Guest superbluehaze
the main thing with an speed controller is to never start the fan up unattended on the low speed.the fan can stall and over heat;other than that it should be fine.take care, john

greystoke
I went thru two 8in max canfans(At the time it was hooked up to two 1000w hps) before I found out that not all fans are designed to be variably controlled; yes the speed controller will control the fan's speed but its the design of the bearing or bearings in the fan that will determine if it will over heat and shut off til it cools off or burns out. At lower speeds it can be risky as not as much air flows over the moving parts so the heat isn't removed as well. Or you could be fine with a controller, I guess some people have all the luck.. I was told this info on the phone from the fan company tech. I use an 8in vortex fan now its designed to be variably controlled, I hope you get yours dialed in.
