Hi everyone, This is my first ever grow and it is inside an old poker machine cabinet. I was using 130W cfls one for veg and one for flower but after day 14 flower I took the top shelf out of the cabinet and put in a 400W HPS which I was given from a friend. For medium I have a 70% coco peat and 30% perlite mix and it is top fed. My EC is currently 1.2 now after giving her 1.6 and a few leaf tips went black and crusty so I backed it down, I keep the PH around the 5.8 mark. Im not sure how often or how much to feed her but I put in about 3-400mls a day?? The last pic was taken today after I removed the top shelf and put the 400W in. There is a high powered fan blowing onto the light and I put the exhaust fan there as the temp was around the 30 degree mark and after a few minutes of the fan being where it is now it got down to 24 degrees so I decided to leave it there. Im hoping changing the light wont freak her out??? I did tip her a few times and also tried the LST technique and I have already learnt a few lessons for next time!! Would putting a scrog type of thing over the top help me now? Or is it a little late for that. Any criticism or help would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys and gals! Ozi.

So I checked the calender and its now day 21 of flower (above post was off by a few days) and it seems she enjoyed the light change! PH 5.8 and EC is 1.2 given every 2nd feed on some much needed advice from Dust! (Thanks Mate!) She gets 500ml every 18hrs or so. Here are a few pics taken today. On one side I pulled some of the big leaves off that were shading the flowers to see if there will be a difference from one side to the other. This is a learning curve for me so thought I would try that and see what happens. Any comments would be much appreciated! Cheers Ozi

WOW! Thanks very much International Green! That's a great comment for me to read!! Especially coming from you!! :imsohappy: It most definitely is my very first grow! I did read so much information on the internet. And I did have a friend who lived on the other side of the country give me some help and we had many phone calls before he past away. He was my guru, and after reading your comment, i'm sure he would be happy with my effort so far. When I would visit him every month or so he would have the GHS GWS and WW lined up there for me as he knew it would help with my pain, He was a great friend. :( And this is where I got all my seeds from. I have certainly learned a few things for next time though! My next grow is going to be a scrog, with two Kerala X Skunk in the same cabinet, They are just sprouting a tap root now so hopefully my timing will work out and I can move them into this cabinet in about 6 weeks when this little lady is done, they will be under a 130W CFL till then. I have never tried that strain so I am looking forward to seeing how it goes with some pain relief and not only that, I enjoy getting high! Thanks again for your kind words! I'm a very happy little camper at the moment!!:dancing:

Awesome boss! You should be a very happy camper :) Soon you'll have to start getting in the harvest state of mind :)

You got a place to dry the buds? Have you familiarized yourself with the process of harvest? Trimming will be a delite your first few times lol, but the bigger the harvest, the more of a pain in the ass trimming makes haha! But good luck brother! You passed the halfway point of 1st grow with much success :D

Hi I.G, im still very happy yourself and Dust think im doing well with the little lady! Its very good to hear I am not destroying one of the earths finest gifts. Havn‘t looked into it too much just yet, but the plan so far is. Cut her at the base, hang her upside down in a dark room for a week, take off and trim the nuggets, put in a air tight glass jar and put back in the dark for a few weeks? (the dark area I will be using is 20C currently). I also need to read up on the last two weeks of flower to see what I am going to do there aswell. But I have a few weeks to get up too speed on that, for now im going to up the EC slowly and give it to her every 2nd feed as suggested by Dust. Thanks agin. Cheers Ozi

So I have a bit of spare time so I thought id do a quick update. Its day 24 of flower and she is starting to get stinky. I also have access to a worm farm although im not really sure what to do with the castings or the juice. I have added a couple of pics. The castings are very moist. Do I add some to the top of my soil? And do I need to dilute the juice? I have had a long look around the internet but all of the answers I found conflict with each other if anyone has used or know of anyone who has used them can they please help me out. Cheers Ozi.

Hey Ozi, you're gonna always find conflicting info on the internet lol!

But I've learned that the "juice" or "worm tea" or "leechate" needs to be diluted before you use it bcuz it's very nutritious and can go a long way with just a little :D

However, It shouldn't be diluted bcuz you think you can water it down, bcuz you can't dilute microorganisms..The water just acts as a carrier of those microbes.

But it's in a form thats readily available to plants and should not burn if you chose to use it str8 up. It's just so good that you can dilute it and apparently it works just as well, so why not make more of the "worm tea"?!

And those casting look really moist! Don't think they should look that moist! Are you watering the worm farm or something?

With those casting you can make a worm tea or you can top dress them around your plants safely at up to like an inch layer :D

They're pretty much readily available organic N. Other than vermicompost, a lot of organic gardeners will prob say that worm casting are the best organic fert :D

Thanks again I.G! Its not my worm farm but I don't think they are watering it down. I brought home just over 250ml of the juice and I can have as much as I want of the castings. Tomorrow I will go back over and grab a bag of the castings and put them on as you suggested. I really do appreciate your help mate, Its always nice to get help from guys with lots of knowledge on the subject! :aikido:

Hello again I.G, That's good to hear and its really awesome to have your help and to be a part of grow team Ozi  haha. I decided to leave the castings as they are super wet and used 20ml of juice to 400ml of water. I will use normal water with a PH of 5.8 next feed then go back to the juice?? Is there a need to use my other nutrients now? Man, I would be so lost without your advice ahahaha. Cheers again Ozi

Hey brother :D

Your welcome! Anything I can help with I will when I have a moment!

