Dust
nothing to add you said it all of course it depends on the strain but 20 to 30 days old is a good average count for sexing on 12/12 in MY setup, not saying this a common rule ^^. but personally like lams said my girls declared around 21 to 25.WE'll be waiting for the pics lams you know we never have enough
lamsbread
Thanks Dust I thought it was around that length of time. It is funny that autos take around this amount of time as well, before being mature enough to flower.PeaceLams
Dust
yes and in my experience they even take longer to flower than regular feminized seeds

lamsbread
Diahydro - a High Silica Growing Media..As Diahydro is an inert mineral medium it is sterile and free from disease and seeds.A very important benefit of diatomaceous earth is that it has the unique property of killing insects and parasites, as the sharp edges of the diatoms puncture insect exoskeletons. No insect will crawl over diatomaceous earth.I paid £21.99 for 40 litre bag (approx 25kg)It is sold as a hydroponics substrate, you would use it instead of or with (50/50) clay pebbles .I have added it to my soil mix for its high silica content to strengthen branches & leaves. I have used it for this before.I originally bought this bag to add to clay pebbles when i do hydro, which i plan to do next grow.I first came accross Diahydrow when i bought a Ikon Oxypot DWC, the kit was supposed to come with a small bag of clay pebbles, but when it arrived it came with the Diahydro as an upgrade.Diahydro Consists of the fossilised shells of algae (diatoms) that lived millions of years ago. Diahydro is produced from natural earth of a fresh water source and is extremely high in Silica (87-94%), an essential component for the growth of plants and strengthening cell walls.(CEC): High Cation Anion Exchange. A higher CEC means a medium will pass nutrients to plant roots easier and more effectively, Plants grow Faster and Stronger in Diahydro! Perfect for Container growing or Flood and Drain Systems. Diatomaceous Earth in Hydroponics (copied and pasted from wikipedia)Freshwater diatomite can be used as a growing medium in hydroponic gardens. It is also used as a growing medium in potted plants, particularly as bonsai soil. Bonsai enthusiasts use it as a soil additive, or pot a bonsai tree in 100% diatomaceous earth. Like perlite, vermiculite, and expanded clay, it retains water and nutrients, while draining fast and freely, allowing high oxygen circulation within the growing medium.Diatomaceous Earth - http://en.wikipedia....tomaceous_earth Diatomaceous earth is also used as an insecticide as it has very small sharp bits which puncture the exoskeletons of insects which leads to dehydration and death. It is also used to store seeds and kill insects that damage them. Here is an article from Urban Gardener Magazine Diatomaceous Earth: Is It In Your Mix?Imagine the fossilized skeletons of TRILLIONS of microscopic, single-celled aquatic plants, compacted and preserved over millions of years. It’s called ‘diatomaceous earth’ – the fossilized remains of unicellular fresh water plants called “Diatoms.” But this stuff is not just of interest to geologists. It also a lightweight, porous, sterile (through heat treatment), non-toxic, and safe horticultural growth media. Savvy gardeners who grow in soil, coco, clay pebbles, or other ‘loose’ media are experiencing far more vigorous growth by throwing some Diatoms into their mix. So how exactly do they do it?WORDS: Everest FernandezDiatoms have been part of our planet’s ecology since prehistoric times.Over millions of years, their remains have accumulated into large diatomite deposits. These diatoms are mined and rendered into a fine, white powder.Natural diatomite is comprised of approximately 65-80% silicon dioxide, 14-18% aluminum oxide, and small amounts of various other oxides including iron, calcium, potassium, titanium, manganese, and phosphorus.Natural grade diatomite is known as ‘Diatomaceous Earth’ (DE) and is often used as a soil amendment and organic pesticide (more on that later!).Diatoms comes from both salt water and fresh water sources, but we’re only interested in fresh water diatomite for horticulture. The salt water DE has a really high salinity level that’s not suitable for plants. Organic Pest ControlDE may feel like a smooth powder to human hands, but it’s a totally different story if you happen to be incarnated as an insect. When you look at DE under a microscope it resembles a random pile of tiny razors. These ultra-sharp edges cut through an insect’s protective covering, sucking all the moisture out of them until they die! If an insect is stupid enough to try to eat DE this delightful process occurs from the inside out! So aphids, thrips, earwigs, silverfish, slugs, snails, nematodes and fungus gnats beware! You’re on DE’s hit list. Our friendly earthworm is safe from DE’s wrath, however, which is good news all round. DE is less effective in more humid conditions as its moisture-sapping qualities are tempered by the moisture in the air. Many gardeners don’t even bother mixing DE with their soil mix, instead preferring to sprinkle a shallow layer of diatomaceous earth on top of their soil or coco. Diatomite and HydroponicsOur fossilized friends are also available in the form of