Man I just keep lookin at those healthy, green plants of yours and my jaw drops every time :)

Love the pics, keep um coming my man...

Dust, how much defoliation would you do? Would you take any fan leaves off? Just curious, I've had plants before that needed that, but I wasn't sure which ones to pluck, so I left her alone...

yeah when i do it myself, so i'm not saying it's a rule for defoliation it's only the way i do it, i first pluck off all the fan leaves taking birth on the main stem, then i take every secondary stem and do the same, pluck off every fan leaf that is born on the stem, not the one on the buds, and i only keep the Fan leaves on the 3 last level on each branches (main stem an secondary branches) most of the time and it worked just fine ;)

But i understand that some strain very sensitiv could not like it, so far i had no problem with it ^^

So I just spent the last 3 hours researching defoliating. It seems that the majority of the old growers freak out when someone mentions taking any leaves. From what I've read tonight and over the years it seems that the buds use the leaves for energy and by cutting them it freaks out the plant. On the other hand, case can be made that because we now grow inside and give them all their nutrients as they grow then it should be okay with minimal repurcussions to the plants because they are not totally dependent on just getting food from the leaves. I did a heavy feeding tonight and took off some of the leaves that were on the bottom and were old. Tomorrow I will do an experiment. I think tomorrow I will take one of them and defoliate like Dust has mentioned. Dust, do you think this will be okay at around 30 days into flower? Thanks

To early in 30 days in flower. If u wanna test do just one of them and u will see a difference. I'll take off fan leaves after 7th week of flowering, And I leave main cola fan leaves 3/4 set from top. I trimm only middle one and max 3/4 set. maybe 1 set in 3 days. Then after cut off i give my plants 1TBS of molasses for sugar. That me :-)

Good Luck!

Peace

yeah i think a little later too. I know most growers flp when they hear defoliation, but only way to be sure is to try by yourself and make your own opinion on weither your girl liked it or no ;)

I personally do it, once the stretch has stopped, budsite development too, and when the bud stop growing in height but start getting really wider, so yeah around week 5 6 of flowering depends on the strains ;)

Thanks for the advice everyone. This is the current state of how they are now. Perhaps I just leave them this way until harvest with the occassional fan leaf removal when its blocking a good potential sight. Here is what it currently looks like on the lower parts. I didn't mess with anything other than that.

Actually they look very nice and tidy... Good job. I normally do this to my grows too. But when I grow a new strain, I like to let it be and see what she does. If she needs any trimming, then I do it on the next run. I just like to see um all natural on the first run :)

Keep up the good work my friend...

hi my friend,

Your plants are looking great. My plants are still showing the leaf deformity. I do not think your plants will stretch much more by the look of things.

The pruning is also spot on.

I am from the old school, and believe that plants need their leaves to produce food; but the way it is described above seems fine - from the 7th week.

Having said that I do remove some leaves, especially late in flowering.

take care,

john

I am just amazed at how many bud sites these girls are throwing. And man am I one glad person. The girls are not only getting top dense but there are lots of sites buried in the foliage. I turn them 1/4 everyday to try to even it out. This has been a very fun grow thanks to the forum, it takes the anxiety down quite a bit when you know you can ask an expert and there are always a few of you around. Anyone recommend a Landrace Indica for a short grow?
