Boy this is such a lovely country. Words cannot describe the open space underafrian skies of blue with plenty of space and what a lovely people. Plus you topped it this time with that lounge - man those tropical wooden furnitures real stylish. Bet the wine you had for dinner tasted just as good as the nie buds.

I loved to go visit that place myself. What kind of music do they play ? Even the toilet and those round huts were nice .

Love it love it love it.

Saludos y felices fuamdas, Mr.X.

pd more photos coming... :bye:

STRAIN HUNTERS SWAZILAND - DAY 5

I wake up well rested, like the rest of the crew. I make some coffee the real Italian way, in the small percolator that Simon always brings along, and roll some spliffs before going to eat breakfast with the others. It's another sunny morning, we are really lucky with the weather.

During breakfast we discuss our plan for the remaining of our Swazi adventure, looking at a map that Simon used for the scouting missions; then we pack our bags, load the cars and drive off to a village not far from the Phophonyane waterfalls. There Simon arranged a meeting with our guide for the day, a rastaman who makes great wood carvings and grows great pot.

We leave the cars in the small village and proceed walking, along a group of houses, a busy local school, and off into the bush. It does not take long to reach the fields, but along the way we have to follow a stream and we stop to take some shots at amazing landscapes and fauna. We see a tree completely covered in spider nets, with millions of spiders living inside: scary shit.

When we reach the field it's extreme joy because the plants are incredibly beautiful, but also some disappointment because we know it's still not the original Swazi landrace. There is a lot of mix in the genetics, a lot of foreign influence. Some plants have bright pink hairs, and smell like detergent, or washing powder. Others have red-purple calyxes and a scent of violet and lilac, very floral.

Then we keep walking through the field and we get to a patch of plants that are very uniform and very sativa-looking, much taller than the rest and still in mid-flowering. According to the rastaman-carver these plants are real Swazi landrace! They are really tall, over 3 meters, lanky, with long branches and long, thin buds. The smell is woody, incense-like, with some nuttiness and some sweet spices in the background. We are truly excited, we check plant by plant to verify they are truly uniform, and then we collect seeds from several plants before shooting some scenes for the documentary.

The film-crew is doing a great job, they are fast and efficient, and they are always ready to shoot at the right moment. MrX is running around possessed by the kind of energy he only gets when he's surrounded by beautiful plants and buds. Simon tells me that tomorrow we will reach a location where there is only real Swazi landrace growing, near a big river. I feel that we are getting closer and closer to accomplishing our mission, and it is a great feeling.

Time passes fast and we have to keep moving. After walking back to the cars we decide to go shoot sceneries at a big waterfall where we have to meet a local contact. The drive takes longer than expected, and we arrive at the top of the waterfalls almost at sunset. The light is ideal for filming, and the scenery is breathtaking. There are flat rocks scattered all around, where the local growers dry their crop in two to three days when needed (speed-drying). The rocks get really hot under the sun during the day, and the growers lay weed on them to dry. It's something we have never seen before, and we take some time to shoot it for the documentary.

At the bottom of the waterfalls there is a beautiful pool where we can take a refreshing swim, so we decide to follow a steep path down. It is slippery and the crew struggles with the equipment, but it's well worth it: the natural pool is awesome and jumping in it is truly reinvigorating. Arjan jumps in first, I follow soon after, and we swim under the waterfall carrying a GoPro camera. The water is really cold, and very soon I am shivering.

After the swim we need some energy, so we eat some mangos; then I lay flat on the warm rocks for a few minutes to regain my core temperature, and it's awesome to feel the warm rock and the loud sound of the waterfall.

We walk back along the waterfalls in the twilight, under a magic sky filling up with stars. At the cars we regroup, pack the equipment and roll a couple of massive spliffs for the drive to our next stop, a hotel about an hour away. From there, tomorrow, we will reach a river and walk upstream along the riverbanks, to look for the real Swazi landrace fields.

After about an hour on fast dirt tracks we finally reach our hotel. Time for wifi, some good food, some beers and some time to enjoy a proper smoking session.

I still have some of that indoor Exodus Cheese somewhere...