small rocks, rather than a fine powder. These have been heat treated and sterilized. We are aware of three brands on the market at the moment. One is from a place called Maidenwell in Australia, branded “Diatomite.” Another is from the Andes in South America, branded in North America as “Silica Stone.” The same material that is used to create “Silica Stone” is branded as “Diahydro” in Europe. All work well as a hydroponic growth media. Silica Stone / Diahydro stays a little more moist than Diatomite so it requires fewer watering cycles – this is because it has a larger percentage of silica (94%+ compared to 84% for Diatomite), hence the pure white color and the greater absorbency due to increased porosity. You can purchase all brands in various granule sizes. It’s generally recommended to go for small granules of 3/16 to 9/16 inch (2mm to 7mm) or medium granules of 9/16 to 5/8 inch (7mm to 15mm) for hydroponic applications. So why should hydroponic gardeners be interested in this stuff? Well, it has all the hallmarks of a first-class growing medium. It’s absorbent, porous, long lasting, environmentally friendly, pH neutral, sterile, natural and reusable! As well as silica, it contains other elemental minerals that are essential for plant growth. The plants will uptake the silicate and grow into heartier, healthier plants with thicker stem walls. Manufacturers of the brand “Diatomite” cite that, in side-by-side tests, a 25% increase in production was observed when it was tested against clay pebbles on pepper plants. However, we recommend mixing it 1/3 or 50/50 with clay pebbles when growing in larger pots for increased aeration and a more varied rooting environment. Obviously adding diatomite to clay pebbles affects how you irrigate it. Diatomite holds more water so floods should be slightly less frequent – irrigations every 2-4 hours are advised. If top feeding via drippers using a 50/50 diatomite, clay pebble mix we recommend avoiding constant irrigation in favor of a 15 minutes on, 15minutes off cycle – easily implemented using a standard segmental timer. Spare us the hype! What are growers really saying about it?I know what you’re thinking. If this stuff is so great then why isn’t everybody using it, right? So we spoke to real growers who had used it … here’s what they said:“Works great as a soil amendment. As a hydro media, I’d mix it with something else like clay pebbles as it stays too wet on its own.” – HarleyUGM says: If you’re using this media for the first time, try combining it with clay pebbles for increased aeration. However, we have come across experienced growers who tested it as a hydroponic growth media on its own in gravity fed systems and they found that NOTHING worked as well as small to medium sized DE rocks on their own. Wash it well first!“If this stuff has microscopic razor sharp edges, couldn’t it damage fine roots?” – DizUGM says: The material is very sharp on a microscopic level, but we’ve seen no evidence to suggest that roots are adversely affected. This may be because plant roots grow slowly and the material is light enough so that there is never sufficient pressure or friction for the roots to be damaged.“I don’t like all that powder in the bags, it will clog my pumps!” – RandyUGM says: If you put a sponge filter on the intake pump with enough power you prevent this from happening. And remember, this stuff is also used as filtration aids so you really shouldn’t worry about clogging!“It makes the nutrient solution go cloudy.” – DanUGM says: The diatomite particles (diatoms) do not dissolve in water. Even if the water turns cloudy, the material has not dissolved.“Can’t I just add silicate to my nutrient solution by using a silica liquid product?” – Lisa VUGM says: You’re absolutely right – you could! Remember that liquid silica additives can raise the pH of your nutrient solution so you may need to pay special attention to adjusting the pH to optimal levels. BenefitsHigh Silica Content – the slow release of silica promotes stronger, healthier plants that can mature more quickly.Absorbent – it can absorb up to 150% of its own weight in water.Air penetration – the microscopic porous structure of the granules provides aeration and effective thermal insulation to the plant’s root zone. These physical properties provide air movement and prevent root rot.Water Cycles – You can reduce the watering cycles to 5 minutes each, 4 times daily due to the retention of solution within the diatomite.Preparation for use – Before using, thoroughly saturate the diatomite for about an hour.Reusable – After use, you can thoroughly wash the diatomite and then soak in a dilute solution of bleach (1 tbs/gallon) or an algaecide for 24 hours before rinsing and reusing it. More Usage TipsIt can be used to replace perlite, clay pebbles, as well as other commonly used hydroponic growing mediums. You can use it in both pots and re-circulating systems. Simply place the growth media in pots in the same manner as you have used clay pebbles or other media of choice. Place roots or seeds in a safe and stable position. On both occasions we advise that the granules are rinsed through with water prior to use. When using in recirculating systems, there may be some dust which runs down into the nutrient solution. There