WARNING CAUTION

Yesterday I was reading something about carbon filters, and came to a part of the reading saying

Which, when it comes in charcoal combustion produces carbon monoxide (CO)is lethal.

WARNING CAUTION.

Be careful when placing the filter inside makes it look externally, do not place very closeto hot lamps, and near electricity be careful.

Toxicity

Carbon monoxide poisoning is the most common type of fatal air poisoning in many countries.Carbon monoxide is colourless, odorless, and tasteless, but highly toxic. It combines with hemoglobinto produce carboxyhemoglobin, which is ineffective for delivering oxygen to bodily tissues. Concentrations as low as 667 ppm may cause up to 50% of the body's hemoglobin to convert to carboxyhemoglobin. A level of 50% carboxyhemoglobin may result in seizure, coma, and fatality. In the United States, the OSHA limits long-term workplace exposure levels above 50 ppm. Within short time scales, carbon monoxide absorption is cumulative, since the half-life is about 5 h in fresh air (see main article).

The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may resemble other types of poisonings and infections, including symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, and a feeling of weakness. Affected families often believe they are victims of food poisoning. Infants may be irritable and feed poorly. Neurological signs include confusion, disorientation, visual disturbance, syncope and seizures.

Some descriptions of carbon monoxide poisoning include retinal hemorrhages, and an abnormal cherry-red blood hue.] In most clinical diagnoses these signs are seldom noticed. One difficulty with the usefulness of this the effect is that carbon monoxide merely corrects what would otherwise be an unhealthy appearance, since the chief effect of removing deoxygenated hemoglobin is to make an asphyxiated person appear more normal, or a dead person appear more life-like, similar to the effect of red colorants in embalming fluid. The "false" or unphysiologic red-coloring effect in anoxic CO-poisoned tissue is related to the meat-coloring commercial use of carbon monoxide, discussed below.

Carbon monoxide binds to other molecules such as myoglobin and mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase. Exposures to carbon monoxide may cause significant damage to the heart and central nervous system, especially to the globus pallidus, often with long-term sequelae. Carbon monoxide may have severe adverse effects on the fetus of a pregnant woman.

Good to share this always good to remember, a room or house always needs a good ventilation, it's like a grow tent, but with yourself growing in it instead of plants ^^

THanks for the sharing man ;)

Combustion -

1. The process of burning something: "the combustion of fossil fuels".

2. Rapid chemical combination of a substance with oxygen, producing heat and light.

So what i understand is, if the carbon in your filter burns (combusts), It will produce CO (Carbon Monoxide).

In which case it is good to keep your filter away from ignition sources - ie Lights and Electricty.

CO (Carbon Monoxide) is odorless, so it will not be able to be smelled coming from your filter.

Any combustion of fossil fuels will create CO (Carbon Monoxide), things such as Motor cars, Gas central heating etc.

Where any combustion is used in a house/confined space adequate ventilation is needed.

As far as Plants are concerned they absorb CO2 (carbon Dioxide) and give out oxygen, so air from the filter is of no danger.

It is also true to say that plants do to some extent take in oxygen and give out Carbon Dioxide, but to a lesser extent, this often happens in the dark period but not to the point of being hazrdous to health.

As a rule air in a grow room/space should be exchanged atleast 3 time the rooms capcity a minute, using fresh air, there will always be plenty of oxygen for breathing.

Peace

Lams

carbon monoixed is formed when carbon oxidate and there is not enough oxygen in the air to make carbon dioxide -.- thats why people run there carbon filter 24/7 not just because of smell.

fresh air in with a intake fan helps a bundle

plus if you want to be safe and not scared to take a risk you can always put a lighter that burns with a yellow flame on the extractor vent and see what colour the flame is if its blue its carbon monoxide if it stays yellow dont worry its oxgen. when carbon monoxide burns it burns with a blue flame.

obviously dont leave your lighter perminatly on just a quick test

i think it is very hard to get your carbon to burn. It has to heat up very hot in order to do that. I dont think we have to worry if you have afilter.

Carbon needs a very very hot heat source to burn from what I know.

Does just heating it up cause carbonmonoxide?
