couple questions when it comes to outdoor

Hey guys just a couple questions about some Diamond Girl seeds I planted monday

1- When it comes to animals and plants at what stages are the plants most susceptible?

ex) Do animals like to eat week old plants flowering plants or do they just like eating plants at any stage

2- Would a combination of composted sheep manure and peat moss be ok for a growing medium?

3- Has anybody grown or know much about the strain because all of the information i've read about it has been the same

(I geuss i'm wondering if you've had experience with growing it what worked/didn't work for you)

4- How cold can it get before a plant suffers negative consequences

( I've heard below 40 degrees farenheit, i've heard it doesn't matter unless hit by frost.... theres a lot of different answers so i was wondering your opinions)

-Thanks

well won't be able to help you on that one, except maybe on the old flowering plant, i think the animals will eat more the leaves than the buds, but i haven't specially heard of case of animal eating a finishing plant ^^ maybe you'll be my first one :)

As for the diamond girl i haven't test her yet but definitly on my indica list too! So james bond girl like name can only be good :D

Good luck

hello Dave

Hope i can shed some light on your problems, this time of year the animals are grazing on salady things as theres not much fruit n nut about ! Mice and rabbits with eat shorter plants and big plants so pick a spot with lots of birds of prey about . The sheep manure should be 6 months old atleast and use it for your final transplant and mix it up well. Your plants should be ok till the 1st frost in sept or oct but dont know about the humidity in your area so sorry i cant help you on that one or the diamond girl info.

Good luck and just go for it - the mistakes you make can be rectified next year - its all about learning your spot as well as your strains.

awesome thanks guys this was helpful info!

i was wondering if spreading around some dog hair would be a good idea mainly for small critters? as well as using fishing line for the big animals

Yes anything that strongly smell dog or human odors is good, i put around my plant lots of big pieces of wood and some spiky leaves to block the access, often animals don't like obstacles and will pass there way, I've put some of my dogs poo around too ;)

Fish line is a good idea too i guess, maybe something more visible would be efficient too to "scare" them

Good luck man ;)

hi!

1st. They do not like it.... but they eat it... In case they have something else as well, they just taste it... :D You better keep them away, with human hair (go to a barber and get the hair he had cut that day, do not use your own!!!) in small nets around the spot. Animals hate human and dog smells. We are their enemies for long time! U can also buy hormon lke odours, that u must appy on a piece of clothes and that also keep them away.

2nd. 50 cm is the MIN. as Toke mentioned. Also he grabbed the point of ph. Peat moss is usually around ph 4, so watch out, do not give more than 10-15 %! Manure is good, but mix it carefully. U also can add bird manure or horse. Add some perlite as well, to make it nice and light. Usually plant developement stops over 35 and under 10 C. This doesn't mean that a plant could not take 2-3 colder nights (like 5 C ), and for example if u watch the forecast and see that maybe 1st to3rd oct is shit, but there will be an other 7-10 days nice weather after, you better let her go, and she will be allright. Maybe she turns purple, but this does not affect the final products.

  • 3 weeks later...

Quick little update if you guys are interested,

2 of the five planted are looking pretty healthy although they have been growing slowly there only about 10 cm tall and they were planted from germinated seeds about 25 days ago.

2 are looking poor, for one of them the stem right under the cotyledons looks like it has dried out or something so now its flopped over. The other one got an entire leaf eaten and its a small plant so thats no good and it was also flopped over. She is in my house right now so I can hopefully revive her.

I found the last one dead and only about 1 cm long.

I'm not very disappointed tho because they have had 0 attention for 25 days...unfortunately...... but the good thing is I can help them now and give them attention just about everyday multiple times a day until harvest :imsohappy: !!!

If you guys have any suggestions to help with bugs let me know and if you guys know how to help the plant who's stem is drying out please let me know.

