Is 430watts enough?

The reason I mentioned it for is that the ballast with be, in all probability, a HPS ballast, with a conversion bulb. This means that if later you want to used a HPS bulb in the ballast your be will able to, but check first.

I prefer digital ballasts, and they do save a lttle on the power, about $100 per cycle, per ballast.

If you wish to see the difference in quality of the light between magnetic ballasts and digital, just have a look through a digital camera. You will find the the light is continuous with the digital, whereas with an older magnetic ballast the light flickers.

If you are being given the light by a friend, then do not forget to buy a new bulb, as they only last for 12 months maximum, and after that lose there intensity, and are unsatisfactory for growing plants, though the bulb will still strike up.
