Hey guys, Welcome to my very first Journal here on strain hunters. :) I know I probably wont win as there are a lot of more experienced growers out there, some of you have already put me in awe of your grow logs. My main goal is to have fun competing in the first grow comp open to private growers (that i know of) and to gain some insight to how I'm doing as a grower.

As for my experience I have done a few very half-assed outdoor grows with the philosophy if it can't grow on its own it doesn't deserve to live. Due to some real life friends and influences from some online pals I game with, I decided to start really growing and went out and bought a light and took some of the plants i was growing outside (1 was already flowering) and moved em up into my grow room. I ushered them through adulthood and smoked them up. I would go into detail about the problems i had and the quality of the plant but as they were bag seeds and given they were outside planted in pots under trees in a mostly shade area and barley watered all through out the veg stage I'm just writing it all off as being bad genetics ^^

As of today my seeds are soaking and sitting in my wooden dresser with my socks lol. i used bottled water to soak them in, i figure thats the purest water i can provide as both my tap water and the rain water i got saved up in a drum have a ph of about 7 lol.

My setup at the moment consists of a 600w HPS light and a little fan to keep the branches swaying. My plan is to place them in peat pots filled with pure earthworm castings and set em up under a florescent light we use for starting all of our other crops. then when I feel its about time im going to transfer the plants to a 1 gallon smart pot and put in a bit of the roots organic potting mix I have (I'll up load pics of it when i bust into it or get to pulling the bags of soil out of the trash bags they are currently in) in addition to the earthworm castings. i have a little canna start ill use if i feel it necessary. once the time come for flowering I plan on using Guano and some fox farm tiger bloom. As of now i dont plan on using any super cropping or anything like that. my room is about 6 and 1/2 foot high so i can easily accommodate a 4 foot plant before i start worrying about it hitting the light.

I hope you guys enjoy my journal. Maybe it will be informative to some of you that are newer to growing. I'm just glad to start giving back.

Alright guys I'm back with another update already! this is the first time I have germinated seeds so i wasn't sure what to expect. Last night was a long night laden with nightmares of people trying to steal my germinating seeds lol. I woke up this morning and to my surprise one seed straight shot out a tap root!

After a quick tap and swirl they were all on the bottom. So I moved the one with the root into my ghetto starting dome, straight into the earthworm castings, and the other 4 are on a saucer on the heat mat. i put a little bottled water on the toilet paper and on my rooted seed and sealed em up and walked away ^^

Welp after much pacing like an expecting father, we have some sprouts! One thing I don't really like about the grow so far is how badly the earthworm castings are clumping up. It has caused me a bit of unease while waiting for these things to pop up. As of now i have 4 chutes and 1 still sleeping. This made me nervous with the medium so I kind of raked the top soil and then added some water which floated the seedling to the surface and I reburied it with the seed poking out.

I pulled the top off to vent out some of the water and I took them off the heat mat, and raised them closer to the light. I also Ranked them based on their growth so far that way I know which one is which. I also did this just to see if it stays like this or if one of the under dogs will overcome the odds and be the biggest budders. I'll start taking bets in a week or two xD.

the leaves on two were pinched together like there was some glue or something holding them up. i gave an ever slight pull on them to get them to come down like that and plant three had the seed casing still on so i gently plucked it it off.

These girls need to hurry up so i can start the free seeds that came with my King's Kush.

So I came home today from class and i found this. I'm really shocked that the leaves jumped up that much since my update yesterday, I thought it would be a good few days before I got to post another update ^^

Has anyone had gimped seedlings like the two up there? I hope they come out alright I'm a little nervous about this. (yeah I know my soil looks wet. for some reason I have the tendency to water before I take the pics :s but I never add much water at a time just a little splash right around the base of the plant.)

Love to feel your excitement. Growing weed seriousely for the first time is an incredible experience. 5 from 5 hey you do very very well , esp. for a newbie. Good choice those worm castings as starter soil. I bought a 5 litre pot of tat stuff too and liked it lots. Still take it easy with watering and next time mix it up with some perlite or pebbles, so it does not hard up when water drops on the surface. These seedlings look healthy enough to make it to the next stage. What pot size and what kind of medium do you want to use then ?I'll check in from time to time and wish you the best of luck.

Peace + Grow !

Yeah I panicked a bit when I noticed it started to clump up but once the seeds sprouted up I got over it, next time I am going to try some thing different for sure. As for the coming transplant I am going to use roots organic potting soil (http://www.aurorainnovations.org/soil.html I think this is it I'll get more info on it when I actually go to do the transplant the soil is bagged up in my grow room) and I am going to toss these babies in a 1 gallon smart pot then when they out grow that I'll go up to a 5 gallon smart pot.

Thanks to everyone that has responded. I got a lot of respect for you guys taking the time out to help a newbie ^^

Nice, man !!

I´m not a fan of Indicas, but the Tangerine flavor of some King´s Kush I had try in the past is delicious.

Cheers.

About us

Strain Hunters is a series of documentaries aimed at informing the general public about the quest for the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces originating in the poorest areas of the planet.

Cannabis, one of the most ancient plants known to man, used in every civilisation all over the world for medicinal and recreational purposes, is facing a very real threat of extinction. One day these plants could be helpful in developing better medications for the sick and the suffering. We feel it is our duty to preserve as many cannabis landraces in our genetic database, and by breeding them into other well-studied medicinal strains for the sole purpose of scientific research.