is no need for concern. Actually Diahydro / Silica Stone / Diatomite are highly efficient filtration aids, so this means there will be no clogging or loss of flow caused by residual dust.In order to stabilize the pH, try running some neutral water through the media and measure out pH of the water that flows out. The pH should be somewhere in the region of 6-7. Once this pH measure has been established you should adjust the nutrient solution accordingly. A nutrient solution between 5.5-6.2 should be fine. For example, if the pH of the water run off the growth media is around 7 (extreme case), the solution should be brought down to around 5.5-5.6. Likewise, if the growth media is lower (e.g. 6.2) then the solution can be brought up to about 5.6-5.8. Desired pH should be around 6 in most cases. Diatomite in ActionA picture tells a thousand words. So we’ll let them do the talking:SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!Same nutrients. Same feeding schedules. Same light and environmental conditions. The only difference? Diatomite. Oh, and hugely increased compact growth, shorter inter-nodal spacing and markedly increased overall yield. Get the picture? Silica Stone / Diahydro / Diatomite are names to look for.PeaceLams

I opened my cab near lights on time and it was 42oC in there,it is lucky i looked when i did, only one leaf got slightly scorched. It could have been a lot worse.Second mishap was to the plant which had grown 2 main stems, I did not top this plant, it just decided thats what it wanted to do.Looking at the growth on the stem, it was asymmetrical in stead of being symmetrical and I am guessing it didn't know which was the leader and ended up with two main stems. So to the mishap, I was taking pictures and was just using two legs on my tripod so i could lean over the plants and take a picture. Then disaster the tripod slipped from my hand and fell directly between the two main stems, this resulted in the main trunk splitting.Repairs have been made using duct tape, all i can do now is hope it repairs .Apart from those couple of incidents things seem to be coming along nicely and over the next 7-8 weeks we will see what these ladies can do under my LED.Any questions please ask, I will be happy to answer them.I hope you all had a Happy Christmas/Festive Season etc. and so with out further ado here are the pics. This set of pics is from the 18/12/12Under LED lightThe girls side by side3 from above3 in a row from aboveup closeSecond set of Pictures taken on 27/12/12 the split from the tripod falling overDuct tape repairsScorched fan leafFrom aboveAcross the topfull length side shotsunder story shotThe girls chilling togetherThat all for now folks, I wish you all a happy New Year PeaceLams

scooby420
Hi lamsbread,How are you finding led light i bought the elite pro grow 100 thats all i could afford.I wont be able to use it for a while though.I've tested it and found it too noisy for stealth reasons. So i've replaced the 3 x 80mm fans upgraded with new arctic cooling f8 quiet pc fans and its made a big improvement. According to my sound meter app its down from 74db to 62db and outside the drobe 37db down to 29/30db. Which is hardly audible to me so i'm pleased :-). I will scrog when i do this grow but i'm very interested in following your journal as you are doing a great job and know your stuff. I've never used led before but heat issues and stealth are my main reasons for this change. Keep up the good work stay safe and thanx for the pics. Why did you choose a 12/12 schedule from vegetation for these plants? My plant is in great shape, just a bit of duct tape and she is good as new . The grow is doing well and I am happy with my LED so far.I was inspired by Dusts grows , Which were also 12/12 from seed.He had great results, so I decided to give it a go. I like to try different methods and techniques, it is a great way to learn and with the new knowledge I acquire,I can then pass on what I have learned to others. Thanks for dropping by and for the question. Good man LED seems to already be doing a good job so far those babies have a nice shape, not much stretch and nice leaves Thanks for the news man, i hope the flowering under the LED will be as good Have a good growThe girls since the last photos have stretched a bit and are showing their hairs nicely. I have also done a little bit of defoliation, by removing the largest fan leaves to allow the light to reach the bud sites. From my past experience with defoliation, it does not take long for the foliage to grow back.New update to come soon, also lots of new pics too So far I am happy with the results of my LED.Hi lamsbread,How are you finding led light i bought the elite pro grow 100 thats all i could afford.I wont be able to use it for a while though.I've tested it and found it too noisy for stealth reasons. Keep up the good work stay safe and thanx for the pics..The elite pro grow 100 has 3 x 80mm fans, one of the reasons I did not choose to get it (I had considered buying several of them). All the larger lights use 120mm fans which won't have such a high pitch. Good plan on changing the fans and good to hear it has made a difference. nothing like a bit of DIY. (Thumbs up) When it comes to temps I am loving LED, I definitely find i