Nice with diluting the worm tea, and nice with leaving the castings. They look REALLY wet if you ask me too.

But basically your plant looks GREAT brother! If I were you, I'd just keep doing what I've been doing :D

Once you make it to the half way point of flower, I've you still got a descent amount of foliage, IMO(in my opinion) the plant is good to go :)

There's nothing you can do for it in the last few weeks to make a difference I've read :) Gotta keep her happy the whole time, which you've done!

Hey guys, Quick update, Its the start of week 5 at 12/12 and things are starting to fill up. Still have some nute burn going on, But I have only been feeding her a mixture of 1 part worm juice to 20 parts water, ph=5.8 unless my meter is playing up! Any other ideas what might be going on? I will give her a few days without any worm tea thrown in to the water and hopefully she gets better. Some of the white hairs are turning browny orange type of colour. :) Anyways have a look at the pics and as always your advice is greatly appreciated!! Thanks very much, Ozi

Nice :) And prob a def. rather than nute burn right now if the only thing you've been using is the worm tea.

Looks good tho! The leaves should never be nice a perfect in the end. If so, you'll end up smoking lots of nutrients or minerals.

In organics, the plant's flush themselves...So they start dying off essentially as soon as you switch to 12/12

Yeh mate I think it was my PH meter, Calibrated it with my pool PH kit and im hoping it wont stuff up again! Was reading lower then it was supposed to be. Its day 33 of flower and I have taken her out for the day as its a lovely and sunny 23c here. I think things are going well but then again its my first time but I was not expecting so many buds to be growing and will probably double my expectations of yield from her. Here are a few pics taken today and the little one is the Kerala X Krush I was given. Don't know too much about her but I am keen to see how she goes! She will be under the 130W light for another 6weeks or so then she will spend the full summer outside. :spiteful: I have put in a pic of the light aswell. She will be LST'd and tipped just like this one was but I think she will get quite large getting the full summer outside, so need to keep her low and long. The seed was germinated in a shot glass of water in the dark then after a 4 days the tap root was 5mm, then she went into a pre soaked rock wool cube and back in the dark for 2 days and a few days later here she is. Any comments as always are much appreciated. Take care Ozi.

Hi my friend,

firstly, let me say I am impressed. You are doing an amazing job.

Watch your watering - it is a common mistake to water too much.

first signs are lower leaves discoloring, or turning yellow. This can be confusing as this also happens with nitrogen def.

feel proud, my friend, you are doing an excellent job.

happy harvest, mate,

john

Hi John, Thanks very much for the kind words, Feels like im 5years old just got another gold star at school, and nobody else did today! I have actually surprised myself to be honest! I feed her about 500mls every 18hrs or so. I just wait till the top soil is dry. My PH meter was reading wrong and she was getting her drink at around the 7-7.5 PH mark, It was either that or she didn't like the worm juice. Being new to this im not sure. Thanks for your advice mate, Best wishes with your current grow! Ozi

Hi everyone, So its the start of week 6 flower at 12/12. 400W HPS. She has been spending the days outside for most of the week as it has been beautiful sunny days at around the 23C mark, Even managed a day at 29C for the second last day of winter! I apologise for the photos as I made a massive mistake at the start of the week by not testing the water after adding the worm tea! It brought the PH up and around the 8 mark and I fed her this a few times and she is not looking good at all. I flushed her two days ago and she will only get water at a PH of 6 from now until the end. Can she recover from this? Or do I cut my losses and pull her out :( ?? Big shout out to Flowers To The People who I had the pleasure of meeting on the weekend. His Liberty Haze and Pineapple Chunk is some of the most enjoyable smoke I have ever had. Looking forward to trying his Crème Caramel tonight. Anyway guys my sincere apologies for what you are about to see in the pictures, It is a bit of a tragedy im afraid. And im at a loss of what I should do from here. How much will this effect the buds?? Comments and any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated as always. Cheers ozi.

8 is REALLY high for a soil ph!

For future ref you can get the pH down with elemental Sulfur or Peat.

But you sure it's not the meter?

And I wouldn't chop just yet if I were in your shoes...

As long as you see yellowish pistils flying out of the calyxes on the colas, they're growing :)

Maybe once all your bud leaves have died??

If you think you can go another two weeks without doing anything, I would just continue with plain water and harvest after 8wk flower :D

Hi Mr G, Thanks again for stopping by. My meter was playing up so I bought a PH test kit instead. I was getting the PH to the 5.8 then adding the worm tea and feeding her without checking the PH again, And before I realised what a rookie I was being it was too late. Most of the leaf tips broke off as they were black and crispy. I feel terrible and I want to kick myself in the groin 10 times as she has become like a member of the family over the last 2months and I have done my best to care for her, She even has a name, Mary (of course) and now she seems sad and a little ugly. So I should keep with the original plan and harvest at the end of week 8?? Because in 2 weeks it will be the start of week 8? Your help is very much appreciated mate, hence the reason I joined this forum instead of others, Everyone is friendly and there is no rude, ignorant or condescending remarks, And I love the fact that you guys that have been doing this extremely well for many seasons with large set-ups don't mind helping out a little grower like me with my tiny set-up. Cheers Ozi