Il be able to take pics tomorrow hopefully so I can get your diagnosis and input on there problems and how they look and how I can best help them

thanks fellas

Take good care of her maybe she'll give it back ;)

Would be nice to have some little plant porn for our eyes :rabbi:

Have a good grow

The two unhealthy ones are still alive and green so I'm still going to keep a close eye on them and hopefully with tender love and care they will be ok

cool man thanks for the update :)

Too bad about the slug or bug or snail ^^ I put around my plants a big salt line and some Wood Ash to keep the snail and slug away, for the bugs you can try some things with garlic and tobaco juice, or anything else there are lots of products if you want ;)

Keep the girls growing, and the pics coming ;)

Wow. Tons of good info from all!!

I grow outdoor in a pretty mountainous climate with huge flux in day and night temps and plenty of deer and elk trying to snatch my crop.

I guess to put in my 2 cents i would say:

1- I haven't had too much problem with predators on the crops. Deer and other game prefer their local forage but i have had a few years in droughts when animals have been drawn by the "nice green" patch, but for the most part have sampled and left. Guess they dont have the taste for the herbage that we all share  I do bring my dogs with me to the garden often and they do a pretty damn good job of keep the game away and the best part is their scent stays for days and helps ward off the thieves

2- Peat moss good, manure good but like mentions before keep it in the bottom and older more decomposed it the best. If using fresh manure, with i do, i use it mostly to make teas for my ladies! They love it!!!! My personal composition is shovel of sheep, shovel of rabbit, shovel cow, and a shovel of silt mud from our local stream bed. I put it all in a pillow case, zip tie it and throw it in a 50 gal drum with an aerator to mix the batch. YUM YUM!!

3- Never had the pleasure of meeting the lady but would love an introduction.

4- As for the climate of your outdoor location......there is soo soo much to say about organic outdoor. First there is no better light then that provided by our mother!! As for the temp changes it all depends on the DNA. I know people are gonna cringe but pollinate a few of her buds and plant those seeds the next year and i swear you will have a plant that handles your climate better. As for this year, until the season gets a little further down the road and the temps stabilize, simply "tent" your plants about an hour before dark with a clear pvc plastic and it will help hold the temp through the nights, but be careful as fall comes and harvest nears. You will feel the need to tent your babies again to protect from the threat of frost but you could just be trapping moisture and ruining your :fie: gold!!! If you do tent in the bud be sure to have ample air flow to the girls and around ground!

Remember the unique climate you grow in, the medium you chose, and the goodness you choose to feed your girls will give them there flavor and "style"! Also ive found i get some great colors in my buds as the temp change!!!

Good luck in your grow brother and Jah blessings!!!

I was unable to cover them up but hey they're still alive. I'm wondering if their growth rate is too slow tho, I was definitely thinking of pollinating some to get some seeds for next year but I have feminized seeds so I don't know if i will be able to get any seeds

I was thinking of putting some salt around for the snails but i would worry about that

A) attracting deer and

B) messing up the growing conditions.

Im gona try to get some garlic juice for the leaves or some sort of deterrent.

Tomorrow will be my last time seeing them for about three days but I'm sure they will be good unless nute burn occurs.

I think there could be a small amount on some of the leaves but not enough to worry about...it could be a lot of things and it rained today so they might have gotten a little bit of a flushing seeing as the soil was already fairly moist.

Im just confused about the slow growth all I want is at least one of the plants to give me a nice harvest

It could when they are really young, i had a batch of outdoor girls cutted in 2 by ants at about the same stage as those pictures. lots of things can eat our little babies unfortunatly :( But it goes better when they are older and stronger they survive it at least ;)

ants are bitches, but if u have some time till harvest, u can use BI 58 or Vertimec (both are pretty strong stuff, be carefull, but they are killers against most bugs, in most form, so even the eggs of the ants will be sterilized), but if u have less than 3 weeks left to chop, you only apply on the ground around!

Well this sucks! :fie: Just as i was saying i didnt get to many predators......i get raided by a few million grasshoppers!!! Problem seems to be solved, i just used a surface bug and grasshopper repellent around my greenhouse and its seemed to drive them away. I will let ya'll know if it solves the plague! My poor little ladies all lost some pretty heavy foliage for being only 2 weeks old but i KNOW they will still amazing us all!!!