don't nee to water as often, which is time and labor saving. Having a light airy soil is best, so as to avoid water logging as well as well oxygenated roots. I am also using thermostatic supplemental heat to keep it up around 25oC, without it is around 22oC.I love to scrog and will do so with my next grow, especially as i think it suites LED (or in fact any grow). The reason why I did not with this grow is because this is a test grow to see what this LED is capable of (canopy penetration). This is also my first LED grow, I am liking it and have great hopes for harvest time. I have seen some great LED grows, when I was researching what light to buy, let hope I have the same results.I wish you all the best with your grow,I will be sure to follow your journal with great interest Looking good my friend, I am looking at investing in a bigger light with 3w LED, seen a few secondhand on Ebay around £100-150All the bestToaorThanks buddy you will love the extra light for sure, those are some nice prices.Had a look at your grow earlier and it is looking very nice, I will post a proper comment in your post. The diamond lenses are an advancement in LED tech which focuses the light so it can reach further down into the canopy.By removing the largest fan leaves which were blocking the light reaching further down I will be able to gauge how far down decent bud production can be with this light. Everything with this grow is learning something new because no matter how much research I did, only by using this LED can I know how effective it is.So far I am very happy. Beautiful plans overall man..really healthy too! Best of luck brother..happy to see you are liking your new LED too!! Hiya Smokey. Thanks for you comments , I decided to do 12/12 after reading Dusts 12/12 from seed. This is my first time trying it and will do it again in the future.AS for pheno type here is what wikipedia says - A phenotype (from Greek phainein, 'to show' + typos, 'type') is the composite of an organism's observable characteristics or traits, such as its morphology, development, biochemical or physiological properties, phenology, behavior, and products of behavior (such as a bird's nest). Phenotypes result from the expression of an organism's genes as well as the influence of environmental factors and the interactions between the two.Twilight is 100% Indica but does not have exceptionally wide leaves. The tallest girl has that lanky sativa look to her structure but lacks the thin long leaves. Where as the short girl is more stocky and look like an Indica. The middle girl is almost exactly in between the two other plants when it come to stucture.Originally all cannabis came out of china and was dispersed along trade routes such as the silk road etc. when it got to Afghanistan and Pakistan the plant was used more for recreation/medicine and was selctively breed to produce short stocky plants with a harder hitting stone. So it is not suprising that there are throw backs in the genetic code that sometime shows itself and produces a lankyer and more sparsley foliated plant.so it would seem I do have 3 phenotypes, the structure is relatively the same as far as form and branching, the leaves are the same but there are definitely structural height differences. Will they smoke differently? I don't Know, we will have to wait to find out.You sneaky devil. First you give us a scare and be away for weeks then you come back with girls like that! You been busy hehe. You never said how tall they are? Have they stopped stretched? Me sneaky, never lol stealthy yes. I could be standing behind you right now and you'd never know it. (Haha just messin with ya) Holiday time for me and as i read many Hunters had a messy old time of it during the festivities. I am and have been busy with work, been doing end of year account, bah humbug. All will return to normal after the end of January. At which point I can relax and put more time into updates etc. One reason I didn't start my World cup entry before now is I knew I wouldn't keep my reports together of the festive period, so that will have to wait until the Twilight has finished.Stretching has stopped, but whilst they were stretching they doubled in height. As for the height, they are as follows - Short girl = 60 CM, Middle girl = 68 CM & Tallest girl = 82 CMoh yeah man that's what we like to see When i was reading that they had stretched etc i was imaginating some big girls with poor budsite, but damn no!! you forgot to mention they had build all those bud site on the way tot he top They sure look good man hope the LED will be good enough to penetrate everywhere will see if that focus works Thanks for the news man have a good grow Glad you like what you see! Have I mentioned how many budsites there are hehe sorry i forgot to mention that in my post, but sometimes it's good to have a suprise, which put a smile on your face. Yeah surething I hope the light does me proud , soon we will see.I had a look at the roots too and they are good and healthy, I put this down to two things , one having a good soil light & airy and full of organic goodness, two using mychorrizae which seriously benefits the roots and their production. Here's a couple of pics of the roots plus a few pics of the tops too.RootsTopsPeace HuntersLams
