So Here we go. I just upgraded my indoor grow up until a week or so ago I was just vegging on my porch or using the HPS if nothing was in flower. I just installed 432w HOT5 fixture. This addition has forced me to rethink my ventilation scheme.

The Veg Room:

Dimensions: 4x4x7feet

Intake: passive (gonna add 3x12 venti in floor today)

Exhaust: passive (6" duct to flower room)

Circulation: 1 oscillator 1 fixed fan

Light: 432w HOT5

The Flower Room:

Dimentions: 4x6x7

Intake: passive (4 inch duct through exterior wall)

Exaust: 250cfm air cooled hood ducted into house

Circulation: 1 fixed ocillator

Light: 1kw HPS

Medium

Mostly Organic Soil

So theres obviously some room for improvement here. I'm going to be modifying a downdraft stove to add another 500cfms to my ventilation system, I just have to decide where in the line it would serve best. I'm also thinking of expanding my flower intake but im not `sure how large i need/can go without disrupting airflow from the veg side.

Strains:

Hash Passion (strong lemon taste/smell)

Hash Passion X Sensi Star F1C1 Indica (grape)

Hash Passion x Sensi Star F1C1 Sativa (earth)

Hash Passion X Sensi Star F1 TBD

Wubble (test run. no smell yet)

The F1 clones are from this years outdoor testers. I want to see how they do indoors. Though I don't think the sativa pheno will make the cut...its outdoor counterpart is still in the ground 80 days in. super slow grower, even in veg. Haven't smoked her yet. The hash passion is of course an original parent from seed i keep around so i can back-cross later. The wubble is some tester stuff from another forum(not journaling it there though) so far its a super N hog but dosent really grow as much as i think it should.

5. the origional hash passion (1.5yrs old) im attempting to reveg for the 2nd time (i got healthy backup clones)

So I went ahead and made a new intake for the veg side and dropped my temp 20 degrees. I bought a nive vent cover for it but it restricted airflow too much so i stapled metal screen (taken from vent) over the hole for now. ill add that vent plate when i move just to mess with the contractors. I closed off the original intake as it was just a fan jammed in a heater vent. worked fine in the summer...not so much now that its heater season. apparently that fan got knocked off balance the blade got stuck and burned out the motor so Im a fan down now. I stole a booster fan from flower and made my veg exhaust to flower active. I bought a MERV 6 filter to fit on it and found out the hard way i need to install that stove blower to get it to work. If both rooms were on their own air supply I wouldn't worry about the filter at all but we don't want them sharing diseases or pests that may come up in the future.

installing a vent is pretty straight forward but ill summarize it for the less inclined.

you need marking tools

tool(s) to cut through a wall or floor (i used a knife a drill and a jigsaw)

a way to locate wall studs or floor joists

a screwdriver

First I determined where i could put it by locating the floor joists (i just stomped around but a stud finder would work too). then I traced the outline of the vent on the floor. Since my floor is linoleum I cut out that layer with a knife so it wouldn't jam up drill/saw blades/bits. then I measured the lip on the vent to accommodate screws and laid that out on the floor. drill starter holes and go to town with the jigsaw. after that hole is cut make sure the airway is clear of insulation or other debris, secure the vent and there you go. minty fresh intake.

So I added the stove blower last night. hung from a rafter with acoustic bolts (headless lag bolts with a flattened end) a chain and some nails. If I turn the fan on full speed the walls suck in about a foot so I do believe another intake is in order ;) According to "growbuddy" I have 4 days left to get the flower room in ship shape. I only have half the clones i would need to fill out the flower room in 3 gal pots so i might pot them up to 5 gal. grow bags and veg untill the end of week 5 or 6

Pics:

1. an "acoustic" bolt with chain

2. I wanted to keep wiring simple so i just left everything in place. that part would normally pop up from a counter top. Once i do finally take it apart ill have a nifty robot arm to find a use for :)

3.Over all ducting scheme

4. the fan

I decided to go ahead and pot up to the 5 gal size on 4 of the Indica phenotypes. I kept one for a mother. I moved them into the flower chamber on 14 hrs of light. I figure Ill give the plants a week to recover and adjust to the new spectrum before going 12/12.

The two sativa phenos are pissing me off. I dont like the growth rate or pattern and I most of the mom to bud rot and shes still drying so i dont know about quality of smoke on her. If the bud sucks though those sativa phenos might not make it through veg.

I also made up a "transitional" "fertilizer" so im intrested to see if this makes a difference on flower.

To 2 gal of water:

  • 4TBS b-1/yucca extract
  • 1TBS wood ash
  • 2Tsp molassas
  • 1/4c crushed super trippel phosphate
  • 2Tsp microblast from earth juice

One of my seedlings died :( rot tip was all black. The large Hash passion decided to give up as well. But I do have clones of her on deck After 2 heavy harvests, bonsai training and many many clones That plant will be missed. I was really hoping she would make it though...

Today is Day one of 12/12 lights for our friends in the 5 gallon grow-bags. I did some formative pruning on em yesterday. I cleaned up the lower 3rd of the plants, removed unwanted leaders and made clones from them. I might prune again at the end of stretch if its needed.

My transitional feeding seems to have helped out they restarted growth about 3 days faster than normal so thats awesome.

The Sativa pheno is just now catching up to the indica pheno in terms of growth; The rootball should be solid enough to transplant into a grow bag by next week. I pruned them as well but am on the fence about cloning them. I havent gotten to sample the mother yet so im not sure if it deserves continued floor space. Ill keep the cuts in the fridge just in case...

My clones are acting like theyre throwing roots. They droop a bit right before they root. raised thier RH a couple points.

Im having trouble keeping my photos in correct order so bear with me here.

blue tinged pics = veg cab

yellow tinged = flower (the forked plant is wubble)

"normal" color = formative pruning before and after (reverse order)

I was a bit harsh on those normalcolored pruning shots ut you can see how bushy they got (thats the sativa pheno btw). plus 2 of them are moms I need to keep small for now. ;)

Week 2 Day 6 Flower:

The gals are chuggin' along nicely. Though there is some unexplained leaf curl. They started to set flowers as well. Looks like this is gonna be good. I chose to go with 0-6-4 grand finale for my flower nutes. Girls received their first feeding of that 4 days ago and got a foliar of calcium and micro blast.

damn those girls have grown a lot :)

And they look good and have a nice shape, they just maybe look a little overfed to me, very lightly, and might cause your curling leaves but not sure bout the curving, but for sure i'd say give them one or 2 watering with only hard water or a good flush and hard water for the next watering, and they will only love it when you go back to nutes ;)

Thanks for the news everyhting seems to be going ok ;)

Have a good grow
