he did wonderful things with breeding and crossing hundreds of different food plants that we still use today and he did alot in that sense, but im afraid he was no writer or the maker of any new scientific methods the methods he used was created by others before him. he was rich and famous breeder but not a big contributor to science. Money, friends in high places and hype did a lot 100 years ago like it does today...

he got help from other botanist and professional writers also. most of the writing in hes 12 volume book series is done by  George Hull  and atleast 5 other authors that were hired by the publishing company, even tho books carry hes name he didnt make them (just like music biz today hehe).

he was good at producing new crop varietys that made him very rich as he sold the growing rights at high prices(wtf is that? he was like monsanto) ,  but the scientific methods of the era he used was done by other people like gregor mendel that lived  before him, or george hull that actually wrote most of the burbanks books and many other scientist of the era

the fact he didnt keep records  for us to see later(keeping records of the breeding/results/facts and work in general)  means that the work and books doesnt qualify as science, it confirms he was not in to the plant study but in to selling patents at high price

he held 16 plant patents while he was alive

he and hes friends including the evil scientist mr.thomas edison were the ones who started the whole plant patenting idea and brought it further after burbank had developed alot of amazing varietys...  that is quite sickening and inhumane to me so i find it hard to respect the man who made fast money in the name of science and yet didnt leave us any science to look at later on...
