naturals Enhancer the smell of the gas escaping from the beenie hole in the lid of the bottle is yeast like smell the refill pellets are some sort of yeast to which you add a litre of warm water to activate the yeast and start the solution fermenting this is how the CO2 is produced.

The first refill I bought a couple of weeks back doesn't seem to be producing the same amount of CO2 as what was in the dispense bottle I originally bought, they certainly cost dear compared with the Exhale bags.

Thanks @LedCherryBerry for sharing your news about the Exhale CO2 bag that is great news about the plants health getting a boost.

I was wondering if there was a smell from the Exhale bags they use fungi to produce the CO2

I think that the smell the fungi produce is down to the sterilized wood shaving substrate in the bag that they are feeding on.

I honestly can't tell if there's a difference of smell in the room.
I guess that the smell gets actually filtered by the carbon filters. I got one in, and one out, meaning that the bottom one filters smells and lets air IN the tent, while the out one ofc does the opposite job (filters the tent's air and pulls it outside) so the room stays completely clear of smells.
All i can tell is that the plant overall looks way healthier, and compared to the effort i'm putting into it (basically none), it's a good buy.
They advertise the bag to last 6 months, but people say 3-4 months. For the use i have for it, 3-4 months is enough.
All i know is that i actually need it to grow in this room, because i can't really get air from outside or it'd be suspicious (also can't cover noise outside).

Anyway, i cut another couple fan leaves, to let the canopy get full light. I also started some LST on the lower branches.
Update coming in a few days.
Be safe out there peeps o7

Hey'all!
Sorry for the delay in posting.

NL24 aka Julia is a female!
Yes, yes, i knew already, but it's always a relief to see the sex before sending the supposed girl to flower.

_MG_4063.thumb.JPG.855d5e0cf95d723ea8b9f048f33d18b9.JPG

As i said in a previous post, i cut a couple more fan leaves, and have started LST on all branches.
This is my method. Or at least, the method i found fitting for myself.
Proper LST is done, usually, without topping the plant. The whole plant gets twisted and bent.
Lower and side branches reach an even height creating a decently flat canopy.
I, though, like to top the plant.
This gives the plant approximately 1-2 days to stop growing, recover and spread the energies she put into the main, now topped cola, to all other branches.
The moment i see some growth, i start LST on lower branches, to even them to a somewhat flat lower canopy.
At this point, the secondary top colas have grown a little, so i can start heavily bend them. I always try to achieve a perfect 90° "T" shape.
From this point, it takes 1-2 weeks for the plant to even out in height, in a "V" shape.
And of course, when that shape is reached, i start flowering.

_MG_4059.thumb.JPG.75d94bd937f13f607aca26ce21a9d327.JPG

_MG_4060.thumb.JPG.6f898c4690f9d7b86916d10071c8803b.JPG

_MG_4057.thumb.JPG.4d14f177f0ffee8df328db4f765d3b09.JPG

Amazingly and weirdly enough, NL24 suffered a tiny copper deficiency, during Week 4 (Veg week 2).
The new growth showed yellow discoloration on tips. This can be mistaken as a PH problem, overwatering, or light burn.
Copper deficiency is actually super rare, as usually happens because your water is extremely filtered, or your media is poor in copper itself.

_MG_4061.thumb.JPG.bb601a1b02af2f70bfefbcd928b1d958.JPG

Now, fixing a copper deficiency is always a pain in the ass.
Copper is found in nutrients, yes, but nutrients with microelements don't contain ONLY copper.
Those nutrients always include other elements, such as iron, zync, manganese, boron, and other shit the plant needs.
The problem with adding such nutrients is that you might actually fix the copper deficiency, but you also might end up giving the plant an excess of ALL the other microelements.
And then you'd start wondering if you either messed up, or if it actually was the PH in the first place...
You'll just scratch your head to the point of going a bit mad.
So the correct way to go is try 1 thing at a time.
"But Led, how do you add goddamn copper to your media without causing an excess of it? How do you know how much is enough?"
The answer is: I don't fucking know.
So like all other human beings, i used my friend Google.
Some people suggest to use fungicides, because they contain copper sulfate.
Other people suggest to use copper coins. Yeah, some actually stick copper coins into their soil, and some other do copper teas.
Opted for the copper tea... but how do you do that? How can you blend copper with water?
Again, the answer is i don't fucking know. But all i know is that surface, in this case, matters a LOT.
A coin will be way, way harder to dissolve than bits of copper.
So what did i do?
I got a piece of electric cable, which is made of a cover in plastic and, ofc, 100% copper beneath the cover (copper coins usually contain around 90% copper).
Took scissors and cut the cable hairs into tiny 0.5-1mm pieces.
I then put the copper bits into a water bottle, filled it with warm water, shake it and let it rest for a couple days.
When i watered the plant, i used half of the bottle's water and mixed it with sink water, in order to decrease a possible excess.

And now? New growth shows no burned tips whatsoever.
Success!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll catch you guys in a few days.
I'll procede with a minor defoliage, in order to get the maximum light penetration before sending her to flower.
Until then, stay safe. Peace!

Hey'all!

NL24 aka Julia responded well to LST.
The canopy is getting even, and although i'm aware that i wont be able to even it to a flat canopy, i'm gonna send her to flowering next week.
This week i fed her with 1GPWL GHSC's Enhancer. As always, enhancer is given every 2 weeks to stimulate root growth (hence plant's health).

Considering that the Northern Lights i'm growing is 80% Indica - 20% Sativa, and that by the looks of it the phenotype i'm growing is more indica-looking, i expect her to grow less than double her size when sent to 12/12.
This is a common rule (for those who don't know it).
You'll find that, usually, indicas double her size when sent to flowering, while sativas can actually triple it.
So for indicas, expect a 100-200% growth, while for sativas it can be 100-300%.
This "rule" is another reason for why i like my plant to assume a flat canopy before i send her to flower.
Distributing the light among all the colas is essential to:
- not get any cola burned
- get an even growth of all colas
- management becomes way easier

I've also performed a defoliage + removal of low branches, this allows the colas that i want to grow to get more energy/light.
I left some branches near to the big, main colas, because they were grown already, and also because i'm a soft guy: i don't want to hurt my plant too much
But enough with the ramblings!
Here's a couple pics:

I'll see you guys in less than a week.
Today's day 44 (full week 6) and i plan to flower her on day 49 (start of week 7).
When i do, i'll feed her with 2.5 GPSL GHSC's flowering nutes, and considering i'm using approximately 25 liters of the 30 liter pot, that amounts to around 62.5 grams of powders.
Until then...
Stay safe! Peace!
